  Thank you for your message.  Is your aftermarket sound card or is it integrated with your Gateway computer?  Try to download and install the latest driver for your computer at the following sites.
  Bridge - click HERE to go to the gateway site and download/install the latest driver for your computer.
  RealTek - click HERE to download/install the AC 97 Codec from RealTek.
  If you are still not able to install these drivers, start in safe mode with networking and download/install the drivers from there.  Click HERE for Safe Mode instructions.

  Download and try to install the latest version. The site also has previous versions available, so if you get a bad download once again, fall back to an updated driver and download the driver and install it. Then contact HP support and let them know that they have a bad driver download.

  I understand that you have changed your operating system to windows 7 from vista, and you are not able to locate the drivers on the HP site.

  The drivers you are looking at are specifically for windows vista not for 7 so these drivers would not work for this laptop.

  One thing you might try download this HP Support Assistant program, and it will try to search for and find drivers and compatible software for your laptop. Click on this link and will need you the HP Support Assistant page.

  I searched for the hard drive on my laptop dv6626us upgrades. When I read the comments they seem to all be positive with regard to the replacement of my current (factory loaded hard drive).   HP does not have hardware support for Windows 8 on any system purchased before October 1, 2011.  Most of the Windows 7 drivers work in Windows 8.

  Check out this page to see if your computer has been tested by HP with Windows 8.

Checked in the Device Manager, I have a device of High Def Audio driver saying "Working properly", but the taskbar icon shows "no audio output not installed" there is no problem with the audio as such that it works perfectly on Ubuntu.

  You need to get the right driver Realtek for upgaded you from XP to Win 7. Here is a link for the driver:

  It just select "High Definition Audio codecs", accept the agreement and then download and install the driver for Win 7.

  The answer is simple and easy. Just take the following steps:

  1. Download and unpack the Windows XP driver from HP's website (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=316517&prodNameId=97130&swEnvOID=1093&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=hd-17950-2).
  2. Locate Setup.exe. If you kept the default unpacking options, it should be in C:\swsetup\SP27103
  3. Right click on Setup.exe and select Properties
  4. Select the compatibility tab
  5. Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP"
  6. Check the box for "Run this program as administrator"
  7. Apply the changes and exit the Properties dialog box
  8. Run the Setup program
  9. Take advantage of your integrated sound card, as it was supposed to be enjoyed.
