  This isn't a bug, it is a limitation of the converter. It is stated in the documentation. Converter considers that any machine under tension like physics. It cannot convert powered on Linux machines to hosted (i.e. Workstation/Fusion) destinations.

  A solution would be to convert it to ESX and then convert the (from) power off the VM power to the workstation.

  Hi, I have been using VMware converter to a few weeks without problem. However, I do not receive an error on the strange conversion where I get the message "no disc info" and it won't let me not resize the disks of destinations (it won't actually P2V in all). He can see all the other source information as the amount of RAM, processors etc, it's just the disks. If I power off from the source, it works well.

  the installation of plugin files will be located on the vCenter Server .iso file.  Inside the .iso file, there will be a file converter.    However, if you are not running vCenter 4 you maybe better off using the stand-alone version.

  I am looking to convert about 10 people (all windows) to a 1.3 Vmware server in a site of ESX 3.5

  FastSCP is a quick way to upload files to ESX.

  Trilead VMexplorer is a quick way to upload to ESXi.

  Your VMserver2 has a tool called vmware-vdiskmanager.

  It can convert VMDK VMserver in ESX compatible with vmdk files.

  This means that the virtual machines that are already using SCSI disks have NO need to be tortured by the unreliable converter.

  You only have to run the VM converter using IDE disks.

  Oops - I just saw you use VMserver1 - the vmware-vdiskmanager included may not convert VMDK ESX compatible.

  But any recent Workstation or VMserver 2...

• VMware Converter refused while trying to convert the Linux server

  Hey all, I'm trying to convert a Server CentOS 6.6 Nagios in a virtual machine on a cluster of ESXi 5.5.0 and not having a chance. When I try to start the conversion I get following error message:

  I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone server Version 5.5.3 Build-2183569 and I am doing the server Linux my VMware vCenter Server, Version 5.5.0 Build 2001466. I thought I could use the wrong password but I can't able to root very well on the Linux server. Iptables is off and Selinux is disabled. I played with the free version of ESXi and now I'm under more Essentials. I Googled it and found a lot of answers, but none of them fit my situation. Here, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  This had already happened with another server (also W2003 DC), but the hardware was completely different; Unfortunately, I wasn't able to solve this year here.

  I finally found the guilty service.

  It was pcmonitor monitor/remote control software. Once I stopped it is service vmware converter could get the capacity of the physical drives.

  It is rather curious because I made several servers P2V conversions using this software (so far the last one two weeks ago - the difference between that server and this one was that the first was not a domain controller).

  Hopefully this thread will help others in the future.

  I appreciate your comments! Start with the basics: Getting Started with ExportPDF

  And here's a more complete step by step (that you already know, but I'll give the full game!):

  1. Sign in to your account on https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf.
  2. Click on PDF files select export.
  3. Click on choose the files on my computer.
  4. Select one or more files and click on choose (you can select multiple files by pressing the Shift or Ctrl key when you click on the file).
  5. To convert to the: menu popup, select the output format you want (in this case, Microsoft Word).
  6. Let the language of the local menu Document configured to English (unless the PDF is in a foreign language).
  7. Click Export to Word. (The name of this button will vary depending on what format you selected in step 5)
  8. Once the file is converted, it will appear at the bottom of the window, listed under exported files.
  9. Hover your mouse over the thumbnail image of the file, and then click the icon that appears on the left side of the thumbnail to download the file in your downloads folder. (You can also click on the files tab in the upper part of the window to see a complete list of all converted files).
  10. Once you have downloaded the file, you can open it up in Word for editing.

• VMware converter restarts the physical server after conversion!

  This can already city, but I can't find any discussion about it. I do some V2Vs using the converter Vmware 4.1.0

  The problem I have is that once the converter is completed, it randomly restarts the physical server, I converted (does not seem to happen to any of them). Of course, I don't want the physical server switch on again as changes could be made to it. I don't see any option in the converter to tell him not to restart or even stop.  It's a VtoV.  He is a SQL Server. Windows 2003 64-bit.

  I try without shutting down the server at all because it's a production server.  I don't have a Vcenter (to copy to an esxi to an another esxi).

  Any help would be appreciated.

  I'm new to Vmware and was looking on the documentation of consultants who installed Vmware for us.  It is said that I should be able to enter Vcenter and go to the plug-in and can see Converter Enterprise Client and click on install to get installed and added to my client to VCenter I can do P2V migration.   I downloaded the Client of Converter Standalone "VMware-converter - 4.0.1 - 161434.exe" but I'd rather have the opportunity to P2V, right-click on the host server and do it from there.

  Can someone tell me what I can do to get this plugin option in VCenter?

  If you select 'manage plugins' in the menu in vCenter plugins you should see a list of plug-ins (see the attached screenshot).  See the ' plug-ins available "and you could see Converter.  Click on download and install beside him and just follow the instructions...

  Of course I would appreciate some suggestions.  Is the MethodFault::Exception: converter.fault.CloneFault the problem?  And if so what does that mean?

  Do not use shared folders to access the virtual machine.

  Hi, I just want to confirm something

  I had a few VM with ESXi 4.  Some are Windows 2003 Server and some Server 2008

  Some of the servers I need to increase hard drive space soon.

  I use Vmware Converter to increase the size of this way, I have my old copy of the VM in case.

  My understanding is that if I use the converter to resize the drive, then Windows will automatically be able to use the space, even the C drive.  So he did not need to use a third part util as Partition magic.

  You are using a generic NetBSD kernel?

  so I think that it is similar to the Open and FreeBSD.

  hotclone is the waste of time - it won't work.

  Use Coldclone - or dd the entire disk - write a descriptor for him then and use it as vmdk.

  In the other BSD systems I boot first time in single user mode - as everything else probably does not work.
  Can I fix fstab and etc/rc.conf if necessary

  I'm trying to V2V an our old infrastructure of VMware 2.5.x our vSphere infrastructure W2K Server.

  I've done several servers of the old infrastructure without problem.

  On this particular server, however, fails with the error "Unable to connect to the Remote Agent of VMware Converter"

  Any suggestions for a solution would be appreciated.

  It looks like maybe the firewall on the server. Install the converter directly on the machine you want to convert, or temporarily disable the firewall.

• VMware Converter Standalone copy is the copy block level and sometimes at the level of files

  Hi team,

  I use VMware converter standalone for P2V and V2V migrations. I noticed that some readers are cloned by the converter by block-level copying and some readers are colned by the file-level copy. Anyone can unmask me why is it so? Block level and file level methodology is decided by the converter on what basis? is the size of the size\sector disc or disc type? Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

  No limit of resizing.

  To resize the D: you extend that will always use at the block level.

  What do you do to E:?  Size reduction?
