  I have an imac 2013 end running the most recent El Capitan. My brand new extended USB keyboard stopped working with the computer. Genius Bar had no idea what was going on so they replaced the new keyboard with another new keyboard. I did LANDAU restarts with no positive effect. I took the computer and we couldn't reproduce the problem restart and shutdown and reboot... so they did a reformat on the computer, reinstall the operating system and the computer has been wiped clean. Home and after 3-4 weeks the keyboard problem was again does not. So, I found this thread... Thank you. New USB keyboards that you buy now have a short extension. I threw this side did not know why he was there... I got it all the time. The Genius Bar only did me not know I needed. I thought it was to plug OTHER THINGS and not for the keyboard... so I feel stupid. Why this problem with the extension? Why Apple people ignored it tell me?   I can hazard a guess why the keyboard works best with the extension. It can be without it, the cable is too short and shoot the connection enough to disconnect. It's just a guess.

  Hi, I cleaned the dust from my computer yesterday for the first time because the computer kept crashing. I removed the motherboard, so I unplugged everything that was clinging to her and I also removed the hard drive then plugged everything once I had finished, (do not know if I just plugged in as it was, even if I took a video of it, but the wasen can't good quality so I had to guess a little). I also added thermal compound to the cpu.

  Anyway, everyhting seems to work except the 2 usb ports front of the case. It was working fine until I opened the case (this is why I do not open the computers, but the dust was just too). The audio ports and microphone located in the front work correctly. And the rear USB ports are working properly.

  What I've done so far is running pilot Booster and also I went to Device Manager > USB Bus controllers, then I turned off everything on the list, then allowed them again. And nothing has worked.

  I don't know much about computers so I don't want to go to the hassle of opening the case cause once again I was scared lol but could I maybe hooked up a cable in the port of fake?

  Also, is there a diagram to show where each cable goes to the a6554f model?

  As you pointed out the audio before and MIC ports are working, then it might be just the plug for the ports before USB is not properly or is in the wrong place.  Here is a page that relates to the motherboard. In the lower right corner of the image or the page layout scheme, there are two blocks header before normally taken into USB ports.  Says F_USB1 and F_USB2.  Either we must work to the front ports.  Check to make sure that the wiring box beam (which has the wires going to the front USB ports) is connected on one of them.

  I have more or less of work Satellite Pro 4270 (4200 Series) computer laptop with XP on it.

  I have a BOUNCING problem with usb ports on my qosmio g50-10 h.
  There are two ports on the right side of the machine and I have 2 self-powered 7 centers of port (usb 2) attached to these.

  Every now and then to stop it from ports and of course all the parts a unregcognised, not found.
  I get error messages saying unregognised device or usb device stopped working or windows stopped device etc.

  Unplug the hub and repluging it ususally actually come back to life.

  any ideas?

  Have you tried to connect devices directly to the USB port?
  Try this and see if the USB device is disconnected, as you mentioned that using the external USB hub.

  Try resetting the USB ports. This means that you need to remove the USB ports/hubs/controllers in Device Manager.
  Then, you have to restart the laptop to get new USB ports.
  In my case it has worked.

  By the way; I recommend upgrading the chipset driver and disable the feature for each energy-saving usb port.
  This can be done in the Device Manager-> port USB-> properties-> tab to save energy

  A lighting strike is not good news, if she gets hit by a kind something can go wrong. My guess is that your laptop USB ports has taken suddenly by a massive power surge that probably damaged the chips inside. It could be a Windows problem, or not the only thing I could suggest is to use a bootable Linux such as Knoppix CD and run a command called usbview with some USB devices.
  If the USB has been confirmed dead then your only option is to use an adapter CardBus USB 2.0 providing your CardBus slot is not damaged too.
