  • The search bar appears hidden, and I'm not.

Sometimes, when I type Ctrl + F, the search bar doesn't show all the way. I have to get out of it in full screen, turn it on, then exit full-screen mode. It may have something to do with the add-on bar. I have attached a screenshot.

Also, I just typed this entire post and when I clicked on submit, it says "access denied." I think it's because I created an account, started the ticket, has confirmed my account, then submitted the ticket. Obviously, it's a session error, if it is going through. I bet this has happened to many people.

It is possible that the screen is too high and the scroll bar and the search bar and the bar of the add-on to fall down.

    • Use Restore or expand in the context menu of the taskbar icon to set the focus to the Firefox application if you do not see the window of Firefox.
    • Open the system menu of the window of Firefox via Alt + space and see if you can move and resize the window.

If it works then close Firefox (file > exit/Quit) to save the setting.

  • An add-on to force firefox switch to the default search engine in the search bar

    Hello

I have a few search engines in the search bar of firefox. I find it extremely annoying that whenever I have change the search engine, that it stays like this, even after restarting firefox. Is there an add-on that would go to the one who is at the top of the list (which is my default for search engine being both navigation bar) whenever I restart the browser?

Let me give you an example: I use duckduckgo as a search engine by default in the search bar and navigation bar. Let's say I need to find a definition for which I use the wikipedia search engine. Then I go to wikipedia one. I disable the browser the next time I start firefox search engine that appears in the search bar is wikipedia and I would have preferred it to be duckduckgo.

    I hope that's not waves.

    see you soon,
    Omen

Easier is to put the default engine for search engine preferred via the user.js file in the Firefox profile folder by copying the line user_pref() related to this file.

The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can search the topic: config page for browser.search. to locate the pref (s) you need.

    • user_pref ("browser.search.defaultenginename", 'Google');

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

    • Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: see file (Linux: open the directory;) Mac: View in the Finder)
    • Create the folder chrome (lowercase) in the .default < xxxxxxxx > profile folder if the folder does not exist
    • Use a text editor such as Notepad to create a file user.js (new) in this folder (the names are case-sensitive)
    • Make sure that you select "All files" and not "text files" when you save the file via "save file as" in the text editor as user.js
Otherwise, Windows can add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with one does not not user.js.txt file
  • It is always possible to search with different search engines in the search bar and address bar?

I used to use the address bar of Firefox to search for things on Google and the search bar to search for things on Wikipedia. The convenience, especially with the shortcuts Ctrl + L and Ctrl + K has been incredible and I don't understand why this feature would disappear so I guess that it simply was hidden without subject: config somewhere. How can I go on revenant Firefox which is previous feature?

Note: I use the Nightly build of Firefox for 64-bit systems, if this issue must be addressed specifically to this branch of development please directly to where I can do.

From 23 of Firefox, the address bar uses the search engine selected in your search bar.

Assign keywords to your search engines, then the prefix of your search in the address bar query, for example

    g gingerbread recipes

Google search for revenues of gingerbread.

  • I want yahoo.co.uk option in the search bar, so the prices of products are in POUNDS, not dollars

whenever I use the search bar, I always find myself with ebay.COM or amazon or other U.S. sites, and it is annoying because the prices are in DOLLARS, no BOOKS and search bar "options" do not include no us sites for some reason any!

    Try https://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?

It is possible to add individual search engines

The best method is simply to install the version of Firefox.

There is no need to uninstall first it just download and run the installer again. Note the UK version currently use Google, but if preferred you can change this to Yahoo with a few mouse clicks.

Hello Chaosdruid, This is the correct behavior, ctrl + f to open the search bar, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that disables some settings and disables most Add-ons (extensions and themes).

(If you are using an additional theme, place you in default theme.)

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Mode without failure of Firefox in the Help menu by clicking on the restart with the disabled... modules menu item:

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Mode safe mode as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

Once you get the pop-up, simply select "" boot mode safe. "

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

    Thank you

  • Whenever I open Firefox, I find that there is no search engine in the search bar, and I have to reset or start in safe mode to make them reappear. Why?

There is no EnginSearch search bar in the top right of the page and none appears when I try to restore the default values or manage search engines. To return to the search bar, I usually have to reset Firefox or start in safe mode, but this doesnm looking for a solution to this problem.

It is a conversion tool - Vixy Freecorder. Not sure if that was the cause, but I uninstalled and not had any problems since.

  • Why is the search for words in my search rather bar if G for google image search?

In the upper right corner where I type for the elements, the word search is there instead of the symbol "G" for google. He used to have a blue "G" for google. Why is this and how can I change it?

34 Firefox got a new scheme of the search bar. Does not display the icon search engine.

You can return to the former regime of the search bar fairly easily, if that's what you prefer.

Open Subject: config (typed in the address bar)
Do a right click and toggle this false preference

    browser.search.showOneOffButtons

    Then restart Firefox.

  • Firefox cannot connect to google in the search bar

I recently had an attacker change the IP address of the DNS server in my router to a bad. When it has been changed, I couldn't access google or facebook. I have fixed and can browse both sites, but the search bar in the upper right won't take me to google. I get an "Unable to connect" error. Do other search engines (e.g. wikipedia) is very good.

Firefox 37 right out of the box (+ router nonsense) on Ubuntu 14.

Time seems to have fixed. Maybe the https / /google.com ip has been in cache or something.

34 Firefox has a whole new search bar and associated Options tab.

You can return to the former regime of the search with this bar.
