Why drives c and d closed c$ and d$ on windows nt server 4

I have discs on a windows nt Server 4. The first hard drive is partitioned as c and d. The second drive is partitioned as e and f. Why are the drives c and d labeded c$ and d$, and will I have problems if I try to put programs on d$.

Where are you seeing the dollar sign designation?

If this is how they are shared - that is normal and known as the administrative shares.

If that's how you see them in 'Windows Explorer' on the physical system (no remote) - well - it could be just the name you gave them?  (You can call Bob and Jim if you wanted.)
