Why photoshop create new shape layer whenever I draw a line?

Hi guys

I try to draw a bunch of lines, but Im having a problem. I start with a blank page, then I create a new layer. There are, I have the line tool and draw a line under this layer. That layer because that immediately a layer of "shape". Then I draw another line, and rather than stay on the layer, it makes a new layer of 'shape' and mask the previous layer. This continues and and for each line, it makes a new layer and previous mask. Why he continue to create new layers? I want that all the lines stay on the same layer.

Thanks for your help

Alex

As c.p you said "almost."  Choose 'Combine shapes' in this dialog box, Options bar.

  • ABSENCE OF PEN TOOL FULL WHEN YOU CREATE A SHAPE LAYER

Hello, I am going through Chris Meyer video courses be apprentice AE and spent over an hour on the following problem.

    Here's what I know.

I know I'm trying to create a shape layer, not a mask, to create a framework to surround the video of the green field on the attached screenshot.  Therefore, I pressed "F2" to make sure that I do.

I want to set the borders of this picture frame by using the pen tool to draw a path on the layer titled "Windy Peak.

I stressed this layer in my calendar.

This video has been glued on a form of placeholder that I created using the command Option "/" on my Mac.

I have limited use of the pen tool, because it displays correctly when I hover it over the borders of the video to be framed.

But I don't have access to the controls of toolbar I want to fulfill my mission.

For example, I would like to create a gradient to define the internal coloration of this framework, but I have no use of the pipette when I click on the color picker.

In addition, I cannot access or manipulate all substantive standard options or outline for use of my pen.

    That's what I know.

Thanks for pitching in Todd and Rick, I appreciate it very much.

As stated earlier, I use the pen tool, but there only functional limitation as it showed the path that I created on the green meadow.  My Tools panel remains enabled.

My main problem is that I can't adjust the background settings or outline for my pen.

I tried to change and reset various workspaces and it did not help.

    I'm scratching my head here.

  • Why not Photoshop create new files or open after a while 'old'?

So I've had this problem for about a month now and is really infuriating.

I installed the trial version CS6 Master suit, and after a little more, I would like to notice that after some time of using photoshop, would not:

    • Open old files
    • Create new
    • Would slow down and begin to break the feet if I had a file open when the 'event '.
    • It would be impossible to record.

After a google search, I found a lot of suggestions, such as the default printer is a network printer that was not connected or that the suggestions were corrupt. None of them worked. I did a clean reinstall of windows, but this did not fix my problem. Now, I think I remember that there was a problem I had as many years ago, and it's a windows update that screwed up Photoshop, one of the K9XXXXXX these updates. Other than that, I have no leads other than the fact that it is a hardware based or somehow the problem persists after reinstallation of windows.

I tried to support, but of course they require that you bought to get any help. So all I have is this forum. Help, please.

Open photoshop when it is buggy and press Ctrl + Break (Break) (it's usually next to the print screen).

  • In Photoshop CC2015-how I automatically apply a style to the shape layer that I draw?

    HI -.

I work in an office with a few different versions of Photoshop on Windows 10.

On my CS5 PSD I can draw some shape layers, like arrows and have all the styles applied automatically style palette that I draw.

But the fellow with PSD CC 2015 workers need to use 2 markets - draw shape layer and then select the style in the style palette.  None of the settings on the top of the screen seem to allow us to apply the style we attract.

Is there a hidden area or a preference?

The automatic application of a style has been removed from Photoshop?

    TIA your answer.

This is not possible with the latest Photoshop shape tool. If you want that it is a characteristic shape tool like Photoshop old tool form the best you can do is submit an idea on the Adobe site comments but you hold no breath hoping Adobe will implement your idea.  If you want this feature you will now need to regress to an older version of Photoshop as CS2. • Why AE creates images key unwanted whenever I have change a property?

    Hi all...

While hoping that maybe somebody could shed some light on this - whenever I go to change a property of a layer, AE (CS5.5) creates a keyframe that I don't want to, even if I didn't click the button on the stopwatch.  Any thoughts?  What is happening to someone else?

Example: I have a model containing a PNG sequence on a layer above some video footage.  I want to move the model the right way, so I select the layer and move it to the right.  Suddenly, the stopwatch icon Active (without me clicking on it) and a keyframe appears on the timeline of the layer where the playhead is.  Very befuddling and quite irritating - if I'm bored, forget remove the key and try again later to animate the layer, it messes up the animation, and I have to go hunting for the thief key.

in any case, I hope that someone out there has an idea of what is going wrong and still more if all goes well, how to fix it.  I have a horrible suspicion that he puts some that I've accidentally changed...

    Thank you all!

    p.

    Hello world.

Scratch the above - just spotted the massive big red "self-image changed properties key" button at the top of the timeline.  Oh!

    Thank you all,

  • Deleting a selection in a shape layer

    Hello

I use CS8 and am something of a novice.  I created a form using the feather in a shape layer.  Then I click on "Subtract from shape area", then I use the ellipse tool to create a box to remove from the form. The + symbol on the symbol appears, suggesting it will be subtracted from the form, but nothing happens when I release the mouse button (the tutorial Photoshop says the shape of the ellipse will be immediately cut out of shape).  If I use the delete key, the entire layer is removed.  I can get this working on the background layer, but not the shape layer.  Can someone let me know what I am doing wrong?

The way you described what you do in your original message will not work, and this is why: you have a shape layer, which is a vector object, and you're trying to subtract a selection of pixel based on it. There are several ways you can do what you want.

    1. instead of try to subtract from the selection of the form, you can click on the layer mask icon while holding down the opt/alt key. This will create a layer mask that cuts a wedge thought the form.

    2. you can use another form to cut a hole. Select the ellipse shape tool, and select subtract before form in the menu. When you select the option of form before subtracting, make sure that your current shape is not selected, or it will reverse.

  • Dynamic object and shape layer

    Hey guys,.

I have two questions, and I would be very happy if you could help me with my problem.

    01. when I copy a form of Illustrator and paste it into Photoshop as a "shape layer", it is sometimes placed on contact information does not match. It is not represented as the 'pixilated Preview' since Illustrator intends:

    Icon_Shape_Layer_Photoshop.png

But when I use the tool 'transform' to move and type in coordinates equal form, he looks right and he is portrayed as for the 'pixilated Preview' in Illustrator:

    Icon_Shape_Layer_Nice_Photoshop.png

When I place the same icon as a "smart object", it is always placed right. Is there a solution why?

    02. when I place a symmetrical "shape layer" (like the heart icon) and check the colors with the "Color Picker", a few pixels to the right are (minimal) chromatic values other than the same pixel on the left side. But when I place it as a "smart object" pixels on the right have the same values of color on the left side. Is there a solution for this?

I really appreciate if someone could explain that to me.

Thank you very much in advance!

    See you soon

    Thorbman

What do you proof is anti-aliasing. There is no way to adjust the color. It is supposed to be a mixture of the color of objects, and what is behind it.

  • Need help to transform a shape layer in a layer mask blur adjustment

I understand how to do a blur mask on the image adjustment layer, so it blurs the images below, which is essentially what I'm trying to do, but in this case, I already have the shape layer (or rather imported from Illustrator > converted to a shape layer) and is in a nested composition.

First of all, is it possible to blur the images of a composition if the adjustment layer is nested in a composition of the child, or the adjustment layer must be in the parent publication; the composition is blurry?

Second of all, how we simply take a form that they have already created and use that for a mask, in this case, a mask that will blur everything below?

    Forum thanks!

There are a few things that are not effective in your workflow and your approach.

Lets talk first about the Illustrator files in After Effects. Firstly, absolutely the only reason you would ever convert a layer to illustrator in a form would be to use animator tools found in the add menu at the top of the shape layer properties in the timeline panel or to animate a Bézier path on this layer. There is no other advantage in converting a vector layer to a shape. NONE.

Second, if you want to hide an adjustment layer then you can draw the mask directly on the adjustment layer or any layer with transparency, including an illustrator layer, layer photoshop, any hidden layer or layer shape directly on top of the adjustment layer and use this layer with transparency as an Alpha or Alpha reverse cache by approach to the adjustment layer.

You can use the luminance values of any layer that has no transparency that a luma or reversed hides by luma approach. The white areas offer transparency with luma standard. IOW, if you have a radial with white in the middle and black gradient on the edge and you use a luma matte and white will be transparent on the layer below.

Standard caches only affects the layer immediately below the source.

Adjustment effect layers each layer directly under the adjustment layer. Masks and caches can be used to control the effects of an adjustment layer.

You can also use masks on any layer to control the effect added to this layer if you have a recent version of AE. You will find the option under options to Compositing.

If you have any layer with transparency or the strong luminance values, you can use Auto Trace to generate a cache for this layer based on transparency or luminance. Any way shape mask or Bézier path can be copied and pasted to another layer.

We will take your last question now. You should be able to answer. To use any shape you created as a mask, you use this layer as a track matte.

We will change that approach a bit and assume that you have created a shape layer by using the pen tool or converted an Illustrator layer to a shape. You have a path that you can be found by selecting the shape layer and by pressing twice the key U. find the path you want to copy, rotate options path to reveal animation controls and to set a single keyframe and then copy (Ctrl/Cmnd + c). Even of the forms created with parametric tools like star, ellipse, rectangle can be converted into a path by right-clicking the shape and selecting convert to paths. When you have copied the path put you on the layer where you want to paste the path, select the pen tool to begin to draw a mask, click anywhere on the layer and paste it (ctrl/cmnd + v) and that you have created the mask. This works for forms and masks on any layer.

Here's a bet to keep everything by copying and pasting masks. The size and position of a path is calculated from the center of the layer and has no relationship to scaling, rotating, or the position of the layer. If you drew a mask on a layer that is resized to 50% and moved to the top right of the comp and rotated 45 ° and then paste this path to any other layer you will NOT get a path in the same position and the same size as the layer sampled in the model. You end up with a path that match if every sampled layer transformation properties have been reset and the layer was at the center of the model and the rotation and scale were normal. You must pay attention to this issue by copying and pasting traces of Bézier.

I missed a question type. If you nest or call a layer previously and there is an adjustment layer in the main computer it will affect all layers below. If you dial before a layer and a top adjustment layer then only layers in the nested model will be influenced by the adjustment layer.  I replied before but wanted to make sure.

BE very careful when you watch YouTube tutorials on workflow because a growing number of them is bad teaching techniques and pointing you to the bottom of the dead-end alleys. Make sure you vet your training.

If you have any other questions the best place to find good community resources is to type a word in the search help field in the upper right of the AE. For example, if you typed layer adjustment or masks, you would find a lot of very good advice on how to use these features.

  • AE CS5 - shape layer - moves the anchor after keyframe position

I am an intuitive (to me) behavior with a new shape layer. Here are the steps to reproduce the problem. I was able to make a CAP to screen the problem but can't find a way to upload it on this forum.

    1. in an existing publication, I create a new shape layer

    2. by default, the anchor (central point) is in the center of the shape layer dead. Perfect.

    3. I turn on Position key frames and add a keyframe position my moment

    4. instantly the anchor now jumps to the center of the composition, and so now when I adapt my shape layer is not measure correctly

If I try to use the Pan tool, I get keys to position images. Moreover, I SHOULD NOT HAVE to DO THIS, being the anchor point to the correct start with place and it is only because of this "bug" keyframing who jumps out of anchor point.

What I'm missing or doing wrong? How can I add a keyframe position to a NEW LAYER that has no other animation on it and always keep the anchor point in the center of dead of my form?

    Thanks for your advice,

    Tom

Again, read the help. Shape layer items have their own groups of transformation. To achieve a correct animation, you must animate those, not the global container layer.

  • Can I reverse a shape layer?

When I create a shape layer, of course, the path is closed and the fill is inside the shape. Is there a why to reverse it so that the filling is outside with a 'hole' editable inside?

You can create a 'hole' by changing the shape option in the options bar.

First draw the shape of 'hole', then change the option to "exclude form overlapping areas."

Now you can draw the shape for the outside edge - this can go beyond the edge of your document.  the Centre should now appear as a whole.

  • Scribble on 3D shape layer effect redesigns and changes the thickness when you move the camera in the Z direction

    Hello community,

I have created a shape layer in Adobe After Effects, marked as 3D layer and copy and paste a path of Adobe Illustrator as a mask. I applied
a static scribble "on transparent" effect to this layer, which works very well.
The problem I have is: when I'm using a camera, bound to a null object and move it in Z-direction (which resembles zoom), static squiggles
are redrawn and the thickness of the line scibble is fit for the line seems to have a thickness irrespective of the position of the camera on
    the z axis.

    scribble_zoomin.png
This is how the shape with scribble effect resembles the departure

    scribble_zoomout.png
This is how the form looks like by moving the camera 'backwards' (-on the z axis). The lines are all too thick
compared to the camera and therefore appear thicker compared to the size of the shape. Also drawing freehand inside the arrow is obviously
redesigned, apparently maintain a constant spacing between the lines of the Freehand drawing.

Is it possible to prevent the Doodle redesigned and lines and spaces to be put on the scale when the camera
    moves?

I use after effects CS 6, 11.0.0.378, Windows 7 64 bit. Scribble effect is version 1.0

I appreciate your help! Thank you.

First of all, update! You are missing a lot of bug fixes. CS6 should be on version 11.0.4

Second, you need to precompose your Doodle arrow so that all effects are occurring inside the precomp. And just to make the 3d precomp.

Instead, double click on the T in the text layer.

  • Photoshop CS3 gel when I create a new adjustment layer

I work on a Macbook Pro. Have a lot of memory/RAM/scratch disk space.

When I try to edit an image (that I exported from Lightroom) PS crashes as soon as a new adjustment layer is created. When there is a second layer, I am unable to return to the original layer. Tool changes automatically the default 'move' tool 'pipette' and the PS freezes.

Lived all the archives and can't find any help. Also just reinstalled the PS from the disk and still have the same question.

    Thanks for the advice/help.

Press the ESC key. I bet he'll release.

You opened the dialog box setting somewhere offscreen.  Usually this is due to have a second monitor connected and the operating system is always display (often on laptops).

Elements has never supported 16 - bit layers.

FAQ: Why Photoshop Elements is less expensive? What is different about Photoshop?

This has nothing to do with trial versions.

When you change in the raw converter, you can set the menu in the middle of the bottom line to 8 bits.

Or you can open 16 - bit, use the global changes of the editor without layers (the only edits where 16-bit is useful) then convert 8 - bit to layer or detail work.
