Will be iMovie (4K) work on early 2009 iMac?

2.66 core duo Intel of El Capitan 10.11.4. Graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB. Update soon to 8G of RAM. I read that playback is jerky. What can I do to make this work? Thank you.

Your Mac does not support the 4K video in iMovie.   See: Edit and share videos with iMovie - Apple Support 4 K

who says:

4K editing and sharing with iMovie for Mac is supported on Mac computers of 2011 or later with at least 4 GB of memory.

  • What SSD for early 2009 imac?

    Hello

I have a question to choose the good ssd for my imac 7y/o (9.1) since early 2009.

I found a few good SSD as the samsung 840 BX100 or critical, but I've also read several times that a ssd sata3 will use sata1 when installed on a sata2.

And that is why it is better to install a sata2 ssd.

IS that still the case today? Given that these messages are coming from 2013.

Or is that I can put in an ssd sata3 and it will run on sata2?

    Kind regards

    Ivo

SATA III drives that use the Sandforce controller will come back to SATA I speed if installed on a computer that uses the Nvidia MCP79 SATA controller. Samsung does not Sandforce. My Macbook in early 2009 with a Samsung 840 (pre Evo, not Pro) negotiates the SSD SATA II speed, connected to the MCP79.  OWC also still sells SATA II disks, I have one in my late 2009 iMac. I chose this drive, even if it was more expensive because OWC insisted that my model should have the Nvidia controller but in reality it has controller Intel 5 series. I didn't take my iMac except more than once.

  • Early 2009 iMac running hot. Hard drive problem?

    Hello world

    I have an early 2009 24 "iMac. (iMac9, 1, 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). I am currently using OS X 10.11.4.

This problem started, summer 2014. My iMac has been in storage a year since March 2015. Here's the problem, when it started it was summer and very hot. I didn't have air conditioning. I got this iMac from April 2011. Bought from Mac of all trades. Obviously, they heat up on top, or at least this one does. The hard drive is a Western Digital WDC WD1001FALS-40K1B0, 1 TB drive.

At the point where I was running DiskWarrior, who reported that my hard drive was running too hot. The reader otherwise verified fine and so I downloaded Fans of Mac control, looked up what the operating temperature should be for this hard drive and set it to increase the fan speed, if necessary. Now 5182 rpm, it turns the hard drive cooling fan, and he reports 127,4 ° F. The room temperature is 82.4 °.

Now, let's move forward to this last week. I've had my Mac for storage, he had been in the garage of a friend of year-round, is his box. From the beginning it upward, it froze soon after establishing the office. I started on the recovery partition, and DiskUtility found that it could not solve problems. So I started from the eDrive TechTool Pro partition and run DiskWarrior. That was fine until the computer froze again. To reboot the partition e could not climb. The recovery partition would enter to Midway through the boot process and then hang. It's the same problem I was trying to start normally.

So after a long day of trying everything (I don't have a disc of starting of any kind, that I still have stuff in storage), the Mac finally started in the recovery partition. I ended up having to reformat the hard drive, make a new installation of 10.11 and restoration of my Time Machine backup.

After another day of tweaking, everything worked fine. Except the drive is always hot.

Today, it's back to freezing on me. I started the eDrive and TechTool Pro check sensors and generate a SMART report. The SMART report verified the reader, but watch it turns slightly on the warm side. And that was with the fans to run fast.

Then, after all that, I'll try to get an opinion on the health of the hard drive. If I put the fans for normal speed, now it is 2638 rpm and increase, and the reader is 138.2 ° F. This seems too hot for me. You can't touch the top of the computer for a long time. It is too hot.

Run the Apple Hardware Test disk two of your original grey install set.

  • More high graphics card Possible for early 2009 Mac Pro

As the title suggests, I have an early 2009 Mac Pro with 12 GB of RAM.

I want to update my graphics card to something better and I have no idea of what I put in the card. Ideally, I would like to put the last possible graphics card that is compatible for this.

I don't know what I would look for PCI or PCI - e and what diet I would look for that would support such a computer "arcane".

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Best wishes

    Sergio

the 2009 mac 4.1 pro can be upgraded to a number of current spare cards from Nvidia and AMD, but in many cases the cards require custom flashing of the Distributor and custom drivers. You need to buy a card with a distributor of mac because versions "Windows" of these cards will not work out of the box and OS X will not support without 3rd party drivers. This procedure is not recommended by apple that would rather you buy a new mac pro and again I want to say something for $5K, which offers the latest GPU is already 3 years old.

research on the Web "Mac Pro 4.1 GPU" for more details.

  • Can I connect 1080 p TV 48 "to my iMac in early 2009

If I use a mini port screen hdmi adapter, can I connect a TV external 48 "1080 p on my iMac in early 2009.

EveryMac.com seems to say there is a limit of 30 ", but they throw in some dimensions of the screen of

    2600 x 1600 and I don't know how this fits - I get my TV is 1080 p - 1920 x 1200?

    Any clarification would be appreciated.

Take a look-> On Mini DisplayPort to HDMI - Apple Support adapters

You shouldn't have any problem due to the size of your TV, but more probably to the resolution of your TV. However, your iMac supports up to 2560 x 1600 resolution for an external display and your TV got a lower resolution (1920 x 1080), so it should work.

(Please note that your iMac does not support streaming audio via the Mini DisplayPort connector, then you will not get audio on your TV).

  • early 2009 macbook

Can I upgrade to el capitan?

Without knowing more about the MacBook "early 2009, or the configuration of your model"

between the hard drive and the amount of RAM memory capacity or free/unused disk capacity,

Perhaps the answer is a number.

According to this article, it shows the technical specifications for El Capitan, more vintage limits:

    • OS X El Capitan - technical specifications

    • OS X - how to upgrade:

    https://www.Apple.com/OSX/how-to-upgrade/

Some features of Mac OS X 10.11.x will not work on older hardware. And no upgrade to a fully

new system should start with a full backup of your files and additional TimeMachine

backup; Some people also prefer to make a full clone of the previous set of OS X and test

to be sure get back to you on that if you found that the computer did not upgrade.

    • How to identify MacBook - Apple Support models

If you have a bigger hard drive and it shows have lots of extra free unused

capacity, it may be possible to create a partition in some of these capabilities, disk utility

to install the new OS X system as a test. In this way, the other oldest will not be compromised.

Usually old hardware configurations may work more slowly with a new OS X installed. Some

users found that a brand new facility can do OK; others, not so much. There are two other

systems available but not from the App Store directly. instead of buying Apple

Online store. It's 10.7 and 10.8 Mountain Lion Lion. Either sells for about $20.

on the Apple Online Store, then a redemption code is used to download from the App Store.

You might want to research their attributes (and Lion is the type of a dog, some said) if

your Mac can run El Capitan 10.11, it can also run Cougar 10.8.5. You don't need

buy either 10.7 or 10.8 get El Capitan for free; but your old OS X applications can or

cannot do OK in Mt Lion 10.8.5. Don't forget to learn how to make an offline copy of the

more recent installers for OS X, since you can save time. everything is now online. One offline

competition from backup to restore from clones and TimeMachine files can be very useful later.

Examples of replacement hardware or upgrade:

    http://eShop.MacSales.com/shop/PowerBook-iBook-MacBook/

With the new OS X, you will need to consider further applications (purchase the App

Store) if they were too old to run directly in the last OS X. They can do OK in 10.8.5.

Lion mountain at the Apple Store:

    http://www.Apple.com/shop/product/D6377Z/A/OS-x-mountain-lion

The Cougar 10.8(.5) looks more like the older snow leopard; some of

those looking to upgrade and install a new OS X in their Mac have generally or are considering

new iPad, iPhone or other devices that may be dragging them forward for a new iOS and

a new OSX (so they can share, synchronize and so on) but if you don't need an upgrade for that

reason, you have options. And the computer can do better with more RAM and a

larger capacity replacement hard drive. Also, be sure to make several backups.

    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can I put my 24 inch Dual Core IMac (early 2009) 4 GB ddr3 1067 Mhz RAM to 16 GB ddr3 1600 Mhz (it says maximum of 8 GB for this model)?

Can I upgrade my 24 inch Dual Core IMac (early 2009) 4 GB ddr3 1067 Mhz RAM 16 GB ddr3 1600 Mhz? I read that it only can be upgraded to a maximum of 8 GB but I'm not sure whether that was when they were sold or if the maximum capacity of the computer can take.

    Thank you for your help,

    Jacques Bizot

You can upgrade the RAM, but 16 GB ddr3 1600 Mhz is NOT designed for your iMac. Please use the RAM specifications correct, iMacs are extremely sensitive to the RAM and require the correct specifications and high quality RAM. Advanced users on these forums tend to recommend Crucial (buy directly from them) or if you are in the USA, RAM from OWC (www.macsales.com).

Do not buy RAM in your store, the local computer or cheap RAM at best, it's probably a waste of time and at worst it will simply not work.

  • Early 2009 MacBook SSD compatibility

Hello. My MacBook is early 2009 with 2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB of RAM, 120 GB hard drive. Now OS x 10.6.8 but intend to upgrade to El Capitan.

I want to spend my hard drive to a Solid State Drive. Transcend SSD370S series is available in my place.

Can I use the SSD of 256 GB of this series on my MacBook with no problems?

Here is the link for the site of Transcend. Compatibility list on their Web site does not include Apple laptops.

    http://www.transcend-info.com/products/no-631

    Thank you.

I have a Macbook in early 2009 and put a Samsung (pre Evo) 840 SSD inside and the speed is incredible, it feels like a brand new computer. Your Macbook has a Nvidia MCP79 SATA 3 Gb/s controller and there is a conflict between the controllers on some SSD only allowing them to operate to SATA 1.5 Gb/s, so you must be careful 6 Gbps. The conflict I know with certainty is with SSD using a Sandforce controller, but recently posted one here in their car with a controller Marvell only running at half speed so there may be others. TranSend uses what they call a TS6500, which is actually a renamed SiliconMotion SM2246EN controller and I can't find the evedience either way if it will work with the SATA 3 Gb speed with the Nvidia controller. Confused yet? I think that the essential is that we put 2015 (2016 ok) technology in 2009 computers and computer terms this year 6 scale is enormous, there may be incompatibilities. Probably the BEST way to avoid is to find a 3Gb SSD or a 6 GB SSD that is guaranteed to work in your Macbook. OWC has a line of 3 GB disks, which are more expensive but guaranteed to work http://eshop.macsales.com/

If you have to pay a little more to get a compatible drive, it is well worth. Add SSD to my Macbook and my iMac end of 2009 were the best computer improvements I've ever done.

  • Future of the Mac Mini early 2009

    Hello

I have a Mac Mini early 2009 with the following specifications:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26 GHz

    6 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

    NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB

    OS X 10.11.1

I mainly work with Adobe CC2015: applications InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. For most 2D design. I know, for my work, the RAM is important as well as the HARD drive. I could be wrong. At this stage I do not know whether to invest in a new Mac Mini, or try adding more RAM to it and perhaps a better HARD drive. I noticed that Seagate launches new SSHD which combine the speed of an SSD with a HARD drive storage.

To get a better understanding of me thinking, I always try to do my best with what I have. Five years ago, when I started this business I was actually using a PPC G4 with Adobe CS3. Two years later, I bought a G5 and run Adobe CS4. Now, three years ago since I have computer yhis in my service and I am very happy that she. However, I noticed that started pretty slow when several applications are running (i.e.Safari with a tracking application recording time, MS Word, InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop and Excel). Last project, I have had has been great with the 200 Mb InDesign files. It took minutes to package a project make my productivity calving. Otherwise, it works great.

Bottom line will be how quickly it became too old to be in my service?

It would make a difference at this stage to add little extra RAM, buy a new HARD drive and decommissioning maybe my OS to OS X 10.10 maximum or even OS X 10.9?

It will make a big difference between my Mac Mini and a new Mac Mini with processor 1.4 GB, 8 GB of RAM and a 1.5 GB video card?

Any advice would be much appreciate it.

    Kind regards

    Sebastian

Your Mac supports 8 GB or RAM, so ranging from 6 to 8 GB help only a little but will help.

Replacing the Rotary HD with a SSD will really help. It is not hard to do. Because SSDS are relatively inexpensive no, I wouldn't go with a hybrid car.

    1.4 GHz, Min 2014 has a 64 bit, multi-core of the note of 5341

Score of your Mini is 2278

Thus, the 2014 will be much faster.

I don't see any real advantage to downgrade the OSX version

No, your early 2009 is too old. The first iMacs that could be used are models 27 "late 2009 through the use of your iMac as a display with the target - Apple Support Display Mode

  • What is the speed for OS 10.10 on 13-inch, early 2009

My 13-inch, Early 2009 MacBook runs with OS 10.9.5 basically OK on speed, and it's a very good, loaded with the fine software is useful but old and slow sometimes with all additional popups and deflect and is very nervous about the links I don't want and mail that I didn't delete.

The system is pushing me to the update/update 10.10 and I continue to resist the Apple push, the fear of losing what I have and I'm really happy with.

I was looking for the answer among existing similar concerns, but did not get the simple answer and clear what will I win by the new OS 10.10.

My fear is real or just scared?

Apple has removed 10.10.5 and 10.11.5 from the App Store, so only your option upgrade is 10.12.
