Why do I always screen boot to Startup Manager

When I start Vista, I always get the screen boot manager asking me to select the operating system. I don't have Windows Vista installed. It is however an update of XP, but I reinstalled the Vista upgrade as a clean install. How can I get the screen popping up boot manager?

Hi Craigbrush,

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Step 1: Start in safe mode and check if the problem persists.

What is safe mode?

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-is-safe-mode

Step 2: If the problem does not occur in safe mode, you can put your system to boot (in normal mode) to solve the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

Hope this information helps.

    I'm in a difficult situation and hoping a Ninja Mac can give a helping hand.

    Had a RAM issue (is no longer recognized a pair of memory modules in a 2008 Mac Pro, El Capitan), and among the troubleshooting steps, I did a PRAM reset (press / hold down ALT + CMD + P + R during startup) just to see if it could resolve. Unfortunately, the Mac would not start in front of a gray-white screen with a flashing icon of folder/question mark. Returned never me to get there.

    I had read that resetting the PRAM the disc start, among other things, may need to be reset afterwards, and this seems to be the case. Looked this solution and kept diligently press Option key during startup. This time, no folder icon, instead a sensitive cursor, but nothing else. Gray-white screen only, no boot manager to select the startup disk is suitable.

    I also tried the following...

    1. Starting in the Diagnostic Mode... Gray screen.
    2. Restore/recovery... Gray screen.
    3. Reset the SMC... Gray screen.
    4. Enter Safe Mode... Gray screen.

    OS (and apps) on flash PCI cards. All files are on hard disks in the 4-Bay, as well as a player flash remains connected to a (used as a scratch of PS) free SATA port. So I can't really share, but I wonder if I shoot all readers it would require a search for another source?

    I create an El Capitan USB boot (currently copy with createinstallmedia), but don't expect that it will offer what anyone else that its use is based on access to the Startup Manager at startup..., that I can't do. There are the graphics on the screen (missing folder icon, mobile mouse cursor) so can not imagine a video problem.

    Looking forward to enter here.

    Success!

    I created a USB bootable OS X installer using these instructionsand createinstallmedia. After some messing around with the Terminal syntax USB was ready to go. My concern, however, was that the operating instructions required by selecting the drive of the Startup Manager... which I could not access.

    With the USB stick plugged in I started to turned on the Mac while pressing the key OCCUPIED Palestinian territory and this time, the selection screen pops up showing just the USB key for installation of El Capitan. Got that we open and instead of installing I chose Startup Manager in the installation menu bar, took my normal OS drive and rebooted. Back in business, no problems.

    This put aside, although I understood that reset PRAM would also require reselect startup disk, I don't have a hot clue why did not appear the Boot Manager - or any other useful diagnostic. If someone could throw some light here would be appreciated.

    Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

    Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

    This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

    This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

    -Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
    For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
    Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

    For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
    Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
    your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
    Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
    Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

    Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
    with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

    Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
    Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
    BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

    Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

    Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
    presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
    in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

    Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

    Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

    Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using the methods
    above is preferred so that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are
    found)
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

    If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
    Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
    older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
    get new manually if you wish.

  • When a computer XP starts, the following errors occur. Can't find Mac addresses, can't find DHCP at startup. PC is not connected to a network. Why would it gives this error at startup.

    When a computer XP starts, the following errors occur. Can't find Mac addresses, can't find DHCP at startup. PC is not connected to a network.

    Why would it gives this error at startup?

    It is not a Windows problem, it happens very early in the boot process until Windows is still a part of the image.  Your computer is configured for a remote network via PXE boot and there is no this PXE server so that you get this error message.  With PXE network boot, you can start a computer without him having a hard drive, the operating system resides on another machine on the network.  When the BIOS does not find the PXE server it gives you the error message, and then it proceeds to the next start equipment, which is probably your local hard drive.  Go into the BIOS and disable the PXE boot option or move it to the bottom of the boot order so that the hard drive is set as the primary boot device.

  • Creative cloud: why must I always be logged to the Application Manager?

    Hello

    I've been on the creative cloud since may, 2012.

    Today, 6 may 2013, a very strange thing happened.  At the launch of Photoshop, I was asked to accept the license agreement, then

    It took me to another screen where he asked me to log-in to start my trial period.  I clicked on "Buy this software" and I had to log-in to the Application Manager.

    I was able to use Photoshop and I thought everything was OK.

    However, this problem arises whenever I left PS and tried to re - start.  It has also happened with other applications!

    After spending a few hours on chat with technical support, the only thing that works for me must always be connected in the Application Manager when using all Adobe software.  The tech support guy had a reason for this, but for now, it is the workable solution only.

    I must also say that I am able to use the Cloud Creative applications while on the internet, but once again I must always be logged in the Application Manager.

    If I connect to the Application Manager, the above problem re-surfaces.

    It is a new problem as of today. Previously, up to yesterday (May 5, 2013) I was always connected in the Application Manager and used only to connect to get updates.

    Why is this happening? Is this a problem or how it works now?

    Hi Jeff,

    Yes, it works.  I can be connected on the App Manager and use the Adobe software with a new user account.

    However, until you tell me to always switch to this new user account whenever I want to use the Adobe software, is there a way to solve this problem with my current user account?

    In fact, it would be easier for me to be always connected to change username all the time.

    Thank you

  • Suggestion: why not provide a screen protector when buy

    My iphone 6 s screen scratched with only 2 months under normal use. I never put it with hard items, such as keys or coins, but its striped screen. My friend told me that I will not go into every day cheap shield as I already spend so much money to buy the iphone and it says iphone screen is scratch resist, so I never use a screen protector.

    Apple service got scratches on the screen is not under warranty, even if my iphone is almost brand new. It's so sad. Replace a new view spend a lot, that makes me do not wanting to replace but discovering all these scratches.

    If the screen of the iphone is easily scratched, why apple not provide screen protection that can keep original screen display quality can be easily replaced after striped with a cheaper price, rather than to replace a totally new screen?

    Really hope that apple could hear me and have it in the future. In the contrary case, the saying of the scratch resist, finger print evidence mean nothing to most people that I know that most people buy iphone want to use screen protection who do not have a good viewing quality as the iphone screen.

    Thanks for posting the request in the Microsoft community forums!

    If I understand correctly you want to turn off the camera at startup assistant software. To do this, you can try the steps:

    a. click on "Windows + R".
    b. Type "msconfig" without the quotes and press 'enter '.
    c. open the 'Startup' tab uncheck the "camera assistant software ' and click 'apply' to save your settings. Reboot your system to make sure that the software assistant camera does not start.

  • Always invoking of custom sublayout() #Manager

    My question is this acceptable design to always invoke sublayout() to a Manager custom because of keyhandling in a screen?  I'm on an arbitrary amount of BitmapFields that are made to scale accordingly to the press of the button.  It seems that some content on BitmapField are not properly updated during the subsequent sublayouts.

    Note in the following code:

    -The first field in the Manager is a special case.

    -The following fields are added as such BitmapFields: series of fuzzy BitmapFields, then series of the targeted BitmapFields.  (e.g., add (bitmapfield1_unfocused), add (bitmapfield2_unfocused), add (bitmapfield1_focused) and add (bitmapfield2_focused))

        protected void sublayout(int width, int height) {
            // TODO Auto-generated method stub
              int x = 0;
              int y = 0;
                Field field;
                Field headField = null;
                int numberOfFields = getFieldCount();

                if (numberOfFields > 1) {
                    numberOfFields = (numberOfFields - 1) /2 + 1;
                }

                x = (width/2) -  _bitmapBaseSize*_focusIndex  - _bitmapFocusSize/2;

                for (int i=0; i 0) {

                        if (i == _focusIndex+1) {
                            field = getField(_focusIndex+numberOfFields);
                        }

                        layoutChild(field, width, height);

                        //
                        //(width/2) -  _bitmapBaseSize*_focusIndex  + _bitmapFocusSize/2
                        setPositionChild(field,x, y - field.getContentHeight());
                        x += field.getContentWidth();

                    }
                    else { // If is the RegionableBitmap

                        y = headField.getPreferredHeight();

                setExtent(width /*Math.min( width, getPreferredWidth())*/, Math.min( height, getPreferredHeight()));
        }
    }

    Oh, Yes, you need a Manager customized for this!

    Still, you'd better first create all your BitmapFields (for small and large bitmaps) with bit style FIELD_BOTTOM.  Do not add to any Manager yet!

    Once this is done, I would say something like this:

    1. do you have a NO_VERTICAL_SCROLL | NO_HORIZONTAL_SCROLL | USE_FULL_WIDTH | USE_FULL_HEIGHT Manager with a background set to your bitmap image full screen (pre - 4.6, you must override paintBackground (Graphics g) - it is documented that for Screen.paintBackground () but works from field!)  In its sublayout() position her only child - a HorizontalFieldManager (see below) - where you want it to be.  Use layoutChild (hfm, width, height) to first, then setPositionChild (hfm, (width - hfm.getWidth () / 2, height - hfm.getHeight (()), where hfm is your HorizontalFieldManager containing the rest of the bitmap.

    2. create a custom HorizontalFieldManager (that I called hfm):

    (a) substitute his paintBackground() to do anything - you do not want to erase areas

    (b) initially to add the BitmapFields according to those that you want the user to see.  Say, you want to display the five image, number one and two small, numbers three large, small number four and five.  Add only the necessary fields.

    (c) inside of the navigationMovement() replace the BitmapFields that must be replaced and updated the layout.  For example, if your dx is 1 (one step to the right), you need the following:

    -remove the first bitmap;

    -replace the third (large) bitmap with small correspondent;

    -replace the fourth bitmap (small) with the corresponding wholesale;

    -Add the sixth (or the first if you have a total of five pairs of bitmaps) small image;

    -call on your hfm updateLayout() (perhaps not even need all these add(), replace(), and delete() should ask to rearrange)

    3. Add hfm in your full-screen Manager.

    I hope that gives you enough ideas to be implemented!

    AppleHFS.sys/AppleMNT.sys are used to allow access to filesystems OSX JHFS +. Restoring Windows on Mac backups can be painful. If you have already fresh install of W7 on the internal drive, try the restore without installing any driver BC. Please be aware that such a restore is not aware of the partitions on your internal drive and can erase your internal drive.
