Hi, this may be a corrupted shortcut icon. The best way to cope is to click with the right button on the icon on the desktop > remove. Now right click on Mozilla Firefox in all programs/applications > Send to > desktop (create shortcut). You should now have a clean shortcut on your desktop.
If this does not help, you can try these free programs to search for malicious software that work with your existing anti-virus software:
- Microsoft safety scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- Anti-Rootkit utility - TDSSKiller
- AdwCleaner (for more information, see this other AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP, if you do not already have one. Windows 8 already has integrated antivirus.
More information can be found in the article troubleshooting Firefox problems caused by malware .
Note that not all programs removal allows to detect all malware, you may need to run multiple or all of them.

I forgot to do something different on my computer today, but everytime I open Firefox I get this screen Ask not my default screen that should be there. I'm supposed to have www.comcast.net as my screen not repaid.
Hello, this looks like a problem maybe caused by adware on your pc.
Please go to firefox > addons > extensions and remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, the things that you have not installed intentionally, I don't know what purpose they serve, etc.).
also go to Control Panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
Finally, run a full scan of your system with security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.Remove a toolbar that has supported your Firefox or the homepage search

I can provide a screenshot to help illustrate my problem. Every page I load has many boxes ad embedded in the page "ads to save". Does anyone else have this problem? Is it something that firefox added to their browser or do I have a malware problem? (I don't see any option to view a screenshot of the problem, as is indicated on the home page of Community aid. Maybe I'll have that option once my question is posted.)
Hi franklr, many sites use Flash for the actual content, but also ads. It is difficult to use a large part of the web, if you have the plugin Shockwave Flash off.
In case there is an extension, have you also checked this list:
Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category

I recently hooked another monitor to my laptop, that was when the problem occurred, but even after restarting Firefox * and * my computer, it did not always work. By collapse, I mean when you press F11, the open tabs and the address bar appear smaller, and then they slide up until what you don't see it (unless you mouse over). Please help me solve this =)
Thank you!
You can right click on the tab bar or the Navigation bar mode full screen (F11) and make sure that "Hide toolbar" is enabled.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).
- Do NOT click on the reset button on the start safe mode window or make changes.

The "Better Privacy" help page opens in a tab separated everytime I open Firefox. I close, but he comes back, usually when I go to another site (by clicking on a link or by using a bookmark) and at intervals apparently at random so that I am browsing.
chrome://bprivacy/content/BetterPrivacy.html
I'm sure this isn't malware, but it drives me crazy. Is there no way to block this annoyance?
I don't want to disable the best privacy, but I am often tempted to do.
I use Ubuntu (Linux) 12.04, which comes with Firefox 18.0.2.
You are welcome

Mozilla seems to control access to the home page. I try by dragging the symbol from yahoo but it does not move and I'm stuck with Mozilla as homepage.
Hello
It seems to be a problem with a missing file or a matter of settings with Mozilla Firefox. I suggest you to contact the Mozilla support for assistance.
Support Mozilla Firefox: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/home
Hope the information is useful.

Edit: The problem is the parameter "Use hardware acceleration where possible", unchecking it allows it to function in the browser. Does this mean that my video card is going wrong?
I have a bug in generating a tilemap html5 canvas games. I can generate maps 500 x 500 (250 k total!) tiles in all browsers except firefox, choking 10 000 tiles (25 x less than all other browsers including IE, Safari, Chrome and Opera same...)
Even my 3 year old HTC android phone loaded a map of tile 500 x 100, is 5 times bigger than the largest plan that Firefox will load on my DESK! ..........
Here is a version of my phone and all browsers except Firefox can load: http://simplehotkey.com/Tiles/main.html
If this is not resolved I'll have to force users to install Chrome frames when it will be released for FF and Safari to access my games... that will soon come out... as a way to enforce a certain level of performance... otherwise Firefox will be the only browser I should abandon support for...
I was a big fan of FF for years, but it is serious, my old phone can produce maps over 15 x bigger than my desktop can with FF, which is unacceptable.
Works for me in Firefox on Linux 10.0.2.
Firefox shows even a greater number of chassis as Google Chrome (250 against 220).Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance/themes).

I can't get firefox to respond - even to open. I tried the suggestion of support for the creation of a new profile, but the instructions are not working anymore so I can't create a new profile and test the system. I don't want to lose my info saved thanks to a re - install if I'm not even sure that it will work - if the data is corrupted. whatever that means.
At a stand still...
BTW - since I have to use IE even access this info I can't find the troubleshooting information below. It gets ridiculously more complicated that I never wanted him.
Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you remove Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox and won't lose bookmarks and history. Please follow these steps:
- Download the latest version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org office and save the installer to your computer.
- Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (click on quit in the file menu or Firefox).
- Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

I noticed that this seems to be quite a common problem, however WHY firefox doesn't do Web sites perfectly as do other browsers?
Go on http://www.dee-dee.eu while the homepage does very well as is the "Discography" page but once you browse far into the other pages on the website of the styling is of all the missing, some reason firefox blocks?
This seems to be a common problem that I asked different people to test and the same situation is the result, I do not have Add ons or have configured firefox for anything other than its parameters as it was when I downloaded and installed.
If it is a website issue why would it still work on all other browsers and indeed work very well for 2 pages, its all the same style of coding and style sheets...
Need help with this ASAP!
Thank you in advance!
You are welcome.

I am interested in the use of CSS3, particularly the ability to load fonts if necessary off the internet. So, I would know the importance of the support of Firefox for CSS3. I couldn't find all the pages in the help directly responding to that system. There are a number of bug reports back in time (so clearly pressed some) but the definition of the facilities was not there. It is very necessary because browsers commonly only implements a small subset of the facilities defined by the W3C, so it can lose a lot of time to start with the specifications of the W3C.

your help page refers to the menu option that I don't seem to have. There's no option 'Firefox' on the top menu line or on any menu line. I checked all the option toolbar for the menu drop down. Also, I try to import bookmarks from Safari, but there is no option to 'import' in the menu drop down "file".
You can find the entry menu import into the Manager of bookmarks (library)
- Bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import and backup > import data from another browser
- http://KB.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks

Firefox used to select distinctly the sites already visited when returning to a results page.
It is also used to 'snap' to the area from the results page just visited.
This seems more to happen. Please notifyGo to tools in your menu bar, then options. Where we see Firefox goes..., click the menu drop-down and click on do not forget history, and then click OK. Waalaa. your websites is highlighted in pink. Good luck. Lynne
