Why Windows sharing the default ' Users' directory?

After using "change advanced sharing settings" to share the Public folder with anyone on the network in the networking and sharing Center, I noticed that my 'User' directory is now shared.

What is the purpose for this and it that bad I have no shared it and shared manually as the Public folder?
I did it on all my computers networked. This cause will come into conflict in the future for things such as home group sharing, etc.?
Thanks for any input.

  • Customize the default user profile in Windows 7

    Hi all

"With our XP pool view we could make all our customizations you made to the image of the master then go in" System Properties "->"Advanced"->"User profiles"and copy the profile of the user of the model in the folder"Default User"hidden under"C:\Documents and Settings"and all new domain users who have logged in our pool of non-persistent linked clone would get all the customizations... nice and easy.

With Windows 7, the option to copy the profile is grayed out. To work around this problem, we found that we could use sysprep and that it points to a file with the option < CopyProfile > unattend.xml and need customizations, realize you the local administrator and copy them into the C:\Users\Default user profile. Here is the command that we would run

    C:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe/OOBE/redemarrer / generalize /unattend:c:\scripts\unattend.xml

Subsequently he will reactivate the local administrator account, but it worked well... until we realized that we could only run sysprep about 3 times and then we would have a limit trying to rearm! Has anyone found an easy way to customize the default user profile without falling on these issues?

We tried to make as many customization we can with group policy, but we seem to have hit a wall

  • How to customize the default user profile in Windows 7?

I changed all my preferences for how I want the start menu, background etc to look at, and I wish that every new user to have the same look. Can I change the default user profile?

    Can of course. Try this:
    1. turn your environment exactly as you wish.
    2. restart the computer in Mode safe.
    3. log on as an administrator.
    4 rename the c:\Users\Default user c:\Users\Default User.org folder
    5. rename the folder c:\Users\Phil c:\Users\Default user (assuming that "Phil" matches your profile folder).
    6. give everyone read access to c:\Users\Default user
    7. create a new account, and then sign under this account to test.

  • What is the default user name and password of the dynamically created edge NSX gateway?

    Hello

I created a NAT device on request and as part of it, but an edge gateway. What is the default user name and password to connect to the edge device?

    Thank you

I do not know the password by default, but you can either define easily. Just go to the network security &--> NSX edges, select your edge, click actions and identification of Climate change information. You can also enable SSH from there.

  • Why is not, the default button of Firefox for Windows XP?

I know that the Firefox button can be displayed on Windows XP too by hiding the menu bar. But why is it not by default? If Windows XP users do not know that the Firefox button can be demonstrated by hiding the menu bar, they will not only not be able to access the Firefox button but also, will not be able to take advantage of tabs on titlebar. Describe why it is not default Mozilla?

AW hell, I'm a true dufuss. And I thought that strange taste in my mouth was to smoke too many this morning: it's toe-jam. I have a screen wide screen and rarely ever run Firefox enlarged - didn't see the tabs in the title bar.

Yes, it's weird that the Firefox button is not the default on XP.

Some of the original user files became corrupt, in order not to lose all the files, we have created a new user on the same computer.  Now, when we remove the user name and files, original when the computer restarts, we cannot go back... I wrote a longer version of the recommendation that Frederik Long has given you and then deleted because I'm not sure that I fully understand your situation.

If you can get into Windows, then follow the advice of Frederik long.

If you are unable to Windows, what do you see when you start the computer?  In other words, don't you see the Welcome screen with one or more of the icons for user accounts?  If there is only one icon and it's a 'completely different' user name this is the old name you deleted?  If not, what is?

  • How to set up certificates for the default user profile

I'm trying to create a package to install Firefox in our corporate environment that contains our locally-issued certificates. We can manually import the certs, but since Firefox is part of our brand, I would like to have the certificates already installed for users they open FF for the first time.

I wrote a script that installs Firefox 22, copy custom files in the correct location files, creates a new profile folder (C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile) and copy the file cert8.db in that newly created file. However, when a user opens FF for the first time, none of our certificates are installed. If I close FF, copy the file cert8.db even in the .default file C:\Users\ < username > \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ < random string > and then reopen FF, CERT now show as installed upward.

How can I automate this so that each user who opens FF will have implemented CERT?

This is for the initial installation of Firefox.

    Windows 7, 64-bit

Hello keslaa, since firefox 21 & upward this information would need to go to % ProgramFiles(x86) %\Mozilla Firefox\browser\defaults\profile in order to take effect.

  • Cannot change the default installation directory (missing ProgramFilesDir)

I'm changing the default installation on my computer directory.  I looked at the number of threads here that cover the topic.  I go to regedit and follow this path: 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion' but I can't find the value 'ProgramFilesDir.' "  It's on Windows 7, 64-bit.

Your much more course using the option 'tailor-made' for each program you want to install. Most of the applications have this option. Change the system variable or the registry entry can cause other issues, you may not like.

  • Delete the default user folder

I recently bought a new laptop and give my old one to my son. I would like to change the user folder by default of my name to his, but am unable to do so. I created a new folder of the user with his name and copied all the default files and folders inside. The old folder of the user who was my original default folder is empty, but when I try to delete, the message window indicates that windows is 14.3 GB of content recycling and then did not finish remove it because it indicates also the folder is open and in-use. I'm afraid that my old (default) user folder and the new are linked somehow, and if I managed to remove an old, I can finish to remove all. Can someone help me complete the process correctly?

Sorry, you're going to have about it the wrong way. The "Default" folder is a model that is used for all new accounts. Do not delete and and you should not change it unless you know exactly what you are doing. When you create a new account (for example, 'John') and log in under him for the first time then what follows is done automatically:

    1. A profile file c:\Users\John is created.
    2. The content of the default folder is copied to c:\Users\John.
There is no need to make a copy. Let Windows do its job instead!

    Hi Tom,

Create a new profile on the computer and check if the problem persists. If this is not the case, the other profile is corrupt. To create a new user profile, you can see the article mentioned below for the procedure.
