Why do I keep backup disks.

I have to continue to purchase backup discs on

When you say "disks", do you mean CD or DVD?

You don't have to. This is just one choice. Unless you have relatively
few things back up, this isn't a particularly good choice. You may want to
instead consider using a USB key or an external hard drive.

Have you put it into a different USB port than usual? It could be the automatic run settings.

You can check by clicking on the Start button, click Control Panel configuration, then double click on default programs, and then choosing automatic playback settings, the option will be under the removable disks, change it to anything that suits your needs.

  • I have to keep all my backup disks?

I save regularly every month, but I'm running out of space to keep all disks. Can I get rid of the older ones?   I don't know if recent records are duplicate the previous information on the backup drives.

Check the instructions and files from any backup solution you use help. Check how to backup a full rather than an incremental backup. Perform a full backup. Then you can throw the previous.

Bet to wait until you have two full backups. If you do a full backup every time, you can keep throwing the oldest. In the disks, 'Tho'.

  • Time Machine - keep backups on a disk-without having a full backup?

This kind of destroyed the concept of TM "incremental forever" which I assumed could survive a movement of backup of data from a smaller to a larger drive?

  • Pavilion dm4-3090se: how to use the SSD after restoration of the system of Windows backup disks?

    Hello

After a lot of work, I finally could restore my OS using Windows backup disks that I created a few years back. (The OS has been corrupted when the power has been accidentally deleted from the system and the battery was dead)

Restoring backup widows put everything on 444 GB C drive.  Nothing I put on the SSD drive d:-20 GB and there is nothing in the tools of HP E: drive - 4 GB

How can I make use of the SSD drive to help speed up the system?  I see the system starts and runs more slowly now.  I'm ready to blow the current operating system and re-run the Windows backup utility.  But I need to know how to use the SSD during the restoration.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hey @llebrez,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! This is a great place to find solutions and help our community!

I understand that you have some information about using the SSD in your HP Pavilion dm4 Beats Edition Entertainment Notebook. I'd be happy to help you with that.

The SSD in your laptop is used for a technology called Intel Smart Response. Intel Smart Response uses the SSD as a type of Cache smart to help load the items faster. The reason why that is not used currently is because the restoration of the system is not designed to use the SSD for intelligent caching and is not able to establish that on its own.

If you want to configure Intelligent caching on your laptop, you can follow this guide provided by overclock.net: how: implement the Intel Smart Response Technology (SSD caching)

I hope this helps. If you have more questions that I'm able to answer for you, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • Want System Restore to format my backup disk. It's bad.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Windows backup and restore...

I had a hardware failure on my C: drive.

I had a backup disk in the machine.

I installed a new hard drive.

I put the recovery disk and went to the image of system restore from another location.

I chose my last system image, and told me that I tried to restore to the backup media. That's news to me. I tried to restore to C: and the backup drive was m: (I have a usb card reader into the system). It would be nice to restore my system, but I couldn't go any further.

I tried to install Windows 7 from the original media. This facility went well. The machine starts, but all my programs were gone. I ' don't know if I can reinstall the MS office and Adobe products, because they have a limited number of facilities. Not to mentions, it takes a few days to collect all the drivers and Setup etc.

With the new installation of Windows 7, I tried to restore from a different system image. I found my old image (s) and when I tried to restore, I was told that I was running the disk of should be formatted, and I have to run from the installation disk or recovery disk. I have tired them both, and I got the same error, I had previously.

I looked in the BIOS and SATA configuration has been set to AHCI. That's what I want, so I can external SATA drives hot pluggable. Just for thorough, I tried to upgrade the BIOS to IDE. It's a step to go. So, everything is back to AHCI.

Finally and above all, when Windows starts, it is the new system that I installed it, disk management displays my C: driver because roll most of the 1 time and at least once he appeared as drive 0. I'm sure this is drive 0, I unplugged each drive and tested that each player was during the installation with the BIOS. Why change the designation of the pilot?

Includes any body what happens to hear. It would be nice to recover my system, I save a few days and a lot of begging for authorization codes. But more importantly, I have need to have confidence that I can indeed restore my system when I need to. I did restore on other machines and the recovery rate of file. I think it is my first restoration of the system on Windows 7. The last of them was Vista.

    Help, please.

Windows 7 installation of imagery is very basic and rather whimsical. If you need good features, then you need to install a third-party product such as Acronis image. One of its limitations is that drive target for the restore process must be at least as large as the original source disk. If it isn't then the restore process will introduce you to it.

There is no need to go begging for authorization codes. MS Office (and other well-known software) relies on a hardware "signature" when you save it. If the signature is the same as previously (for example due to a change of disc) then you don't have problem. If it is very different (for example because of a new motherboard) then you will need to ring Microsoft and explain the situation.

  • I have a new backup disk (a disk of 5 TB of Seagate) and need help setting up with CCC!

    Hello world

I have a new backup disk (a disk of 5 TB of Seagate) and could use help setting up with CCC.

I did in the past without problem, but I want to assure you of a few things:

      1. This particular drive has software available in a folder on the disk backup (w / the PC and Mac versions). But... I intend to use this disk as an exact copy of my iMac HD; It must also be bootable.
      2. Should I format the drive with disk utility? Or load the software to the CCC on the disk and just leave their only backup software?
      3. One last question: I also have a MacBook Air, an iPad and an iPhone. I want to save them as well. Should I put them on separate partitions, I created? Or can we just one big happy family? The last is best.

One last piece of information: two computers, etc, were all backed up via Time Machine. My data the most important, photos, etc., are also saved on deposit box and/or iCloud on a regular basis.

Thanks for any suggestions or comments!

    Sally D.

Delete and partition the drive by making a separate partition for each computer. The iPad and the iPhone is useless their own partition because they back up using iTunes and would appear in the clone of the computer that you use for each save. Each partition must be the size of the current cloned drive that can leave you with additional partitions for other stuff. Then format the drive Mac OS Extended journaled. Do not install any software that came with the drive, none of this is necessary.

I use a very similar setup with a 3 TB drive. I clone my boot SSD in a single partition, my drive internal 1 Tb in a second, my Macbook to a third party, and I have a fourth partition which is currently empty, because I haven't decided what to do with it yet. I also have a 3 to Apple Time Capsule.

Well I know not down because I close every time the right way to dose... Can someone tell me how to solve this problem... It's really annoying... Hello Marlin29, this is currently an issue in firefox when you close all firefox windows open first and then close the application subsequently - the bug should be addressed in a more recent version of firefox.

a workaround in the meantime, you could close firefox (via firefox > quit) while the browser window is still running or try this: enter: config in the firefox address bar (confirm the message information where it appears) & search preference named browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash. Double-click it and change its value to false.

  • Time machine could not complete the backup of... The backup disk image could not be found (error (null))

Running OS 10.11.3 on my early 2011 Macbook Pro 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, use Time Machine to back up to my Airport 802.11ac purchased 16/09/2014:

Backup failed: Time Machine could not complete the backup of... Airport Time Capsule.   The backup disk image ' / Volume/Data/MacBookPro.sparsebundle ' could not be found (error (null)).   Last successful backup: yesterday at 12:17

I can see the airport and the data file in my network.

I immediately did a full time Machine backup on a USB key and it disconnected from my system.

I unplugged the airport, let it rest for a minute and returned the power plug, let it settle for a green light.  I'm restarting Time Machine backup to the airport.

I need to replace the airport?  The appliance starts to fail?  Or, it is more likely is a problem with winter static electricity that has damaged the image and reconstruction will fix all this.  Reconstruction will take about four hours with no guarantee that it will work.

    Hello

You try Time Capsule stop and unplug for 1 minute. Then reset the SMC on the iMac by Intel iMac LANDAU and SMC will reset and restart the iMac and restart the TC and retest Time Machine.

  • my mac is the display of the comment... No backups for 13 days.  Connect to a power outlet while your backup disk is available.

My Mac is the display of the comment... No backups for 13 days.  Connect to a power outlet while your backup disk is available.  For my time Machine control, everything seems to be saved.

Time Machine also creates temporary copies on your internal drive when the backup drive is not available. So you can see the 'temporary' backups on your internal drive.

I recommend that you connect your external drive and your power adapter and let make a permanent copy - ones on your internal drive are subject to deletion if space is short.

By now he may need to do a 'deep traversal' which can take some time.

If my computer falls down can I use a backup disk to retrieve

The best way to start is in safe mode and if it does not progress to a Windows repair disk.

You haven't said which OS has your laptop or which model is it. Create a Windows for Windows 7 or Vista repair disc, depending on which is installed.

Always start by trying to restore the operating system to perceive before even to consider so final option as a revaluation. The reasoning behind my statement is simple. An repair is non-destructive. An recovery is destructive and exterminates all what you had on your hard drive and start from scratch with no programs installed.

  • SBS 2011 Server Add backup disk

    Hello

Using the SBS Server 2011 standard backup utility, it doesn't seem to be a way to add an additional backup to the existing backup disk without adding new all disks at the same time, which translates into all current backups are deleted.
Is it possible to add an additional drive or replace a faulty, without erasing all current backups?
