While trying to install SP1a for Windows XP, the error is the following: server has not responded (Windows XP SP1a).

Hello

Recently, I reformatted and reinstalled windows XP on my old laptop. Looking to obtain service packs for it, I read that you need to start with SP1a... I did some research autour and many people are having the same problem, but nobody responded to the real problem. According to Microsoft, I install SP1a to install any other. The error is as follows: the server did not respond. If the server has been taken down or refuses connections. My internet connection remained active all attempts to access the server.
Unless the information is wrong on the website, installation of SP3 won't fix it. All responses I've seen to this problem have been installing something you can't until you install first.
Here is the link, in that it tries to connect:
Connection to
http://xpSP1.Microsoft.com/ISAPI/pstream3.dll/XP/SP1.USA.1106a.
Here's the exact error:
"The following error occurred during the installation of the Service Pack 1a attempted to download the files from the Service Pack 1 from the internet:
The server did not respond. »
Thank you.

You should be able to download the Service Packs as a standalone installer at the following addresses:

SP1a: <> http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=19751 >
SP2 <> http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=28 >
SP3 <> http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24 >

If you can not download to your computer, then use another machine to download the installation file and move it to your computer.

You don't need to install SP1A.  XP Gold, you must install SP1A or SP2 before installing SP3.  I recommend that you start with SP2 and then SP3.

IM currently under xp pro sp1. I want to upgrade to sp3, and I read that before the update to sp3, you have sp1a or sp2 (obviously not available). while trying to install sp1a, I get a message "server not responding" and then he directs me to go to the microsoft site to download a version of the file that does not use my internet connection. I can't find this file anywhere. My question is #1 I'm even doing this right? and anyway to update without having to download sp1a first?  IM this operating system running on an ibm thinkpad. I know its outdated and will be a bit slow though, my reason to update to sp3 should be more compatible with the newer programs that won't let me download with sp1. Thanks for any help in advance.

See my response to this thread--> http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_install/windows-xp-service-pack-1a-server-not-contactable/72a91455-7814-4d05-817c-52a4fbff0d8d

There is a much more important reason to install sp3 ' to be more compatible with the newer programs.  If you have been online since August 2004 with Windows XP service pack 1 or more (when sp2 is released), the chances are high that your system is compromised (one of the reasons why he is "a bit slow").

You might seriously consider a "clean install" of Windows with whatever you have and then recovery media immediately this update to sp3.  If you do this AND your recovery mechanism restores Norton or McAfee trial ware, after you make initial/reinstall recovery and before you install sp3, follow the advice of MS MVP PA Bear below:

VERY IMPORTANT! => Any Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You need TO uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the appropriate removal BEFORE tool to install updates, the Windows Service Packs, or updates of IE AND BEFORE installing your new antivirus application (for example, Microsoft Security Essentials - free).

  • Windows SP1 - "the server has not responded.

    Hello!

I perform a clean installation on the machine of my old mother. In fact, service of the only operation I can install is Windows XP Pro. I downloaded the sp1aexpress_usa.exe file to automatically perform the update.

After a few checks performed by the program, he prepared to download the Service Pack 1 files. A few seconds/minutes later, the following error message appears: "the server has not responded.

I spent nearly 3 hours to dig the web to see if I can download SP1 from somewhere within Microsoft, without a bit of luck. Is it possible to upgrade correctly from this machine to SP1 - SP2 - SP3 and thus now or should I format the computer once more and try an operating system open source?

    Thanks for your time

SP1 (SP1a) is totally useless. All you need to do is to install SP2 and SP3. For more details:

Were you recently doing a Clean Install? I ask because you are implying in your installation of Windows XP is in 'gold' or SP0 (i.e., pre - SP1) level. Well sure, automatic updates will not work!
You can use this path to level – says in passing:
Gold XP to XP SP2 to XP SP3.
Note that installing SP1a is TOTALLY USELESS!
    Here are the detailed instructions:

    1. download the installation of SP2, SP3 and IE8 files. I prefer to keep these on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of three files:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=28 (for SP2)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)

And if you wish, download the Setup file of a good anti-virus program. I recommend Avira free Antivirus:

    http://www.Avira.com/en/Avira-free-antivirus

    2. disconnect Internet.

    3. temporarily disable the automatic updates.

    4. install SP2. Reset.

    5 install the SP3. Reset.

6 switch to IE8. Restart TWICE.

    7 install an Antivirus software.

(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

8 make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should be).

(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet.)

9 visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates.

10 re - enable automatic updates.

    Hi Jim,.

If you already have the Service Pack 1 (SP1) is installed, we do not recommend to install SP1a. Instead, I you suggest to download and install the Service Pack 2 (SP2) and then update SP3 to continue to receive.

For how to obtain the latest service pack, see How to obtain the latest Windows XP service pack

See also: information about Windows XP Service Pack 3

Note: The Support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) will end on July 13, 2010. If you are running Windows XP SP2 after support ends, you will not receive updates of security for Windows. To maintain your Windows XP computer up-to-date download Service Pack 3 via Windows update.

  • "The DNS server is not responding", but I had problems when I tried the fixed IP address. Help!

    Hello

With some networks, all is well, connected and has internet access.  In other places, like where I am now, I can connect to a network, but I can't access the internet.  I tried the long fix recommended on the community of Miscrosoft, start by entering cmd at the beginning and then dealing with IP addresses, but I kept getting "Media disconnected" and where he would have had this connection to the Local network #, 0.0.0.0 or something else, I saw that anywhere.  He just said Local Area Connection * 12 because I remember and then was something like 00000000000000E at the bottom of the entry.  I also tried the method 2, use the control panel and the connection of LAN, but then 'properties' properties of it has not been highlighted, so I couldn't continue.  Windows 7 laptop.  Help!

    Thank you.

    Hello

I think I have solved it!  I use your method 1 and took the link to Microsoft Support.  Then, I used their method 2 (TCP/IP configuration settings), without success.  But I just had an intuitive idea, so I tried again, but do not click on the Local network connection, I clicked on the network, I try to use, Fairpoint-etc, went in and saw that Internet Protocol Version 4 was not set to automatically obtain DNS server address.  So I chose that, hoping that I didn't just kill my computer and voila!  Internet access is here!  We'll see if it stays.

Where it rises again if, because you asked, Yes, I am using a wireless connection and my anti-virus is Avira.  Out of curiosity, is this good antivirus, or is there something better that is also free?  Thank you very much

  • Error message: this operation requires an interactive window station while trying to install drivers for Microsoft Life Chat LX-3000 and Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000

Okay, so I bought recently when a helmet (Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000) and a mouse (Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000) wireless, but my laptop Windows Vista Home Premium is having problems with the installation and execution of the drivers for these two devices.

Original title: driver for headset and a wireless mouse will not install correctly

I already had the Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 and had no problems whatsoever doing this job, but I got it for at least a year I guess. I also installed the software that came with the CD (called Microsoft Mouse, even though it says on the CD Intellipoint 7.1) for the mouse and driver online for headphones (called helmet Microsoft) have also downloaded. However, when I plug in the devices, he's trying to find the drivers. Initially, it comes up with a window saying "New hardware found" and has the ability to "locate and install driver software", despite the fact that I already supposed to be installed the drivers through download programs or to use the CD.

In any case, I select the "locate and install driver software" and it says "search Windows Update... «for 30 seconds or so, then said «Installing the driver software...» ».

I then get a message saying "Windows has encountered a problem... etc... This operation requires an interactive window station. If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit their website and check the support section for driver software. »

If I disconnect and reconnect the device, I get the same situation with "new hardware found" and the options for search again...

I tried both devices on another computer (Windows XP) and they manage to set up automatically even without the software provided on the CD or on the website and work perfectly well, however I need them working on my laptop ;)

So I guess the main problem is that I get this message "interactive window station" preventing the drivers to install correctly. I have no idea what this means and have spent a lot of time trying to find them online.

Well, I've resorted to re - install Windows Vista and installed very well both automatically when it is plugged.

Now to reinstall all my programs... fun fun fun...

    Thanks for your help anyway!
