Why Lightroom 4.4 do not read the photos when importing?

I insert a SDHC card in a card reader, LR begins, bed pictures and generates a preview of what I can select the photos to import. I click Import and LR displays a progress bar that comes out too fast. When the progress bar ends LR informs me:

'The following files were not imported because they could not be read. (50)"

50 is the number of files that 'could not be read.

1 LR read files to generate the previews.

2. I can read files with Explorer and copy them into folders.

3. I can tell LR to add the folders that I copied the files and LR can very well read.

This behavior is consistent on several SD cards of different cameras with different formats of files (jpeg, nef, mov).

I am running Windows 7.1 64 bit with a quad core i7 and 12 GB of memory.

OK, thanks to all who have offered their thoughts and comments.

The issue was that somehow directory for obtained import defined users - it was more my images. If everyone who rejected the LR error ("could not read files") was on the right track. It can read files fine, but he could not write.  And of course, LR does not and should not have write permissions in the Users directory.

If Adobe has published a correct error - cannot write a file to the 'users' directory, then none of us would not have wasted our time here. I apologize to everyone for not check to verify that the destination directory has been what I had changed it put. In addition, if a full path was provided with the error message then it would have been obvious what the problem was, even if the message were wrong.

ssprengel me on the right track. I wasn't going to run LR as an administrator (which would have made the writing of users work, but would be bad), but I went to change the destination directory and found that it was more long my images.

When I download Canon 70 d to my adobe lightroom photos will not read anything else than .jpg files. Others are shown but foggy. When I try to import in lightroom, I get the impossible to read the message. Never happened before. Where am I wrong?

For the 70 D to be supported, you must at least 5.2 LR: https://helpx.adobe.com/de/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

I suggest upgrading to LR6 (later). The upgrade is about 70 dollars and worth it - just my 2 cents.

  • Lightroom does not display the photo after importation.

Currently, there are 3 pictures in a folder.  I saved two more in this folder with photoshop CC

at a time in tiff and psd format.  I imported as usual, but the photos are not displayed in the "library" window

If I try to import the pictures are greyed out, as if they were already listed.

I found the problem.  The photos have been duplicated and in another place where they should not have been.  I did a search all photos and thought it was them.  Once I knew it was easy to fix.  Thanks for the suggestion though.

  • Problems with the photos in El Capitan-cant app drag in other applications and can not find the photos when using Word

I feel very disappointed with the new iMac (27 inch high range) I bought specifically so that I can work quickly with video editing - BUT who currently my old iMac with Snow Leopard on my desk and still use it to create documents in Word, etc, among other things. He really miss the old iPhoto - all about it. Not like the new photos app at all and I was wondering if I can install iPhoto on the new computer? We're stuck with the white background of the screen and do not like the new editing panel either - I had my screen tonic to a shade of gray that is visually not too exhausting to watch as the white. Is there a way to customize the color of the workspace I have forgotten?

I'm not also able to drag and drop photos from the app directly in other applications - this was a great feature that could work very quickly. Can't believe that Apple went backwards with this? Or am I still missed something once?

Also, now, I tried to create a new document in Word and when you open the photo browser to import an image from photos in the document, there is no pictures - all other media is accessible but no pictures, not so to drag picture on the desktop then document - once again, having Apple went backwards , or I'm going crazy?

Hoping that I do not regret this purchase very expensive!

A beautiful (and expensive) iMac. Congratulations.

The latest version of iPhoto still works in (a little hard to get 'quiet' Photos.app) ElCapitan, see a lot of discussions here.

Drag-and - déposer is depending on the applications. There is still work, as usual.

Word is updated to the latest? I heard there were a few problems, but they should be solved now.

  • Lightroom 3 setting of the photos when importing

    Hi all

I use LR for a while, and I thought I was pretty familiar with it, but one thing I've never been able to fix is import settings. Minor changes are made to the import (import DNG from a CR2 file). The only I can say have changed are the White Balance [hue:-7], light + [50] and the contrast + [25].

Is this normal? I need to create a preset that has solved nothing and use it when I import?

Here is a screenshot of two photos; the one on the left has already been 'adjusted' by Lightroom, the right one does not (where three little points in the upper right corner). I prefer much the appearance not adjusted to the higher contrast, saturated look.

I'm shooting with a Canon Mark II, and I tried all combinations of settings in the import preferences box.

    Thank you very much

    You bet.

This should be enough to get you started. If you like certain aspects, but not others, you can change using the DNG Profile Editor (it's not just for DNG).

I'm not an apple person.  I read on a few different forums that apple has changed what is called 'writing' in a recent update to apple.  You may need to find an Apple expert to show you how to make sure you are allowed to write to files or locations on your computer.

  • Adobe Lightroom will not read the raw files

I have a Nikon D3000 I was shooting in raw and using lightroom 3 for about 3 or 4 months, he has always worked very well, but today when I tried to download some pictures, he said that he could not read the files. I uninstalled then reinstalled lightroom and downloaded an update, but it still doesn't work. I don't know what to do to make it work, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Connect photo/card reader to your computer and drag image files into a temporary folder (or your desktop).

A cable/card reader/port can go wrong from one hour to the next, so you have to find the root of your problem using any other material.

Dehaze feature has been introduced in the version of Lightroom CC2015.1 and is not a part of 5.7.1 version which is the previous version.

If you need the dehaze feature, you must subscribe to plan creative cloud so that you use the latest version of Lightroom.

I JUST bought this new macbook pro and Lightroom installed, imported 2 lots of pictures, but all of a sudden he kept denying my imports with "could not read the file" or "couldn't copy file at the location requested.  Help, please!

Your use of the word "files" (in the plural) still makes me believe that you have not checked the permissions on the folder that is appropriate (in the singular).

You must determine the Destination of the Lightroom Import dialog window Panel and see which folder Lightroom is really tr6ing to copy photos in (which may have been accidentally changed and is not what you may have used in the past) and change the permissions to write to this folder.

  • Computer to read DVD - one message says that I can not read the DVD, except that I have installed a new driver.

I have a new Toshiba C650 laptop, and he says that I can not read the dvd on it except that I have installed a new driver. Is this true?

    Hi Bill,

To be honest, this sounds ridiculous but if you get a message, I suppose it could be possible even if I find it incredible.  Do you have it in a (local or online) retail store or Toshiba?  By any chance did you upgrade from the DVD player when buying (where they may have accidentally neglected to update the drivers of the drive that was originally installed)?

As it is new, Toshiba should help you with this.  Here's the contact page: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/navShell.jsp?cf=su_contact&pf=true.  Give them everything they need to prove that buy you it and it should be under warranty and then give them the message Word for Word, that you have found.  They should be able to help you.  They can, for some reason I don't know, you don't need to help or guide you through a new driver installation.  I ask for a clear explanation of why this is necessary on a new computer and, if you are not satisfied with the response, ask them to consider that all the faulty computer and replace it.  Even if they won't, he needs the get them less motivated to solve your problem.

    I hope this helps.

FWIW... Win XP cannot natively recognize Commercial

If you could play before commercial video DVD...
do a system restore to a time before this started

Or you could buy a DVD decoder at the following link:

  • Dual Boot with windows XP Pro with 2 HARD drive, error on secondary windows install: "Windows did not start because of a configuration of the disk of the computer problem. Could not read the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware... »

Hi, I recently bought a new Hitachi 1 TB internal hard drive. I wanted to do a clean install on the new drive (d), be able to dual boot my computer and leave my old 300 GB disk (C :) as the primary windows installation. After physically installing the new HARD drive, I noticed that "new hardware found" and the the brand name flashed in the bottom right corner. I thought I'd see the new hard drive in my computer, but I did not. I initialized the new HARD drive with the computer management window (right click on my computer - manage) and I also formatted in NTFS (I had to change my printer hard drive letter to assign the new HARD drive with the letter D, but I've made other changes after this step). Now, I could see and use in my main windows on the C: installation. I then installed a windows new copy XP pro with the installation CD I got for my C: but on the D: (Note: I have a Dell computer (and the Dell reinstallation CD) and my current version of windows has SP3 while the installation CD is only SP2) (I also reformatted my HARD drive during the installation of windows to NTFS)

Now when I try to start on installing the new on my D: I get "Windows did not start because of a configuration of the disk of the computer problem. Could not read the selected boot disk. Check startup disk and hardware access path. "and another line saying to refer to manuals HARD drive and windows.

My Boot.ini file at this time was:

    [boot loader]
    Timeout = 5
    default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    "multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect
    "signature (ac516a5c) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional own "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect

I looked towards the top of this help page, but for now I'm unlucky:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314477

(The next steps I took by throwing from the Windows CD and go into the repair console)

I tried to use the bootcfg /rebuild but the line to boot.ini for my secondary HARD drive still does not work.

    He gave me something like:

    [boot loader]
    Timeout = 5
    default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    "multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect
    "signature (ac516a5c) disk (0) rdisk (1) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional own "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect

I also tried to change the signature() to multi (0), but it did not work. (or try almost all possible permutations of disk() and rdisk() partition() 0 to 2).

I also tried to use expand F(dvd-drive):\i386\ntkrnlmp(I_have_a_duo-core).ex_ D:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe and a few other combinations, but I when I login as D:\windows simply, it fails to extend with a message like "could not develop" or C:\windows I get "restricted access".

I have not yet tried CHKDSK/r, but since I did a clean install on a newly formatted drive... I don't think it would work.

I've also marked the partition on the D: as active (in computer management), but it did not help me.

I've done a first installation of windows repair, strangely, I couldn't fix this one... Still does not work...

My default windows installation yet works very well & I see that windows has been installed on the D: but I'm ideas from how to operate the dual-boot, can someone throw me a BONE on what to do?

Maybe try to do something with the Boot Manager (whatever it is?) Create a new partition and use it as a boot manager? I don't really want to do this, because if I made a mistake I will be unable to use my computer and dual boot should work without going through all this trouble... But I found this page: http://technet.microsoft.com/fr-fr/library/ee829686%28WS.10%29.aspx

Could a clean install two HDD help? I hope I won't have to do...

    Someone has an idea?

PS: I'm not such an advanced user so I need a solution step by step, thanks!

Edit: I also noted that I can't see my new HARD drive in my BIOS... weird... SATA-0 is my old drive HARD 1 and 2 are my dvd 3-5 readers are 'off' and it doesn't seem to be anything that it is plugged in. I also have 4 bays for internal HARD disks. Now, 2 are busy.

Edit2: I looked inside my case and enabled the good Sata in the Bios after a reboot it detected the drive correctly. Dual boot doesn't always work well... The fact that it was disable in the BIOS while I was installing the new HARD drive could change anything? Hmm...

In case I wasn't clear enough: I had a windows XP Pro installed on my C:, bought a new hard drive and installed the same copy of windows on it (d). I think that should allow me to double boot between the two installs different. Even if for some reason I can't boot from one on my D:. Andrew, I do not understand why you so far physically disconnect the other drive, the point of the whole operation is to build a boot.ini file so that the BIOS knows that it y facilities 2 windows and you allow to choose (and not have conflicting problems between the 2 systems), someone correct me if I'm wrong? "Expand" the part of my first post made reference to one of the solutions provided by Microsoft in the first link that I have included in my previous post (but I can't seem to work).

In addition, it is the procedure that I followed: http://www.ehow.com/how_5950826_boot-two-different-hard-drives.html

(except I've had the first installation already done).

Andrew "also, once a new hd is plugged on the pc & running, most of the BIOS will place (them) as 1st priority hd, set the BIOS to do this", you mean that by installing separately from windows on each unit when the other is not plugged in, I could choose what disk to start from defining their priority in the BIOS once they are all plugged back? It's too tedious (as I intend to move frequently between the 2 installs) and requires a computer to other users of the lack of computer knowledge. Unfortunately, it is not a viable option.

EDIT: I DID IT! Hmmm... Well, I double checked in the recovery console, the path of the new HARD drive with the arc command Scan. Tried to start again with the MULTI (0) in my boot.ini and it worked... I also had my windows install CD in. Maybe that is why I could not start, windows needs the CD to complete the installation? Weird, I don't know what I did to the difficulty it... but hey, it works! Thanks for your ideas guys!

    Hi fredibar,

1 are. What utilities you referring?
    2. what exactly is the problem with Windows install?

As the CD/DVD drive does not read the CD, we need troubleshoot CD player. We do not think that Windows Installer is related to the CD player.

To fix the CD/DVD read the issue, try the following steps:
    a. see your CD or DVD drive cannot read or write media
    b. click Run Now button and run the tool successfully.
    c. restart the computer and check if the CD is read by the CD/DVD drive.
