Do a clean boot, and then restart the computer.
Press Windows key + R
Type: MSCONFIG
- Press enter on your keyboard
- On the general tab, click Selective startup.
- Under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
- Click the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.
- Click OK.
- When you are prompted, click on restart.
- After the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

I need help here. I did something really stupid recently and I see it now. I installed a program on my laptop without even checking if it is compatible with windows vista. It installed fine, but now when I try to uninstall it, I get a message that says "Image transfer can not be installed in the current version of windows". The error, "another installation is in progress and must be completed first" can be attributed to the InProgress key found in the registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgressChange the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk.
I suggest that first make a backup of the registry or a system restore point. Then go to control panel, administrative tools, Services. Do scroll down and find the Windows Installer service, and set the start at the stop State. Delete the registry key to the location above.
Now, you shouldn't get the installation in the progress message when you try to uninstall programs.
