Windows 7 can't see XP machine

I have two machines - we'll we'll call XP (a netbook under XP SP3 with wireless turned off) and W7 (your desktop under W7 Home Premium) - both connected by Ethernet to a router BT HomeHub 2.  XP may see public folders on W7 but W7 can't see XP, although the troubleshooter of W7 said that XP is there but cannot answer.  Both are in the WORKING group.

XP Shared Documents folder is set to be shared and modified on the network and "the Windows Firewall is configured to allow this folder to be shared with other computers on the network."

On W7 (home and work profile), network discovery, file and printer sharing, public folder sharing are turned on.  Password is DISABLED.

According to the router, W7 is on 192.168.1.64 and XP is on 192.168.1.65

Ping W7 in XP by IP - OK
Ping W7 in XP by name - OK (using the IP waited)

XP from W7 by IP ping - timeout
Ping XP from W7 by name - timeout, but he is looking for XP on 92.242.xxx.xxx

If the router thinks all is normal, but the W7 sees XP as being out there on the Internet somewhere.

Surely something wrong here?

Hello Elsa.  First of all, apologies for taking so long to get back to you.  After all your Herculean efforts (and GTS - NJ) I almost feel guilty to announce the McAfee has expired license and after uninstalling it everything seems to work perfectly.

FWIW, I now Comodo Personal Firewall on both machines, but they were able to see each other when XP was still the Windows Firewall.  In other words, I don't think I'm in a similar situation where two firewalls must be the same.

Yes, problem solved by avoiding it.  Thank you once again for all the help incredibly patient I had, I'm sure that all this information to help someone down the line, it looked quite useful.

Bravo guys,.

  • All network devices can see each other + Windows 7 computer, but machine Windows 7 can not see them

Hello. Under the network of my machine Windows 8 folder, I can see all the devices on the network. This includes a printer, my computer Windows 7 (what I can access), an Apple TV (from special software), a wireless hard drive, the router and a digital recorder.

The Windows 7 machine, I can only see the router and the printer. On special software, the Apple TV does not either. When you perform the Windows 8 computer host as a server for the special software, the Windows 7 machine could not see it on the special software. This means that there is something wrong on the Windows 7 this machine is not allowing him to detect other devices.

In a game of LAN, Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers can't see each other.

All devices are on the internet and I am posting this from the Windows 7 machine right now.

Windows 7 and Windows 8 machine are on the same network.

No device is on a host group and the group home service is disabled.

    Peer networking is enabled.

    Network discovery is turned on.

Both connections are set to private/Home.

Originally, the Windows 7 machine has been on his own home group and could be seen by anything. After a few hours, I finally got out of the home group, how other devices could see him then. However, he cannot always see other devices.

How can I get the Windows 7 machine to see other devices? I am at a loss. Is there a service that I have disabled right now that needs to be enabled? I don't know what to do.

  • Satellite U840-10N - Windows Installation can not see any drive

Hi all, this is my first post so I hope that I chose the right place to post in.

I just bought a new Toshiba Satellite u840-10n ultrabook. He joined WIndows 7 Home Premium 320 GB HHD + SSD of 32 GB.

Even though I prefer Linux, I need Windows because of Microsoft Visual Studio. I downloaded Visual Studio (legally throught dreamspark.com), but it looks like it has some issues. In particular, I can't create any project.

After searching the Web for this problem, I decided to try reinstalling Windows, hoping that this will solve the problem, and here's the point.

Installation process of Windows 7 can not find any drive. I looked through the web a lot to solve this problem, even, without understanding.

I read a lot of other people had the same problem. I tried different ways and I'm about to throw the laptop out the window.

Is there anyone can help me?

    See you soon,.

You need to load the SATA driver before you start the installation of the OS. Try it please use the files from http://www.fileswap.com/dl/igfH0jVrap/

I used it on my Win8 preinstalled satellite to install Win7 64 bit. Copy it to USB and install from there.

My computer seems to have nuts. I have several times & suddenly (in minutes) began to receive messages "Windows Explorer is not responding", with choices such as "search solution and restart the program", "stop program", "wait." Also, it happened several times for Firefox.

Can I use desktop shortcuts & open Office files, but I can't see the contents of the C drive, etc. Looks like it is filling when I click on "Computer", which will display all of the subfolders... a green bar moved from left to right at the top for more than an hour, but still no folders/files are displayed.

It is now after midnight. I'll leave it as; non-stop. If all goes well, he rebuilds "pointers" or other & will be done by morning.

  • Windows 7 can not 'see' Windows XP Pro on network

Hello. I'm trying to share files on a XP Pro SP3 system with a Windows7 machine. I can ping W7 from XP. I can't ping XP from W7. If I boot XP in safe mode with setting in network, everything works fine. See the following topics:

    Windows 7 Pro SP1 (W7)

    IP ADDRESS: a.b.c.d / 255.255.255.0
    GATEWAY: a.b.c.g
    WORKING GROUP: DBCPA
    NAME: Inspiron560

    Windows XP Pro SP3 (XP)

    IP ADDRESS: a.b.c.e / 255.255.255.0
    GATEWAY: a.b.c.g
    WORKING GROUP: DBCPA
    NAME: Powerspec

    (1) started normally XP:

    On XP: Ping successful a.b.c.d
    Ping successful inspiron560

    On W7: Ping Timeout a.b.c.e
    Powerspec ping Timeout

    (2) XP booted safe mode with networking (same user):

    On XP: Ping successful a.b.c.d
    Ping successful inspiron560

    On W7: Ping successful a.b.c.e
    Ping successful powerspec

    -Help!

    -Ken Hunt

The problem is in Norton 360 on the XP box. Enabling the address IP of W7 being approved has solved the problem.

  • When I shrink down to an open window I can't see on the bottom of my screen that comes somewhere out site__

Remember - this is a public forum so never post private information such as numbers of mail or telephone!

    Ideas:

    • You have problems with programs
    • Error messages
    • Recent changes to your computer
    • What you have already tried to solve the problem

On the bottom of your screen, you see your taskbar?

If this isn't the case, two things can happen:

    1. the task bar has been set to auto hide

    2. the taskbar shrank

If this is the first case, simply move your mouse to the bottom of the screen and the taskbar will come into view. To avoid the taskbar hide again, follow these steps:

    1. right click on the taskbar and select "Properties" from the context menu. The window "taskbar and Start menu properties" should open.

    2. with the tab 'To-do bar' open, uncheck the box "auto-hide the taskbar."

    3. click 'OK' to save the changes and exit the Properties window.

    4. click again on the taskbar, and select "lock the taskbar".

If this is the second case:

    1. move the mouse to the bottom of the screen until the pointer turns into an arrow

    2 left-click of the mouse

    3. While holding down the left button of the mouse, made slide up until you see the taskbar.

    4. click again on the taskbar, and select "lock the taskbar".

All of this is assuming that the taskbar are normally kept at the bottom of the screen.  Adjust accordingly the above according to the placement of the normal task bar.

    Hope this helps

  • Windows XP can't see shared files and folders on the system Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I have a wireless home network. When I got Windows 7 Home premium 32-bit on my desk - my XP laptop was able to share files and folders.

Today, I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Now - my Windows 7 Desktop can access files on my XP laptop - BUT - I was no longer able to access to any shared files and folders on the Windows 7 desktop. I checked that matches the name of working group. And on the XP - when I go to the Add Assistant preferred network and make a Browse. When I select Microsoft Windows network and task force - I see my office listed. But when I try to select - the OK button remains grayed out.
I would appreciate your help on this.

Thanks for your help - but I just found out the problem. In the advanced sharing settings, I forgot to select Enable turn off password protected sharing. The second I chose no-all the files and folders that I set to share on the Windows 7 system became available.

    Thanks for your help, anyway.
  • Windows 7 can not "see" the files on my external hard drive all of a sudden after I used ICACLS to give me full control.

I used ICACLS in a command prompt high to give me all permissions for all on the external hard drive. I do not share the disk or remove permissions from any other 'user' but all of a sudden the guest not to see the files on the disc and I don't know what to do about it. But when I open a window and go outside, the files are there, I can access it, use them in all cases, I would normally.

Anyone has an idea why an elevated command prompt would not be able to see the files that are clearly on the external hard drive? There is just something not right on command prompt, you see only not the files that are there.

    Thanks in advance

Update: it turns out that there seems to be some kind of conflict between the UAC and the Administrators group. Don't know how I was touched, but I finally finished refusing authorization in writing system on my external hard drive. Suddenly Builtin Administrator, users of Builtin and NT Authority stood, one of them, or another group, resumed training, locked read-only access to all files, and then he took it a little further and removed my ability to write attributes or read them. I was forced to use a back up 'Admin I have on standby with a third I reapplied my main administrator permissions, but still denied access. After doing things with ICACLS, I was able to get a partial control, but I still couldn't save.

At the end of the road, it turns out that an external hard drive formatted in NTFS is recognized by the computer as a disk fixed, as if it were part of the computer, and there it was treated as such, given my file system files by locking the.

Even with the hidden Builtin Administrator I activated, I couldn't access the files. I finally had to move all the girls to the drive c:\ and format the external drive with exFat so that the system do not think that he was part of the computer. Unfortunately, I can never depend on having a System Image backup because exFat cannot have a writing for her.

I have full access, as well as anyone and everyone, there is no permissions on exFat, so it's a compromise, better than the system for the control of my own computer ruined combat...

  • Windows 7 can not 'see' printer connected to the wifi (Photosmart B210)

I recently bought a new laptop running Windows 7 and printer (HP B210e). I installed the printer successfully and everything was going well for a few days, but today it stopped working saying: the printer is offline. I could find no way to remove so I tried re-installing the printer and online. I used the CD that came with the printer, but it failed in the middle of saying he was no attached printer and offers various tips on how to activate it, but he turned and compatible wifi. Ping the IP address failed, as did try to find the IP address of the printer. I also have a desktop computer attached USB Windows XP and allows to print without any problems. I ran out of ideas - can we make suggestions?

  • Re: Equium A200-1VO - Windows XP can't see hard drive

I just replaced the hard drive on my toshiba satellite A200-1VO and trying to load XP but I get a message saying there is no hard drive.
    Can someone help me?

    Hello

Have you used the SATA HDD?
A200 series supports the SATA controller and you need SATA HDD (not the IDE).

In addition the SATA HDD needs SATA drivers. Win XP does not provide such driver, and therefore you must include this.

Search here in the forum A200 SATA drivers to get more details and info.

  • Windows Vista machines can see XP machines but cannot communicate with them.

original title: VISTA machine can see XP machines in local network, cannot connect

I have a 3 computer home network that has worked very well for many years, but it is usually just used by 3 machines to access the Internet.  Very rarely a computer does enter a file out of one of the other machines, but this feature has certainly worked in the past.

Machine 1: Desktop/VISTA/setting up a connection to the router

Machine 2: Desktop/XP/setting up a connection to the router

Machine 3: Computer connection laptop/XP/wireless to the router

All the machines, automatic update of Windows and all the computers are running Norton Security Suite, which is also updated automatically.  Norton Security Suite is a relatively new introduction to the network.

2 XP machines see that all 3 computers in the network each has access to the other.  2 XP machines can not "reach" the VISTA ("the network path was not found") which could be correct, because machine that I never shared something on this machine, although sharing file and printer sharing * are * on.

On the VISTA machine click on network and sharing Center and then see the full plan shows 3 machines in the group.  But, then clicking on view computers and devices results in the network window, which shows that the VISTA as a computer machine and a media device.  No XP computer to connect to.

The VISTA machine can ping machines (Machine 2 ping or ping Machine 3) XP, but XP machines can't ping the VISTA.  In fact, it's quite strange; If I 'ping Machine 1' of one of the machines XP ping command reports "Pinging Machine 1. (Name of working group) "[208.68.143.50] with 32 bytes of data", then he received 4 requests, responses has expired.  I have no idea where this name - the name of my PC added on behalf of the Working Group - and the IP address belongs to a computer somewhere in Massachusetts!  (I'm in California).

Rattling of the VISTA machine using its IP internal, as reported by the router just translates into 4 requests, responses has expired.

I worked on it for hours now, after trying all of the 'standard' patches with no improvement.  Given the Windows error message when one of the XP machines trying to access the VISTA - "the path not found network" machine as opposed to they access denied response - and the ping odd response when you use the name of the machine, I have the feeling that the things in the list of standard control is not the problem.

    Any thoughts?

    Tom Young

I finally reduced to the Norton Security Suite firewall.  Don't think that was the issue that the 2 XP machines are also running Norton Security Suite and is working very well.  Penetrating machines XP 2 'Total confidence' confidence level - which doesn't seem to be necessary according to the news 'aid' to Norton that I read over and over again - cured the problem.
