• Windows 2008 R2 PerfMon latency do not match ESXTOP

  Hi all

  I was faced with performance problems for my SharePoint SQL Server. I tried to find the bottleneck, and I was see some latency of less-than-desirable numbers in PerfMon. He is the guest of Windows 2008 R2 x 64 running on ESX 4.0 (build 294855) on vCenter 4.1 (build 258902). I see often numbers physique\Longueur disk s/reading for a medium disk above 10ms but often jumping more than 20 ms and sometimes much higher. 10 to 20 ms isn't bad, I know. HOWEVER, these numbers do not match what I see in ESXTOP and on the back-end storage. I have an IBM XIV, and his monitor disk latency is very close to that reported by the virtual machine in ESXTOP. That tells me that the Cisco MDS is not adding much to the latency. BTW, we are double FCoE (round robin) to Cisco 5010 s, which has so many paths of 4 GB to MDS, which has so many paths to the XIV. But ESXTOP reports usually 1/2 or better Perfmon. If the virtual machine will show, for example, a GAVG/cmd of, say, 3 ms, but PerfMon will show 9 Ms. ESXTOP will display 10 ms and PerfMon will show 20 +. LVAD/KMOY/GAVG metrics could be essentially flat, but they are bouncing up and down in PerfMon.

  Someone has an idea of what might happen? I understand that CPU and memory PerfMon counters are not very useful in the comments, but I have never read anything about the number of I/O, err. This would be another case where PerfMon is not reliable? However, the prompt is smart enough (this is SQL Server) to understand these metrics and will change its behavior accordingly. If SQL think lack of resources so his will react accordingly. Or, is it something in the virtualization layer to actually add 10 + ms of latency in the virtual machine? The disk is PVSCI and I think to change to LSI Logic SAS. I wonder if PVSCSI adds latency. Because he comes to Windows 2008 R2, the disks are already lined up.

  I'm afraid that the virtualization layer (or some other misconfiguration) adds latency of disk on the virtual computer, which in turn slows down the environment, which in turn causes the sales organization to shout in my direction. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  The problem with comments counters is not exact step is not specifically related to the CPU or memory.  On the contrary, it is related to a metric which is measured in a unit of time.  Thus, for example, what is measured in increments of seconds (average disk read/s, etc) could potentially be inaccurate.  This is because the virtual machines have complete access to a CPU to 100% of the time, so their perception of how long 1 second is actually might not be quite accurate.  It becomes more pronounced the more widely used the vCPUs of the guest are so how busy the ESX host is himself.

  I wouldn't trust the numbers coming from ESXTOP because they are not influenced by the present and are more accurate.  If you can also look at the numbers on your storage array and make sure they are near ESXTOP so you can probably ignore the data you receive in the comments.

  I planing building a server to host a few servers to Windows SBS 2008 and perhaps less certain resource hungry VMs, wich I will allow for some of my clients on my network.

  Each VM will have quite a few users, about 4 to 10 users per virtualized SBS 2008.

  The minimum requrement for a normal installation of sbs 2008 is a 64-bit CPU and 4 GB of ram.

  I wonder what kind of material I should look for, and if we run a similar crowd and can give me a few guidelines for material.

  How much ram and cpu required for leash rather have a host with 8 virtual machines running Windows 2008 Small Business Server

  Disk configuration and the e/s flow is going to be your biggest problem. Too bad you can't get the G6, I would even hold off and get a date, or import an If you must, but get a support package in place in case where if hardware problems. The G5 is old enough and a little more, you get much more for your money.

  Not played with Raid 10 really, would seek to Raid 1 for swap and log disks and Raid 5 for o/s and the data on the disks generally.

  The other problem with the G5 is that they provide 4 x 1 GB DIMMS, which are a disposable waste in a server with only 8 slots, the G6 gives you 18 slots in order to get more memory by buying more small bags...! 18 x 2 GB instead of 4 GB and a mixture more is possible...

  32 GB should do you find - you can see how the memory usage Gets and add virtual machines more later and keep an eye on things. I'm tempted to get a quad core now and add another later but closely related memory the CPU you get better ones optimized at the beginning...

  The G5 really limits your options of disc 8 disc, not bad for on all axes but it's SBS VMs not standard we are talking about. Another good reason to ask your dealer gets a G6 in pronto! You can get 300GB 2.5 "drives now for the G5, it's another option...? !

  Unfortunately, there is no other software by download.
  I checked the driver page Toshiba in the Options area but didn't find anything

  AFAIK it of a plug & play HARD drive if you n t need any software to recognize the HARD drive

  There may be a password.
  Try this:
  Connect your HARD drive to the computer when the HARD drive is working
  Select the CD drive with your browser (password)
  Run the ONSPCLCK.exe
  Select 'Options '.
  Select "Disable security password"
  Enter your current password
  Unplug the HARD drive
  connect the HARD drive

  Now, it will work, but with no password protection. Perhaps it would work

• Cannot install 3 WMF on Windows 2008 SP2 computer

  I have a system running Windows 2008 SP2 Enterprise edition OS. I try to install windows management framework 3 so I can get running powershell 3.0 on it and unable to do so. When I run the installation of 3 WMF, I get a message "the update does not apply to your system". On the WMF page, it lists this version 3 can be installed on windows 2008 SP2.

  The system has .NET 1.1, installed 3.5 SP1 and 4.5.2. I don't see WMF in the Windows Update list on the server. Suggestions that more I need to install or uninstall?

• Windows 2008 server v2

  Hi all

  Can you help me with this? a windows logon has been deployed on my windows 2008 Server v2. and when I tried to log on to the server as admin, I get a message 'security policies on this computer are set to display information about the last interactive logon. Windows could not retrieve this information. Please contact your network administrator for assistance. Now, I can't log on to the server and everything I tried but to no avail. I can only log on locally as administrator on a client system if the virtual machine is stopped.

  I hope someone out there can help you, we have recently tried to upgrade an instance of MBAM version 2.0 to version 2.5 and have received the following message is displayed:

  "This version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are using. Check your computer's system information to see if you need a x 86 (32 bit) or x 64 (64-bit) version of the program. »

  The upgrade was performed on an instance of Windows 2008 R2 64 bit and we are work struggling on why this product could not recognize the operating system? Especially given that all the prerequisites were followed to ensure that we could run the upgrade.

• Windows 2008 Server Standard not install KB3099860 with error code 8000FFFF

  I look after 3 x Windows 2008 Standard Edition servers. Two of them to date very well and are up to date with updates. One of them however, which is identical in hardware to either of the other two and even fewer programs (we use it as a simple file server), fails on the last update released December 2015:

  KB3099860 a security update for the .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 in Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2: 8 December 2015

  I tried a variety of things after having studied the problem these past few days, including:

  1 Uninstalling some updates before this one and see if they re - install. They are all re - install fine until I get to it where it fails with 8000FFFF error code so this leads me to believe that this is not in itself a problem with updates

  2. manually and also linking this Microsoft 'fixit': http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/windows-update-error-8000ffff

  3. how to install the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Server 2008 that installs but does not report errors

  4. manually by downloading the fix and trying to install - does not work.

  including rename them the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution Windows Update and giving of right on drive C for "Network Services" - still does not work.

  6. as it is associated .NET I tried to repair .NET facilities that exist on the server (2, 3, 3.5 and and re-apply updates, but even once, fails on it.)

  So, what should I do now? The behavior may suggest that it is that only this particular associate .NET that is a failure and that future ones will work, but it's "critical" and which relates to the .NET version which is initrinsic to the Windows 2008 operating system I think I should get it fixed :)

  Any thoughts?
