  I am trying to convert a physical machine to Windows 7 RC in a virtual machine using Coverter from VMWare. I tried an earlier version and their latest version, but the results are the same. I pass all parameters and all correct credentials and start the conversion. After 1%, I get the "unknown error returned from Agent VMware Converter". I enclose my log file.

  I tried to convert a physical machine to Windows 7 using the current vCenter Converter Standalone (version = 4.3.0 build = build-292238). The target of the conversion is an external USB disk. I am to convert the entire machine, including a disc of about 280 GB in size.

  I have a problem of conversion of some machines on the subnet to another. Since then, I work at the University, here are fairly complex network infrastructure. Whenever I need an open port, I have to record a call and to wait a few days so that it can be resolved.

  I found on this forum similar problem (P2V conversion fails at 1%, 'an error occurred when converting' unknown exception' ') and double-checked my logs.

  the problem is unclear to me. Source machine tries to connect directly to ESXi server and storage. And these machines would not need to directly contact the ESXi Server?

  Hello

  You can convert to the format of the workstation and then convert the resulting ESX VM again. If you have a machine with enough storage in the subnet B, convert, and then physically move the machine or the storage of subnet A and convert again. So, you can bypass the firewall completely.

  I try to use VMware Converter on a physical client that runs Windows 7 and get this error message:

  Failed: The VSS snapshots cannot be stored because there is not enough space on the source volumes or because the source computer has not all NTFS volumes. Error code:

  When you run DISKPART - VOLUME LIST I can see that the two partitions is formatted with NTFS.

  Anyone have any idea why the process fails?

Your options are either convert virtual disks using the command-line vmkfstools on the ESXi host (in this case, you must load the VMkernel multiextent module) or by downloading the hard files and convert them using vmware-vdiskmanager command-line utility. Another option is to download the virtual machine on a local system, and then use VMware Converter to convert to the ESXi host.
