Whenever I update FireFox all my usernames and passwords vanish in password manager

For several updates recent Firefox all my usernames and passwords (stored in password manager) disappear. I was able to recover them by exchanging one or more of the three files to a previous version ('Key3db', 'Logins.json' and 'Prefs.js') until this WHAT THE LAST THREE OR FOUR updates. This patch no longer works and I hesitate so far. I would like to know... a) this bug has been fixed?
(b) if it is not, how can I keep my ID & password somewhere else so I can quickly re - install, or at least see them in a list so I can manually copy all back in?
(c) how to prevent a pop-up annoying telling me to update to FireFox (other than by the update)?

I used FireFox with happiness for many years, but this problem is very annoying and I am looking to change (with great reluctance) to another browser if an other update loses all usernames and passwords, and I have to re - install an older version to get back them.
Please help if you can - and thank you for considering this issue.

These can not get your data back, but will help in the future.

  • clear cookies while keeping the usernames and passwords

Firefox 21, if I clear cookies will be all my usernames and passwords are deleted? If so is there a way to prevent it? Terry

If you disable cookies sites can't remember more and you need to connect once more.

You will always have the passwords in the Profile Manager if you saved it.

    • Tools > Options > Security: passwords: "saved passwords" > "show passwords".

Websites to remember you and automatically log you in are stored in a cookie.

    • Create a cookie exception allow to keep these cookies, especially for secure websites and when the cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
    • Tools > Options > privacy > Firefox will be: "Use the custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

You can leave the cookies expire when you close Firefox. Then you continue with an exception allow cookies. If you disable the cookies manually then all specified cookies are deleted, including cookies with an exception to allow.

  • I set up a shared folder in my office, but it sometimes requires a username and password...

How to turn power off, or find the user name and password? No one in the office is very technical interest, took me about a week to find a way to make the record! Computers are old, and due to changes in staff all original usernames and passwords probably belonging to someone is no longer with the company.

    Help!

It lacks a lot of useful info, but I'll make a lot of assumptions...  First, I'll assume that you share a folder on a Windows XP computer and not a network (NAS) storage device.  Secondly, I will assume that this XP machine not use XP Home and XP Pro.  Finally, I'll assume that "Simple file sharing" has been disabled on this machine.

In those circumstances, the rules allowing to authenticate the sharing machine go something like this:

    1. If the serving machine file has the same username and password as the user, then the connection is established without command prompt and the user authenticates as himself and has appropriate access
    2. If the machine portion of the file has the same user name, but the password is not the same, the connection is refused.
    3. If there is no user on the service machine, and that the guest account is active (and not passworded), then the user authenticate as 'Guest' with no other guests.
    4. If the 'Guest' user is not active on the file-hosting of the machine, then a username / password screen appears for a valid identification for the host computer.

So, it would seem that sometimes you are down to #4.  So to avoid this, make sure that something in steps 1, 2 or 3 is true.  Note that if Simple file sharing is enabled on the file serving machine, then all connections to authenticate as a 'Guest' account - which implies that all people will always connect in the same way what is expected by your 'sometimes' in the subject line.

  • When they surf on the web as an administrator, Firefox remembers usernames and password, but when words I surfed as a standard user, it doesn't.

Before Firefox updated to 6, my user ID and passwords that I had saved, or ask the site to remember was always available. If I close the browser and later began a new session, my ID's were still on the Web site when I went to them. After yesterday, 31/08/2011, updated at 6, when I close the browser after a session, usernames and passwords are gone and must be re-entered. This only happens when I sail as a "standard" user If I surf the web as administrator, all my saved info is still there.

No worries; Type "subject: config" into your address bar, and you should get an alert guarantee invalidated. I leave the checkmark in the box for warn me next time.

After you click "I'll be careful", Firefox shows you multiple options, I'm guessing around 1500. Entering 'form' in the filter will only display options containing this string. Options I searched automatically deal with remembering the info you repeatedly enter in web forms.

Some changes require a reboot, and I'm not hip to that. At least in this case, you will still restart to see if it worked.

It is also critical that navigating the Windows registry, but the same kind of precautions apply; You can seriously break your stuff here. Just like Windows and the registry, a clean reinstall can fix everything you break here, but it's always a concern that you would avoid instead. Be careful and patient.

Take notes, which you change the value, so you can change back - right click to copy the name of the option, its value or both, thus facilitating a list of notebook. Remember that you may need to change a couple.

I am not sure that these options can relieve your frustrations, but this is my last idea in addition to a clean reinstall of Firefox.

  • Why firefox does not save some username and passwords and names of other not - especially for the same website?

I use several different accounts LogMeIn, each with their own username and password. Is there a month, Firefox stopped asking to save the user name and password for the new accounts I have access. I even deleted all accounts and began more - most of the time I will ask you to save the information of connection but other LogMeIn accounts that I access Firefox will not be asked to save the passwords. You can provide any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had this taken care. After removing all the old names of login and passwords, you must restart Firefox with a hot start.

I have backed up our hard drive on IDrive, replaced the failed hard drive, but I cannot reinstall my user name registered and saved passwords from saved files. I reinstalled my profile from the back to the top successfully, but the user/passwd news aren't there. • I want to print all usernames and passwords

How to print all my saved usernames and passwords? OR even one at a time?
my handwriting is so poor that impression would be a great HELP
Thank you so much rex thompson.

You can use this module to export passwords in a file xml or csv, that can be displayed in a text editor:

    https://addons.Mozilla.org/en-us/Thunderbird/addon/password-exporter/

    http://chrisramsden.vfast.co.UK/3_How_to_install_Add-ons_in_Thunderbird.html

If you open Tools/Options/Security/passwords / Saved passwords, click "Show passwords", then Alt-print, open an editor of graphics or paint and paste (or paste as new), the display of passwords can be saved as an image.

  • In Firefox 23.0.1, sometimes it will autofill my yahoo username and password, sometimes it will not

I can't tell if it's Firefox or XP, but, what_ever, how do I get XP attantion or attention of Firefox and say: Dear Bozo - AUTOFILL NOW - and get the drop down menu of my name to username/password to login Yahoo much?

The Web site may use autocomplete = off to prevent Firefox to save and automatically fill in the name and the password.

If you already have a name and a password then you should at least get a drop-down menu if you click in this form field (the first may have to click somewhere else to remove the focus of this entry field).

You can remove autocomplete = off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox to record names and passwords and other form data.

Also make sure that you run not Firefox in private browsing mode (permanent) (don't forget the story never).

  • I uninstalled aurora and now all my favorites and passwords are left of firefox 4, how can I recover my bookmarks and passwords

I uninstalled aurora and now all my favorites and passwords are left of firefox 4, how can I recover my bookmarks and passwords?

    Sorry you have coming.

See the attached screenshot. If you selected the option to remove my Aurora (nightly minefield, Firefox) the personal data and customizations you deleted all your profiles for each version you have / had installed. You can try to use a program for recovering files, like Recuva, to see what can be salvaged.

The bookmarks to the file places.sqlite , or among the backup of bookmarks Favorites-aaaa-mm-jj.json files (10 are stored). Regarding your passwords, you need the file signons.sqlite and signons3.txt file.

  • Is there a way to force Firefox 4 to offer to remember and to remember usernames and passwords for sites that use the AutoComplete mechanism to block these offers and memories?

locked by a moderator, 07/02/2012 - has survived its usefulness

In Firefox 3.6.16 (and probably other earlier versions) could force FF to offer to remember usernames and passwords for many sites by editing the file ...\Mozilla Firefox\components \nsLoginManager.js to ignore site - asked deactivate autocomplete (_isAutocompleteDisabled returns false).

FireFox 4 does not use this file, or a similar one that I could find.

The result (FF ignores site trying to disable AutoComplete) is possible in another way or by editing another file?

This bookmarklet makes the browser ignore autocomplete = "off" temporarily, allows to save passwords even on sites that use autocomplete = "off".

    Don't forget to bookmark password:
