Why Windows 7 displays an incorrect amount of free disk space / used on my DVD - RW drive?

Why Windows 7 displays an incorrect amount of free disk space / used on my DVD - RW drive?

Windows 7 can show the incorrect amount of free and used space in serious DVD - RW or DVD + RW media properties.  After burning data on the disk, Windows 7 could show that there are 0 bytes of used space and free space available on the disk capacity.  In reality, the amount of used and free space on the disk is reversed.

Reading your question a little more in detail, I doubt if you are using the Win32 GetDiskFreeSpace API function (including my previous post is the solution) of the function GetDiskSpace from the Toolbox of the programmer.

With respect to the other, it works even with capacity greater than 2 GB disks, but you must use the appropriate formatting code to display the returned value. I updated my example to display the total of free space in the debug output window and added a comparison with the value of 3 GB using UInt64TypeCompareUInt box to tools programming interface.

Hi guys I found that my windows folder takes a lot of my disk space. It takes 31 GB of my C: / drive... .and I saw on other computers just 15 and 16 GB of disk space. I also found that Winsxs is taking up to 18 GB 31 GB of the windows folder. Can you please tell me what can I do for this problem all...

Investigating disk space use to download, install and run Treesize (freeware) as an administrator.

    http://www.Jam-software.com/treesize_free/

Place a Treesize shortcut on your desktop, right-click on the icon and select run as administrator to open Treesize. You must run as administrator to see all the files. If you do not see the content of the System Volume Information folder you have not run Treesize as administrator.

    Information about Treesize

When you open Treesize scan select in the Menu and you will see a list of drives. Click on C and it will generate a list of files. Display the names and sizes of the larger 6 under windows folders.

Personally, I would be interested to see what disk management says on the disc. Right click on my computer > choose manage. In the left pane, click "disk management". The content will grow in the right pane. Make a written note or a screen shot showing both used and free space.

  • Free disk space in the Windows Explorer status bar.

In Windows 7, I wonder how to display disk space is free in the Windows Explorer. In XP, you could see how much space was free down in the status bar. He would say how objects and disk space that was free. How can I activate this in Windows 7?

Return to the root that particular drive is annoying, when I should be able to see how much free space I have for any folder.

    Thank you.

These 2 features have been removed from the latest version of windows and really help to speed up the use of every day:

Display the amount of free space
Display of the total size of the files in folders.

How this two features can be added to the status bar?

  • Windows 7 seems to take more disk space than expected on the C:\ drive

Original title: size of windows 7 the disk

I installed windows 7, 64 bit on my machine.

I have made 3 partitions: C = 100 GB and the rest of the form 1 TB disk space divided in two other partitions. (those who have files it contains)

Now, when I go to the COMPUTER, with windows (C) says that he has only 47 GB free which means windows takes more than 50 GB. But when I go on the content of this partition and see the size you of files... It shows only 12 GB, and there is no hidden inside folder.

Can someone help me with this? Thank you

Windows 7 uses about 8 to 10 GB of disk space.

Click Start, type: advanced system settings

    Press enter on your keyboard

Go to the System Protection tab

    Click Configure system restore

Make sure that the system restore does not use too much disk space.

Use the wheel to reduce the amount of disk space.

In addition, the amount of RAM you have installed, it will take more disk space for paging, hibernation, and dump files.

  • The amount of available disk space keeps fluctuating.

I returned from more than 20 GB of space available Tuesday to 2 MB Wednesday, up to 702 MB, up to 100 KB, then back to 200 MB. Is this a virus? I ran several scans of varioud virus and nothing was found, but I see no other reason for the significant loss of disk space. I am running XP with Norton as my antivirus.

    Hi LostinCyberSpaceMD,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. What is the correct disk space showing in disk management?
    3. You have installed any new software, and programs on the computer?

    Method 1
See the link below and try the steps mentioned, check if it helps.
How to make a computer faster: 6 ways to speed up your PC
    http://www.Microsoft.com/atwork/maintenance/speed.aspx

    Method 2
If the previous step fails, then check if the problem persists in the safe mode and after return with the result.
A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

    Method 3
If the problem does not persist in safe mode, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.
I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

  • Why Windows 7 won't remember my Desktop Slideshow setting after using Remote Desktop for it?

Probably need Windows 7 Professional or better to do, I don't remember what editions have Remote Desktop.
I really love using the Windows 7 with desktop slideshow feature. I have a very large amount of funds in a folder of wallpapers which I configured my 'theme' customization which is supposed to spend on a daily basis.
Usually, the scenery change as they are supposed to, but very quickly, I noticed that once school started, the same background blocked for awhile. After resetting the setting time and time again, I noticed that the background changes is no longer after that I used another machine remotely in this machine.
While I understand why turn off desktop slideshow arrives for remote desktop, why didn't he re - turn on desktop slideshow after disconnecting the remote session?
    Steps to reproduce:
Computer 1: Turn on Desktop Slideshow in customization (Customize, wallpaper, choose a background screen, use fill as a position of the image, change image daily 1, mixed). Save the changes. Save this theme with any name, for example 'the mine'.
Computer 1: right-click on the desktop: notice that she has 'Next wallpaper' from the context menu.
2 (Windows XP) computer: Remote Desktop connection to connect to computer 1.
Computer 2: Close the Office connection remotely using the [X] button on the title bar of masking (disconnection without disconnection).
Computer 1: Connect on your computer.
Computer 1: right-click on the desktop: note that the "next wallpaper" is MISSING from the context menu.
Computer 1: If you go to the customization, the current theme will be unsaved theme that uses the last wallpaper, but don't use a Desktop Slideshow.
This should not happen. He should go immediately to my previous theme, or even if I do not save the theme, it must return to the original values that was there before the use of remote desktop.
Does anyone else know this? Is there a solution? Or am I doomed to have constantly changing my theme daily until Microsoft fixes this (If they decide to)?
    I use Windows 7 Professional build 7600 x 64 (MSDNAA image).

  • Quickly lose massive amounts of HARD disk space

I'm currently running OS X 10.10.4... Mid 2012 MBP 2.3 GHZ Intel Core i7... 4 GB of Ram... 500 GB HARD drive provided with the machine.

That's the problem more annoying, I had to date.

My machine consumes a huge amount of space HDD without apparent reason. When I say huge, I mean 2 days ago that I deleted a ton of space (64 GB of free space)... last night, I was up to 125 MB of free space. That's when I got a little freaked out. I removed another 12 GB of space, and now I'm down to 2 GB available.

I have attached two photos of Activity Monitor... I can't understand what is happening...

My computer had a kernel panic, not too long ago, and earlier today, I got start in single user mode and run the repair disk (fsck - fy).

    Need help bad...

As I wrote the post, I'm now up to 1.2 GB...

  • I have windows XP, runs a low disk space and must remove programas in free disk space. Which?

The computer is running really slow, drive Local (C) asks me to free up space for better performance. I don't know what to delete or remove my NetBook.

I ' like to leave the default settings from the factory.  What should I do?

    Thank you.

    Hello

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

Optimize your computer for maximum performance.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Two Windows XP OS on PC (media Ctr & Pro). Which you want to remove as appropriate? If this is not the case, how can I free disk space?

I have currently appears I have two OS on my pc.  A XP Media Center and a professional XP.  At the start, I select XP Media Center and it works fine.  My problem is that the files in the second version of the OS that seems to have been filed in a folder titled Windows2 do I need?  If not, how to remove the second version or at least release the 7 GB of space it occupies?

To remove either, start pc in that you want, once in xp, go to run,

    type: diskmgmt.msc

MSC, you should see the operating system on a different partition, R.click on it & delete, or

Select this option to format the partition. I imagine that media center is on by default C:

letter, so remove XP pro or pro ends up on a letter, not by default C: which he

should be on... To start from scratch, you need to start on an xp installation cd, press the r key

to the recovery console, once in recovery, type: DiskPart in DiskPart, delete all partitions.

Create one, press the key type, ESC: EXIT cd reboot XP, select install xp, choose format, the

    rest is auto

  • I have Windows XP and I'm trying to upload pictures and video to a DVD in drive D. Can you help me with directions?

I have a mini DVD in the "D" drive and need to transfer it to "my pictures".  Help, please!

Just be able to drag and drop files onto the hard drive.
It is a mini dvd, I assume that it came from a dvd camcorder.
These discs must be finalized in the camcorder before it can be used in a computer.
If this isn't the case, explain more about the problem, as in, what happens when you try to drag and drop, you can see the files on the drive where the disc came etc..
