Windos 7 recognizes only 2.5 g 4g memory

I installed on the system from loder (dell XPS Gen 5) to windows 7. I had upgraded the memory to the maximum of 4 Gig authorized. The machine recognizes 4 but said only 2.5 can be used. I understand that the windows 7 32 bit OS has this limitation. Can I install the 64 bit on 32-bit version? What determines which version can be installed on a machine. I used the 32-bit version just because I was running XP and thought that was appropriate.

Changing from 32-bit to 64-bit requires that you do a complete reinstall of Windows 7 and you will lose all programs and have reinstall you all the applications.

Since you say that your computer is an older computer, it maybe isn't capable of running 64-bit Windows. As far as memory goes, 32-bit processes more than 2.5 GB, usually around 3.25 GB and the remains of memory can be used by you video which is not bad either.

You're probably better to just stick with the 4 GB you have installed and leave things because you're not going to see a performance difference between 32 and 64 bit with only 4 GB of memory.

I know that XP pro recognize only 3, 5 GB, but why, 2, 99 GB? I have no understeand that.
It is the memory used for video preformance?

    Hello

    > I know that XP pro recognizes only 3, 5 GB, but why, 2, 99 GB? I don't understand this.
    > It's the little memory used for video performance?

Yes, the 32-bit OS recognize only 3.2 GB of RAM. It is not uncommon that the 32 bits of the operating system
The 210MB seems to be dedicated to the memory of the graphics card and therefore the Windows XP can use only 2.99 GB.

  • Satellite A100 PSAA2A - BIOS recognize only 1 GB of RAM after upgrade

    Hello

    I have a Satellite A100 PSAA2A. RAM is up to 2GB (2 slots).
    Now, I have 256MB + 512 MB (Kingston KVR533D2/S4/512) total = 768 MB (Samsung 256 MB DDRII 533FSB).
    It works well

    I want to improve my RAM. I've got Kingston KTT533D2 / 1 G
    I have 512 MB + 1024 MB = 1.5 GB

I removed 256 MB to 1 GB. Now she has 512 MB and 1024 MB
But BIOS recognizes only 1 GB (Windows XP as well). I changed my slot machines, a different combination made - always 1 GB (not 1, 5 GB)

I checked each memory separately 256 MB, 512 MB, 1024MB - works well, but combination of combination and 512 MB + 1024 MB 256 MB + 1024 MB do not work.

I did a BIOS upgrade and set version 2.3

    Any ideas guys?

    Thank you.

I m not sure but I think the problem are two different modules. They come from different manufacturers have different abilities.

If you want to, or more than 1 GB RAM, use should use the same modules. At a time when prices are cheap.

But you can also test the RAM with special tools like Memtest86:

  • Satellite A100-551 recognizes only 1 GB of RAM after upgrading memory

    Hello

    I just bought a memory of 1 GB of RAM to upgrade my Satellite 2 * 512 to 1 * 1024 + 1 * 512.
The brand of memory is Crucial.

Everywhere where I put my memory (1 GB in slot 1, 512 MB in the 2 slot or vice versa), my computer don't recognize only 1 GB.

    Some ideas on this concern?
What I have to put the same size of memory in each slot, maybe?

THX in advance for your help.

If you only check this forum and search for RAM upgrade themes, you will see that the people who use essential modules reported on compatibility issues.
If you want to upgrade to Ram successfully, please use the modules recommended Toshiba or Kingston.

If you have to choose between price and compatibility compatibility and good work modules, you must choose. Compatible Toshiba DDR2 400/533 1 GB module followed the part number - PA3411U-1M1G.

  • Server recognizes only half RAM

Hello, we have 8 HP Server Proliant DL 380 G5 with p56 2011.02.05 Bios version (the latest being, if I understand correctly). Now, all the servers have 4 1 GB FBDIMM, which works very well.

Recently, we decided to upgrade and bought memory KTH-XW667LP / 8G (according to the manufacturer, it is equivalent to 466440-B21 HP / COMPAQ and is fully compatible with this model). I installed two 8 GB FBDIMM in one of the servers, but it only sees half of the memory. Instead of 16 GB, it recognizes only 8 GB.

Now, I have tried several vaiants:

1 all 4 1 GB FBDIMM (former) is placed in the banks 1A and 3A, 2 and 4 C. The 8 GB FBDIMM are placed in banks 5b and 7B (according to the guide, this should be good). The server shows 12 GB (in BIOS and RHEL). That is, he fully acknowledges the old memory, but not the new.

    2. the old memory is completely removed for test purposes. The 8 GB FBDIMM are placed in banks 1A and 3A. The server shows 8 GB only.

Now, I have tried on three servers with various 8 GB FBDIMM (we bought 10 packs) to make sure, that it is not caused by damage of server or memory. Nothing is done, the result is the same. I guess, the problem is not in the servers and not in memory. There is no update of the BIOS that I can install (we have the most recent version). So, what could cause this problem? Maybe I need to change something inside the server to recognize the memory? Maybe it's a mechanizm of redundancy of memory, which can be turned off or what?

  • Satellite M70 (PSM73A-00F007) - Windows 7 recognize only 1 GB rather 1.5 GB

    Hello

I recently installed (clean) Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my laptop. I have installed 1.5 GB but Windows will only recognize 1 GB. In the BIOS is shows 6 cents or so to base memory and 8 cents strange memory. I'm so confused.

What I do need to update the BIOS and I can update the BIOS?
    Any help would be great.

As it is, I had to run a 'mobilitymodder.net' hack to get the card to read different than just the Standard VGA adapter...

    Andrew

    Hey,.

Normally, the BIOS should recognize 1.5 GB of RAM if the modules are working properly. Please check the BIOS again the amount of RAM is recognized.
Updating the BIOS will not help you, this doesn t affect the amount of RAM.

I think little of memory will be used for memory graph and other hardware components how much RAM is reconigzed in DirectX (start > run > dxdiag)?

  • Tecra A4 recognize only 512 MB of memory

I added 512MB DDR RAM, in addition to the original 512 MB, but the laptop does not recognize all of 1 GB, only 512 MB. The two work packages - new is recommended module from Crucial.

    Any ideas?

    Hello

I know it sounds strange, but it seems that the two modules aren't compatible together!
Tecra A4 can certainly move up to 2 GB (2 x 1024 MB) of memory.

I find that Toshiba recommends the use of these modules:
    PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 2M 51)
    1024MO PC2700 (PA3313U-2M1G)

I also found this site that provides compatible modules and supported for a Tecra A4
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=11719&ft=m&St=3

It seems that you can use a 200 pin PC2700 (333 Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules and I really recommend to use the same i.e. to modules from the same provider.

  • Satellite A200-10W recognize only 3 GB instead of 4 GB of RAM

2 years ago, I bought the laptop Toshiba A200-10w.
He had 1 GB of memory installed (at the time, the seller said that ram can be expandable to 4 GB).

Recently, I bought RAM 2x2gb modules.
When I installed the modules I had to update the update of the BIOS-Windows X, to recognize all the ram installed, but during POST only 3071 MB of RAM is checked (even though the main BIOS screen lists that 4096 Mb is installed).

Even if I use FreeBSD 64-bit operating system I can only access 3071 MB of RAM.
Is there a solution to this problem?

    Hello

To access the full 4 GB of RAM as the three components; Operating system and BIOS of the Chipset must support 4 GB of RAM.

If one of these parts does not support the 4 GB of RAM then your laptop will not handle and will not recognize the full 4 GB of RAM.

Check your chipset and look into the details to the Intel page.
There, you can find an info if your chipset is capable of 4 GB.

  • After you have reinstalled Vista Home Premium 32-Bit with Service Pack 2. Windows recognizes only 958 MB 2G of Ram. The processor is AMD Turion 64 X 2 1.80 GHz 32 bit

    Hello
I have a hp Pavilion notebook PC with a new motherboard.  After you have installed Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, I noticed that Windows only recognizes 958 MB 2 GB of RAM installed.  No one knows why this is happening and how can I fix or troubleshout the problem?
    Thank you, PD777

    Hello

How is your memory configured? that is, what is 2 x 1 GB modules or module 1 x 2 GB. If the former I would check the physical installation of the modules on the MB memory.

Vista 32 bit should see up to 3 GB, I doubt that it is Vista the cause.

Another thought, are your shared graphics? in some BIOS, it is possible to ask the system to use a fixed amount of RAM the GUI system, this memory will not be included in the complete system.

  • PowerEdge R510 recognizes only the 32 GB of RAM (of 64Gb total)

    Hello

    I have a server poweredge R510 1 processor (Intel (r) Xeon E5630 2.53 GHz CPU)

He used to have 12Gb (3x4Gb) of ram, but I decided to do an upgrade.

    I bought these modules:

    8 x 8 GB PC3L - 10600R DDR3 1333 ECC Reg, is a total of 64 GB

Unfortunately, the system recognizes that the 32 GB.

I also tried to use only 4 modules on slots next to the empty space of the cpu, but the system didn't start because he couldn't see any ram installed.

    Can you please help?

    Thank you in advance.

Completely, absolutely, positively and definitely sure. Dell support was wrong and they should have known better.

The memory controller is on the processor, not on the system map, so without a processor memory locations cannot be used. The only way to get 64 GB of RAM with a single processor is 4x16GB. There is a lot of documentation.

Running ESXi, I don't know why you wouldn't have two processors anyway...
