Why the standard user can't print on network?

-Computers A and B are networked through a router Linksys Wireless.

-An HP printer, set apart, is attached to A computer, via USB

-Both computers are under XP SP3

-All users on both computers can access the Internet.

-All users on A computer can print

- But only administrators on the computer B can print. Why? !

It is a maddening problem - I spent hours trying to figure out how to give the ability to print the standard user on computer b. , but it will only print on the network if I give her a Director.

If I keep him a standard user, he can see the printer. His printer status indicates ready. If he sends a print job, it goes into the queue, it shows that the impression, then disappears into the void.

Already tried rerunning the wizard of networking on both computers. File sharing and printer are turned on. Nothing works. No one on computer B to print unless I make him an administrator. Then there is no problem. Help, please!

Tom

Hi Tony,.

Try to configure the security settings for printer on the computer a. Click Start-> settings-> printer and faxes-> right click on your printer-> properties-> Security-> Check for permission for everyone... You can also add the UserID from the other computer (computer B) and provide the access rights to the printer.

I hope this helps.

  • At the login page, our administrator is the user can't find anywhere and the connection we have is a standard user. How can I get an active Admin in the standard user user?

We tried to implement the standard user to have limited access to the computer so that when we have people over, now, I can't able to carry anything as an admin if I right click on the menu on the icons. I am also unable to install new programs. The console command does not work for me to do that either, net user administrator / Active: Yes, just gives me an error code.

No luck. I tried to start in safe mode. The computer turns off automatically, and I had to make a fix to start. I now think I need to do a full reset, but did not have my vista copy from when I bought this computer. Is there a way to get a new copy without having to buy a new set of software?

Call the manufacturer of your computer. Request a set of recovery disks. Total cost is minimal, and it's a set that you should / must have.

The set allows to restore your computer.

Sure, if you are able to back up files that you want to keep before launching the recovery disks.

  • Limit the control panel and IE for the Standard user account

I'll set up a new computer for a 91 year old customer in a retirement home, who don't use the computer for e-mail and an occasional Wordpad document.  His son wants to put computer in place so that it cannot get to the Internet Explorer browser, or go to control panel, because he bumbles around the keyboard causing all sorts of problems requiring frequent service for me calls.

The operating system is Windows Vista Home BASIC, so gpedit.msc is not installed.  I have activated the system administrator account for my use when I am called to repair the computer and set the Standard user to user account.  The problem is that the only way I found to disable IE and the Control Panel causes them be turned off in BOTH accounts.  I wish I could disable them ONLY in the user account.

The only solution I found to disable the control panel is a registry hack in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current versionpolicies where I put a DWORD 32-bit "NoControlPanel" with a value of 1.  I tried to do that in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive, but it had no effect.  This kind of work, but there are two problems then; Mises_a_jour Windows 1) won't install and 2) when I have to go to work on the computer, I first change administrator user, then change the DWORD value to 0 and finally to restart the computer, causing additional assignments, lengthen my time at work.

Second, the only solution I could find to disable IE was in the default protrams Panel, which disables the administrator as well.

Can someone tell me if there is another way to achieve this, while IE and control panel are disabled only for the user?

Change the security to the IE executable rights? Remove 'Users', while you keep the administrator rights.

For control panel see 'Method Two' in this link:

Thanks for your response, but will not solve problem of this "gentleman". The object is not so much to limit internet access, as it should restrict access to programs.  He is 91 years old, has small hands and types rapidly with two fingers, but made many mistakes.  Disability is before everything to prevent clikety snap everywhere, because he creates sort of a zillion copies shortcuts of the webpage on his desk, until everything hangs and I have to go a push up on his mess. The same reason applies to the Contorl Panel.  We don't want it to be able to get to the Panel "printers."  When a document will not be printed for a reason, he go, dummy click around and created a bunch of copies of the printer, with a gazillian of documents clogged up in the queue of the coil.  I had to cclear up to 100 documents from the spool on 50 copies printer queue.  It's really an economic problem for his son.

  • new applications appearing is not in the standard user profile

HI, as the administrator when I add an app on my profile it used to also be seen on the standard profile as well. However, now for some don't reason any program I install appears on the standard user profile, anyone know why and how to solve this problem? I am running MS windows 7 Home premium.

    Thanks in advance

Some programs will give you an option to have a shortcut placed in only the current account or all accounts during the installation of the program.

If not, and when it does not automatically create a shortcut for all users, you could manually create a shortcut in the program .exe file on the Start Menu all the location of users for all users to have the shortcut.

    (Option 2 below)
Start menu all programs - add or remove shortcuts

    1. what happens when you try to access the Internet from the standard user account?

You can check if there are parental controls together to prevent the user to access the Internet. You can see the bottom of the article for more information on this:

Y at - it a registry key to check if the current user can install a windows updates? also, what registry key that is used to verify whether a user is an administrator or not. Thank you...

There is no need to check the registry keys to see if you can install updates or not.

You just need to be connected to an administrator account to install the Windows updates.

You can check if you are in an administrator account by trying taks simple administrattor. For example. Try to change the time system.

If you can change the time, you are an administrator; no other.

  • Howw can I use extensions I have installed as the admin for a standard user account? When I go on my Add ons under the standard user, no script is not an option. Thank you

Hi, I'm using Vista and Firefox 3.6. I installed some popular addons such as no script and the web page of the trust for the admin account, but when I connect under the standard account with fewer rights, I do not have them available. The only way I can get to run is to right click and run as administrator which defeats the purpose to log on as a standard user. Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Standard user can connect to the new network wireless only in local mode - no Internet pass through by the router.

My wife now takes a laptop (HP Pavilion) with her on a business trip.  The computer that runs Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2 with all updates.  I have his set as a standard user account, just to keep him out of trouble.  However, with his own account, it can connect to a new wireless network, like a hotel or business she visits could offer.  But, invariably, she gets access 'local only' - no pass Internet through connectivity.  I had to give him the information of my account as an administrator, and then she is able to connect without difficulty.

Of course, this isn't an ideal situation - standard user must be able to connect to the Internet through a new wireless network.  Otherwise, I should be able to change his account in such a way that it can be given to this authority without necessarily opening the entire system and its related vulnerabilities.

  • How can I configure the standard user profile in the impossibility to use the command prompt on windows7

My teen age son knows how to get into the command prompt and use the computer as an administrator temporarily... How can I stop this?  It has a standard user account.

On the flavors below, you must edit the registry directly by creating the value of HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System! DisableCMD.

How to change the registry? I need more specific measures.

    Thank you
    Kathy
This is not a trivial process for non trained. Also note that open a command prompt does NOT give your son of additional privileges unless he knows the password for an administrator account.
Please note that if you skip any step then you may have a machine that won't start longer.
    1. Burn a CD to repair Windows via Control Panel / backup and restore.
    2. Test this boot the machine with her CD in the repair of Windows.
    3. Label this CD as "Repair Windows CD", then store it in a safe place.
    4. Start normally. Logging in as an administrator account.
    5. Create a Restore Point.
    6. Log in under your son's account.
    7. Click on the Globe to start, and then type regedit.exe and press ENTER. Enter the credentials of the administrator in case of dispute.
    8. HKey_Current_User\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows-access
    9. If there is no windows system key, create it:
Click Edit / new / key, type system, and then press ENTER.
    10. Click on the key to the system.
    11. Click Edit / new / DWord, and then type the letters DisableCMD and press Enter.
    12. Double-click the DisableCMD value, and then type 1 in the data field and press ENTER.
    13. Try to open a command prompt. You should get a message of "deny".
  • No Option of account Type change under user ID-want to change of Admin for the Standard user

Hi, we have a Vista Home Premium system.  One of the children has received this PC and they are as an administrator with no other users.  Later, I added myself as admin and wanted to change the children as a standard user account type, but there is no option to change account type under their username.  I don't want to change the names where I am the initial administrator and the new standard user are children because they already have a bunch of stuff under their original admin username.  ((1) why I do not see the option to change account type and 2) how to change their standard account type so I can use controls parents?  Thank you!

I want to tell you that if the computer has 1 account only, it will be the default Administrator account and change the standard account type will be gray.

However, you can create a new user account and set a new one as a standard account.
