  • Windows Explorer hangs when opening office files

Windows Explorer crashes when opening files on the desktop.

The accident occurred when going back (or hit the back button) when a desktop folder is used.

After a few weeks of frustration, I've isolated a few things that makes it a little easier to deal with, and maybe this will help some members of the community help me pinpoint the problem.

I've exhausted trying to use system restore system backups.

I discovered the stops 'window launch folder in a separate process' the 5-10 sec reload of the Windows desktop.

Open the folder by opening a window of the Explorer than navigating to C; \Users\USER-ME\Desktop does NOT cause the error; just when you open the folder 'from' the office.  (which goes against the convenience to keep files open on the desktop at first project)

I suppose that as a last resort, I could start using a location (like C; \MyDesktop) place the files in there, and then create shortcuts to them.

I was about to do an installation of Windows o/s before you find the option 'split the process' & isolate when & how it occurred (as first of all, I thought it was totally random)

The only unusual thing that occurred near the time of the problem was trying to uninstall [Google Drive] that crashed due to a security locking violation.  I reinstalled today, uninstalled mode safe, found guilty folder (... AppData \Local\Google\..) used 'Take Ownership' and then finished. But after a registry cleaning & several resets, the problem persists, then maybe it was just a coincidence.

There are a lot of reasons, it may happen, but my guess is a failed shell extension.  She's going to Extensions are what adds options to the context menus you see when you right-click on various things.  The hull of the Office is different from cases, even if a program (like Google) added an option to the menu in both places, so it is possible for one to have a problem.  You might be familiar with the common shell extensions, like "Scan this file with Norton" click on menus and others.

You can use a program like shell ShellExView to disable the extensions one by one to help out.  Although my personal dose of this situation is to create a new user account on the computer, then do drag your files into the new account, and delete the one damaged.

  • Why my Windows Explorer was closed not to Data Execution Prevention?

There is no sense to me at all. I have always used a good program antivirus on this pc and I've used Security Essentials now for many months.

I enabled Data Execution Prevention several years ago and I even re-enabled it immediately when I reinstalled Windows XP and all my programs and docs a few months ago. Should I worry and if yes, what should I do today? I use this pc for a day now as this "shut down" and I see no problem.

I wasn't talking to you Jeff A Davis.

When when XP has a DEP error, it is usually Explorer Windows or Internet Explorer.

The first thought of people seem to have (when you don't know how to understand and resolve it) is to add just exploring or IE to the DEP exception list so that the next time she threatens, XP allows him to go right on and pointed her out.

The DEP exception list have a purpose, as if you have some special application that you know is safe and getting DEP errors for it, you can add it to the exceptions list so you can continue to use the program without complaining XP.

If you encounter errors of the DEP in Windows Explorer, you can understand what the problem is (usually a third party extension) and decide what to do.  Blindly, adding that a DEP for Explorer exception is unwise, short sighted and unsafe.  However, it is a quick way to make the error go away.

DEP is supposed to protect your system and XP should not feel threatened by the components of its own - except if the component is severely affected by a third-party extension.

There is a method to solve the DEP errors.  Adding exceptions for Explorer or IE isn't the first thing to do.  It's the lazy thing to do.

I'm actually spawn a creativity out of the SE.  A Microsoft Support engineer should know how to resolve errors DEP - or learn how at least.

Don't worry though - there is a self answer with links to the articles the Microsoft KB and the guarantee about it as the answer to this topic.

    ·        You did changes to the computer before this problem started?

Since we do not know what is causing this problem, I'd suggest unanimous the event viewer on your computer and check the details in the window logs messages/error codes important related to the question, during the time where this problem occurs and after return.

Event logs can help you identify and diagnose the source of current system problems or help you predict potential system problems.

You can try to start both computers in safe mode and check if it can open the folder where the MPEG 2 files are stored and if windows Explorer crashes. To boot to the desktop in safe mode keep tapping key F8 during restart. Once you see the option to start in safe mode select and press to enter.

I hope this helps. Post back with the required information.

  • Why crash Windows Explorer on right click in the left pane?

In Windows Explorer, the time that I did a right click on any folder in Windows Explorer hangs: "Windows Explorer has stopped working.  A problem caused the blocking of the program works correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. »

I have run the System File Checker.  Nothing.

I used MSCONFIG to disable everything except Windows components.  It still occurs.

Any thoughts?  I work around by using the file menu or work in the right pane, but it's maddening.  Had no such problems with XP.

    Thank you.

Sorry for taking so long to answer.  It took me a while to be able to clear a day working on this - it took 2 in all.

In reference to your list included... decipher the CBS proved impossible as my input does not seem to match the referenced site, but it says he's fixing something.

On the section 2... slow right click article had the same symptoms that I had.

Article "manage... context menu entries. "gave me an error and would not display.

ShellExView is wonderful!  I started to disable anything other than Microsoft and it fixed the problem.  Now, I just find that it is the culprit.

Also downloaded FileMenuTools (http://www.lopesoft.com/en/) and it is ideal to remove the entries (found in your How To edit link...) without digging in the registry.

I wanted in any case, thanks for the help.  At least, it works again!

original title: HELP for the installation of Win XP.

    Hi Jorge,.

So the only thing I can think is that it is a sort of master/slave thing.

Your IDE HDD will be a Knight, probably alongside where the power cable is inserted, to dictate whether the player will be considered to be a master, slave, or cable select. Assuming that it is the only HARD drive in the PC, make sure it is designated "master". Then, in the BIOS, make sure that the boot order is specified as HDD0 first (as opposed to HDDx where x is greater than zero).

In addition, assuming that the data cable is the new type of Ribbon with strands of 80, make sure that the blue connector of the IDE data cable is in the motherboard and that the end of the black connector is in the HARD disk and, if it is a two-disc data cable, do not use the gray connector.

    Tricky
