Why my data Ext Hard Drive WORD & EXCEL from my old computer does not recognize my new computer with Windows 7.

Recently, I replaced an old computer running Windows XP with a newer computer of Windows7.

I have TWO Toshiba external hard drives 2... one of them (Mdl HDDR250E03X) is used for external backup of data on my computer.  I started using it for my old computer that was running on Windows XP.  Due to a Trojan infection, I had to buy a new computer running Windows 7.  I thought that the hard drive is simply a plug-and-play device, BUT my new computer has not recognized that there is a device plugged until someone suggested that I make a change in the Device Management section (which only works at Midway).  My new computer now sees that the drive is there, BUT the data displayed under a name of file/folder (dec22a69bbd43e6966c9935e4720f7).  Data include WORD files, EXCEL files and .jpg files.  When I click on this long file/folder name, I get a long list of records as well as other unknown files that I don't recognize.  Inside each of the files is the SAME set of files (EULA, LocalizedData and SetupResources.dll.  When I try to save a WORD or EXCEL file on this disk, I tells me that the drive is empty, then the path and destination does not allow me to record anything.  I suspect that the problem lies in the Windows 7 software to recognize the hard drive but, I'm totally new to this Windows 7.  Everyone recognizes what is the problem?   I KNOW that the data is always there because I ran my virus on this single drive software and I could see many file names as they were read.

Hello DuaneMeyer,

What are you help save external hard disk?
It is built in the backup part OS backup software or a 3rd?

Please let us know.

    1. with respect to the first question: your system files have been corrupted. Do a System Restore before the app was used.

Try you "tune up", "maximize", "registry cleaners" or any what kind of app that promises to improve the performance of your PC somehow. None of them improve anything, often at the antipodes (as you discovered). Microsoft W7 already has all the apps. you need to keep your PC in tip-top condt. Try not to add anything.

All these various named apps. are all 'snake oil' and very dangerous to use. However, you will find a lot of 'logic' online promo. material from "authoritarian" sites as to how will be beneficial for your PC. Not drawn in by these Advertorials :)

2 the hidden partition is probably "restore to factory condt." partition rescue/recovery of the manufacturer of your computer. This can be used for the rescue of PC when things diabolically wrong with your operating system and cannot be set by any other means. You need an ISO image (clone) of the OS partition and MBR (master boot record) only, not the entire HARD drive.  Including the partition of relief are a very good idea but I'm not familiar with the software cloning you use.

Download Macrium Reflect free edition for purposes of cloning and recovery and make the CD

image recovery disk. He advises you to do so (by steps in the simple wizard driven) before using the program for anything regardless of whether the image.

I just plugged it because that's the way I was told to do.
I need to download the drivers to operate?
It will work on my laptop, or is it a "most recent" CD player that will not work with my laptop?

    I'd appreciate any help. THX

The BIOS does not recognize this new CURIOUS because the player seems not to be fully compatible.
I think there bad master/slave/c-salt settings

As you know these settings can be changed on the external CD/DVD drive for desktop switching jumper. But it is not possible for computers portable CD/DVD players.

You can solve it only purchase a new compatible disc.

Usually the ASP in your country could help you buy this disc of these guys here
However, you can consult the user manual if there are a few details on the compatible sides.

Try to use this tool, it's called Windows easy transfer, I don't know if it works with an external hard drive or if you want to just manually, you can transfer the file using the method of copy paste...

Try following the steps under "Windows 7 or Windows Vista" in the MS KB article:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/982116

These measures, to remove the UpperFilters and LowerFilters, values if they exist, in the registry key named can help.

Create a System Restore Point beforehand and restart the computer later.

  • Tecra 8000 does not recognize the new HARD drive

I read on this forum and Google search, but nothing helped.

I think the disk on Tecra 8000 (Pentium II, 266 Mhz) is "dead".
I tried to replace it with another laptop to see if that would work.

The laptop does not, even if I put just like the original.
Y at - it somehow special or what I have to change something in the Bios?

    Hello

Don t need to change BIOS settings

As long as you use the compatible HARD disk, the BIOS should recognize the HARD drive automatically without big problems
What drive did you use? What size, interface, etc.

The Tecra 8000 is an oldie and I think that you could use only the 4 GB; 6 GB; 9 GB; 10 GB; 14GB IDE hard drives.

More large hard disks would be not recognized by the BIOS.

  • Satellite 2805-S603 does not recognize the new HARD drive

    Too recent for 2805 controller?
Which one i should buy, he worked normally?

PS: Sorry for the bad English-_-

Seems that you have purchased a HARD drive badly and is not compatible!
I discovered that IE Toshiba MK3017GAP HARD drive is compatible with your laptop.
This HARD disk supports an ATA-5 interface and about 30GB.

If you want to be sure that the HARD drive works in your laptop 100% please contact the service provider authorized in your country and order the HARD drive support.

  • Satellite L305D-S5881 does not recognize the new HARD drive

Ok. I've had this laptop for a while now.
It crashed recently. So, I tried to start it up.
I got "Winload.exe missing or damaged".

Fortunately, I found an answer to this!
I got the Vista installation disc and inserted.
I had this "PAGE_ERROR_IN_NONPAGED_AREA". I fixed too. Stick of 1 GB of RAM to my computer was bad.

So I replaced it. And during the installation, it hangs. And beeps and undesirable.
So I thought it was my hard drive. I have a new. (http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/adet.to?poid=431567 please TAKE a LOOK BEFORE RESPONDING).

I (try) to install and it does nothing.
I turn it on and it goes to this page with as my enthernet info. Then I go into the BIOS and it appears. I think I could install it wrong.

    Any help?

    Hello

I think that the new HARD drive is not recognized, because you have not installed the SATA drivers!
The new mobile phones support the new SATA controller and especially the drivers are not included in the Windows operating system.

So, you must first include the SATA drivers before install you the operating system.
AFAIK the L305D supports an AMD and ATI chipset and SATA drivers must be placed in the ATI graphics driver package.

On the other hand, you could install the operating system without the use of SATA drivers.
I think that the BIOS must contain the SATA mode option. Usually it s set to AHCI. Pass this option in compatibility mode and you should be able to install the operating system.

    Cheers mate

  • My imac does not recognize my new western digital hard drive internal that I just installed.

I created a bootable usb key with yosemite on this and I am trying to format the new HDD, but all options are grey and doesn't let me do anything. It is also said he has 0 KB and the hard drive is 2 TB. Ran a few commands on the terminal, I found online, and it said me that I have a usb key where I yosemite. Any ideas?

Using disk utility you need to divide the hard drive by using the GUID partition scheme, and then Mac OS Extended journaled. If the disc is not recognized at all, you've probably done something wrong, have a bad SATA cable or a new defective hard disk.

  • Original image has disappeared I think off the hard drive and the BIOS password set up does not work?

Someone please help me with this!

I bought this laptop from a friend (have receipt) who sell it to me because the screen was cracked and spidered all out when you the activated. And everywhere he went to ask to get the screen fixed it is very expensive ($250 - $350) and he said that it would be just a newer laptop. So he sold me this which is a model Probook of HP4420s XT940UT #ABA. About a week after I bought this Probook friend who sold it to died me suddenly. It was sudden and terrible. Some time later, I had the time of the purchase of the LCD for this model, replace it myself (was very easy actually) and booted up the laptop with a new installation of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Edition. After installing all my software and using the laptop for a while now, I wanted to get into the Bios that I've never done. So when I started the laptop, click ESC, then F10 to enter the BIOS, there were two places to enter a password is different then all Dell I've ever owned. One was mine I guees I put in place using HP protect tools and the other says BIOS/administrator. Well I can do most of the changes with the one I put in place with my password but my password does not work, nor can I get in some very significant changes that I wanted to do using Bios/administrator, as kindling the LoJack, namely the blocking of the hard drive etc. , turning on turbo boost, fan, etc. Well, since the person I bought is no longer with us, there is no one to turn to the answer to this question of administrator/BIOS password / problem.  I tried to take battery Rtype and restore that way, didn't work. Several times, I called HP and they sent me to a BIOS page to download the same BIOS, I have already, would not let me install it. When I bring up the command prompt and do not put anything in BiosConfigureUtility.exe happens, said just a wrong command. When I try to enter the BIOS through the C: file in the files of the SSM, I reach the BiosConfigUtility.exe file, click on it to open it and it just flashes a way small order page to fast to read what it says. I would like to have complete control over my laptop thinking I have a lot of time and money invested in it now. The problem would have something to do with installing the 64 bit version of Windows 7 instead of the 32 bits guess what it initially provided with?  Where can I find the UUID and what tech Department I would ask because if I have to call HP again and what other information should I have ready for them if you know? I have all the manuals and they say that this laptop is compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Pro is what I installed. I'm mixed responses from many different people on this and would like an answer from HP someone who has experience in dealing with the BIOS in the Probooks business models if possible please. I really like this Probook and have since become a big fan of most HP, Dell and Lenovo.  I intend to buy two probooks, one for my wife and one for my daughter because this one is like a MacBook, but better.  Thank you for reading this and I hope someone can help with more than one answer then GET AHOLD OF HP TECHNICAL TEAM. As I said, I did it.

    Model: HP Probook 4420 s

    Jason,

Sorry to hear about your friend and your problem.  The BIOS password cannot be reset without the help of HP.  They will need some information from your PC and increase your case.  I recommend you give them a call.

My Dell desk top running Windows 7 Home Premium and had an initial internal hard drive of 1.5 TB (7200 RPM) SATA. I am installing a 3 to Western Digital My Book Studio external hard drive, to store videos and photographs.

    Hello

Have you tried to connect the external hard drive on another USB port?

Try to connect the WD external hard drive on another computer.

    Follow these steps:

Method 1: You can run the troubleshooter in the following article and see if this fits the Bill.

Open the hardware and devices Troubleshooter

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-hardware-and-devices-Troubleshooter

    Also, run the Fixit.
Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us

Method 2: Check if the external hard drive is recognized in disk management and assign a drive letter to the same.

To open disk management, follow these steps:

    a. click Start, type disk management in the start search box and press enter.

    (b) if the drive is detected in disk management, I suggest you to assign a drive letter and see if that does the trick.

For instructions, see this article change, add, or remove a drive letter
