Windows 7 Bitlocker TPM bios password

is it necessary to password protect the BIOS if you use Bitlocker and TPM?

Technically, no, however, if someone goes into the BIOS and disable the security chip, after defining the bitlocker encryption, I think that you would be left with a mess.

    Dear customer,

Welcome to the Support Forum HP and we are happy to help you.

This is to inform you with all professional like Probooks HP laptops or EliteBook stricter security that the consumer models infact they don't produce 'stop codes', the password cannot be derived from the serial number and the code is stored in a memory not volatile to remove the cell RTC resets not the password in this case.

Please take a look at this link.

  • Set the Bios password in x 230 (Windows)

    Hello

Anyone know how I can configure the Bios from Windows 7 password? (Not in the Bios setting). I have several hundreds PSES and laptops need installation so I don't want to enter a BIOS setup.

Thanks in advance for everyone to help.

Can't do.  You can change a BIOS password, but you cannot set a password when one does not already exist.  This is for security reasons.  Otherwise, you may have malware that is able to set a password for the unknown and essentially brick your system.

  • Administrator Bios password does not work on HP 4420 s XT940UT #ABA Windows 7 64-bit

Someone please help me with this!

I bought this laptop from a friend (have receipt) who sell it to me because the screen was cracked and spidered all out when you the activated. And everywhere he went to ask to get the screen fixed it is very expensive ($250 - $350) and he said that it would be just a newer laptop. So he sold me this which is a model Probook of HP4420s XT940UT #ABA. About a week after I bought this Probook friend who sold it to died me suddenly. It was sudden and terrible. Some time later, I had the time of the purchase of the LCD for this model, replace it myself (was very easy actually) and booted up the laptop with a new installation of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Edition. After installing all my software and using the laptop for a while now, I wanted to get into the Bios that I've never done. So when I started the laptop, click ESC, then F10 to enter the BIOS, there were two places to enter a password is different then all Dell I've ever owned. One was mine I guees I put in place using HP protect tools and the other says BIOS/administrator. Well I can do most of the changes with the one I put in place with my password but my password does not work, nor can I get in some very significant changes that I wanted to do using Bios/administrator, as kindling the LoJack, namely the blocking of the hard drive etc. , turning on turbo boost, fan, etc. Well, since the person I bought is no longer with us, there is no one to turn to the answer to this question of administrator/BIOS password / problem.  I tried to take battery Rtype and restore that way, didn't work. Several times, I called HP and they sent me to a BIOS page to download the same BIOS, I have already, would not let me install it. When I bring up the command prompt and do not put anything in BiosConfigureUtility.exe happens, said just a wrong command. When I try to enter the BIOS through the C: file in the files of the SSM, I reach the BiosConfigUtility.exe file, click on it to open it and it just flashes a way small order page to fast to read what it says. I would like to have complete control over my laptop thinking I have a lot of time and money invested in it now. The problem would have something to do with installing the 64 bit version of Windows 7 instead of the 32 bits I suppose initially that he came with? I have all the manuals and they say that this laptop is compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Pro is what I installed. I'm mixed responses from many different people on this and would like an answer from HP someone who has experience in dealing with the BIOS in the Probooks business models if possible please. I really like this Probook and have since become big fan of most HP, Dell and Lenovo.  I intend to buy two probooks, one for my wife and one for my daughter because this one is like a MacBook, but better.  Thank you for reading this and I hope someone can help.

Once the results of the utility (UUID and other info) in the log file, shared with HP, they can generate a key file (SMC) to reset.

  • Default BIOS password

    Hello everyone,

I had real trouble moving my Touchsmart 600 - 1030fr to Windows 8. Due to incompatibility of graphics driver, I see nothing on my computer after the startup screen (the one with the blue window).

I discovered that a change in the BIOS can solve this problem, but my BIOS asks me a password. I tried to reset this password in removal and replacement of the battery from the motherboard. Although he told me that the BIOS has been reversed to the factory settings, the password is always there.

Is anyone of you know what is the password to the factory settings?

Also, I read on the forum but

    • The password 12345 found heredoes not work
    • the text which States

"NOTE: If a new non - HP BIOS is installed, and turn on a password is used, and you don't remember the password to start the computer, see the support document of specification motherboard for your computer model to find the password reset instructions to clear BIOS passwords."
not help me in my documentation of the computer do me not any suspicion on the specification of the motherboard and it is a real BIOS HP.

    Thanks for your help.

    Here are the specifications of your desktop HP TouchSmart 600-1030fr and it's card mother Pegatron IPP7A-M5 (E60). Please follow these instructions;

The BIOS password is used to protect the settings of the BIOS against unwanted changes. If you have forgotten your password, you can use this jumper to reset password settings.

To clear the password BIOS follow these steps:

1 turn off the POWER the computer and unplug the power cord.

    2. Locate the jumper marked CLEARLY P.W.

    3. move the jumper on the PSWD jumper on pins 3-1.

4 wait about 10 seconds, and then return the jumper to pins 5-3.

    5. connect the power cord and turn on the computer.

6 hold down the F10 key during the boot process to enter the BIOS setup. You will not be asked a password.

I managed to get some information indicating "press ESC and start together and then press F1 '-it seemed to work once, but then I couldn't repeat the sequence, the computer just started directly in windows.

  • Portege Z830 - Bios password change/remove

When I started my new Portege Z830, it gave me the opportunity during the entire upward, to put a bios password.

I did, but I am now regret, as I have to present two passwords, bios and windows, can start to do something. As I need the BIOS one, how in the system to edit or delete, now that I don't have access to all of the screens?

    Thank you

You can delete it in the BIOS options directly or using Toshiba tool in Windows supervisor password utility.

I recommend to proceed to a complete stop and restart after laptop enter the BIOS settings and delete here.

  • Tecra A11 - 1EG - cannot be accessed after the supervisor setting BIOS password

Hello, I would like to know if anyone can help?

We have started to put a supervisor on our laptop Tecra A11 password so that our students can not set passwords on the hard drive, etc.

To enter the BIOS and set a BIOS password, press us F2 that the machine starts.
Then we go to the security option, then supervisor password.
After entering the password we use twice, press us F10 to save etc.

The machine starts ok and will windows smoothly.

The problem we have now, is that we cannot go back into the bios at all.
As machine starts support us on the "F2" key as before, but unlike previously the screen remains white and the "Toshiba leading Innovation > ' screen no longer appears."

If we keep our finger on the F' key or continue pressing the laptop restarts just without ever get to the BIOS screen where I guess that get us ask the supervisor password that we set earlier?

Is there another key, that we should be pressing that start the laptop?

I would add that we have added a password of supervisor for the screen of security BIOS on three of our laptops and all three have the same problem.

    Thank you

    Steve

I think this should be useful for you:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB0B032D0000R01.htm

In some cases, you need to press the "INS" in Toshiba logo appears.

Then appears a prompt for the password for the supervisor and if the password is certified then the BIOS could be entered by pressing the "F2" key

Problem is that I did not use this laptop for quite awhile and I forgot I put a Bios password. Now I need to re - install windows (corrupt), but I can't get my notebook to boot from USB or DVD. To access this menu, I need my Bios password.

I can remove the HARD drive and install windows on another PC and continue the installation on the laptop, but I still need this password reset...

    Hello

Now, have a problem with the clock in windows 8.1 and linux when the laptop is not connected to the network. Could you please help me restet password please? CND02910YP

    Hello

Unfortunately, business machines such as Probooks or EliteBook have more strict security consumption patterns - they do not produce "stop codes", the password cannot be derived from the serial number and the code is stored in a nonvolatile memory to remove the RTC cell does not reset the password in this case.

If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a file custom SMC.bin that you can use to reset the password at startup.

    Kind regards
