How can I stop Firefox to redirect me to the Yahoo search engine
When I try to go to the official site for ATF Cleaner, Firefox redirects me to the Yahoo search engine.
I have removed all references to Yahoo in my registry and searched all the user for any reference to Yahoo profiles. I am running Firefox version 29.0.1 on Windows XP.It is also possible that this problem is due to an add-on, maybe one who snuck on your system as part of a bundle.
In the case where one of your extensions is concerned, could test the page Firefox Safe Mode? It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:
- button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
- Help menu > restart with disabled modules
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works
After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).
Any difference?

I've followed all the patches on your chatline:
At different times, I turned off the graphics accelerator, I cut all add-ons, refreshed firefox, went in firefox safe mode, but even though firefox is returned to normal, after 2-3 restarts if he returned showing on my home page yahoo search engine. I have my own homepage written in HTML and use it on all my browsers for many years. I downloaded Firefox on the Mozilla site (twice) and have never downloaded from a Yahoo site sponsored. I never asked to have Yahoo as my search engine and do not want. I'm getting harder and more fed up with the situation, and if no permanent solution can be found, so I'll let Firefox (after many years of use). Please find a solution! Thanks to all who offered a solution to my problem, but although some suggestions were given a temporary solution, the problem is back after a short time.
However, I think that I have now found the solution:
Although a spybot check did not find a problem, I searched "Files and folders" in the control panel and found 2 entries for 'the browser extensions' and 'search protection' of a company called "SPIGOT.COM".
I uninstalled both of these applications and it seems completely solved the problem, even after several reboots and cold starts.
I don't know who is this company, have never seen before and never knowingly downloaded something on their part or any partner site.
So there you have it!
I hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

I remove my Yahoo search engine, but it keeps adding back that "your default settings of the search engine have been restored. I don't want that. How can I stop it?
Hello, Tim.
You may have a problem with an extension or plugin that obstructs normal behavior of your Firefox. Have you tried to disable all add-ons (just to see) to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

The search engine by default on the home page by default in firefox redirects me to yahoo and I can't understand why or how there to remedy, I made suggestions and the solutions proposed in the positions and earlier versions, and I don't know how to fix it.
You hear the engine of research on the topic: Homepage?
Reset the pref browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone through the context menu by default on the subject: config page and close and restart Firefox to restore the on: default home page.
- Open the topic: config page through the address bar
- Type in the filter bar: mstone
- Right-click on the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone line, and then select: Reset
- Close and restart Firefox
If this does not help, then delete the button Delete the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder and repeat the above.

New installation of Windows 7 x 64.
First program I have installed is Firefox... and I did have the time in the last three weeks to install anything else.
Whenever Firefox has updated these last few weeks, the default search engine continues to get back to Yahoo. If this is part of the agreement with Yahoo Search, then I'm history; I use Chrome instead of Firefox, although I have sorely missed it. I don't like having to go make adjustments each time I install an update of Firefox.
Hello dwbrant, it was a bug and no policies intentional - please refer to the answer in another thread by an employee of mozilla: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1041571#answer-677594

The German version of FF for Macintosh also default to this terrible yahoo search engine?
It seems that all the blah - blah PR of mozilla/firefox on the 'transparency' and 'privacy' is meaningless, since the browser firefox now default to this search engine terrible yahoo and not programmers have still found a way to deal with it. What about other versions of firefox? Are they censored, so?
Yahoo seeks to his game, and it is trivial to choose your default search engine.
But if something on your system can change or override your settings, such "Searchme 2.5" expansion valve that is listed in your system over details and is recently affecting many Mac users, then you need to remove that:
http://www.spigot.com/about/contact-us/uninstall-spigot-Mac-extensions/
In addition, the answer to your question is: Mozilla has only an agreement with Yahoo for North America.

I even tried using about: config and it do not allow me to change defaultsearchengine from Yahoo to Google.
Thanks to all who responded, but especially of Phillip. Its solutions to try first and the problem was resolved after I removed the CDA Downloader which was not compatible with Firefox 23. I also removed the 2 other extensions that I wanted more. Restarted Firefox and I was able to access the glasses in the search bar! Problem solved to do only half of Phillip suggestions, but I'm running anyway both suggested programs. Once again, thank YOU!
