Windows 7 - can't delete old photos, music and video files in Windows Media Player

using computer Windows 7 and current Windows Media Player - given to me after the mine crashed and burned.  Went through all the settings (have everything set up right after that) but I have files Photos, music and videos that belonged to the person who owned it before.  He left the area and while I don't want to show files (what they are - don't know, don't care) I don't want to get out of here.  MASSIVE amount of files.  No matter what I seem to do they will not erase.  I have tried everything I can think of short of wiping the thing and starting over.  Help! Suggestions - idea short of dumping in the trash (setting fire to him or by running a truck, ect...) to clean this thing would be GREATLY appreciated...

Mike

The best thing you can do with a used computer that gave you is to access the recovery partition and reinstall the default unit. Most of the laptops brand will have a reserved recovery Partition built into the main HARD disk that can be used to restore the computer to right-of-factory default. Usually activated by touching a certain key during the boot process or by using the software provided by the computer manufacturer.

Dell uses Ctrl + F11 at the Dell logo screen to initiate the restore process. HP uses a program in Windows 7, called Manager of recovery. Your system may vary depending on the manufacturer.

Don't forget to get all documents (including images) and any other personal information that you want to keep. Several key software product can be recovered with the Belarc Advisor before the restore, but you will need to locate the diskettes (CD/DVD, ISOs or exe) installation for each piece of software.

No, Windows does not let you to set passwords that limit access to shared folders. However, if you are not on a domain, you can limit network access to the Public folder by turning password protected sharing or disable. This allows only people with a user account and the password for your computer to access the Public folder over the network.

Whether you are on a domain or not, you can limit access to other folders by choosing to share only with specific people, grant share permissions. Permissions can be granted to an individual or a group of users on the same network, allowing them to access your shared folders. You can also set the level of access, allowing people to just open shared files, or also to change, create, or delete. For more information, see

The program has an open handle. Use the Task Manager process tab to locate and kill him. Alternatively, restart the system and delete once recharged. Good luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Crazy" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Windows help - www.rickrogers.org

    Hi Tkm1963,

    1. what program you use to edit audio?

If you are using Windows Movie maker, you can read the following article and see if it helps:

There are also third-party applications to do the job. You can search your favorite search engine and download third-party software to modify music files.

Note: The use of third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

  • Music and video through the center of backup and restore backup

Vista Home Premium Centre of backup and restoration of claims that music and video files can be saved on CD or DVD. The structures of folders are created; However, the folders are empty. I disabled McAfee and tried with the same result. Can video and music files (mp3 and wma) be backed up by the backup center and restoration? Thank you.

    Hi ChicagoExPat,

Make sure that the disks are writable, which means that you can add, remove, or modify the content. If you decide to use this method and have a lot of files to backup, be sure to have enough disks to complete the job. The back up files Wizard you indicates how much space you need whenever you perform a backup and recommends the type of media to use.

  • iTunes "manually manage music and videos" option cannot be deselected.

I changed my options on iTunes and now I can not uncheck "manually manage music and videos". I tried to uncheck and then clicked 'Apply' and after that, there is still not controlled. The first image shows the option checked. Picture 2 shows that "manually manage music and videos" was unchecked and I clicked apply. After I clicked on apply "manually manage music and videos" remains active. I want to know how do I uncheck "manually manage music and videos" and keep it unchecked. Any suggestions?

What should I options you checked in the SETTINGS > tab MUSIC?

    Sync music checked?

    Entire library of music?

Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres?

Is probably a dependency between these parameters.

It is not that there is a problem in Windows 7, it is more likely that you don't have just the installed CODEC the video file is saved with.  You will need to find a source, download and install any CODEC no MS yourself. You can use GSpot to identify CODECs used in AVI files. An alternative to downloading of many individual CODECs is to install FFDSHOW instead. Some media players like VLC and Media Player Classic also have internal CODECS and support for a wide variety of video and audio file types.

    Hi kari skeins.

You can re-create the database of Windows Media Player and see if that fixes the problem. Follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

    (b) click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

(c), select all the files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

Note: You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    (d) restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

    (b) click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoftand then click OK.

    (c) select the folder Media Player and then click on Delete on the file menu.

    (d) restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.
