Windows 7 / cannot turn on Windows Defender

Hello

I'm running Windows 7 Pro. I have no antivirus running software and or installed. I have no signs apparent or perceptible to a virus infection or malware on my PC. Everything seems to work very well. Today, I checked on Windows Defender to see how it worked and possible search implemented to update and the application has been disabled. I was not able to re - turn Windows Defender on or via the Panel control or even after attempts to modify the Windows registry.

In the registry, I sailed to "Windows Defender" and I chose 'DisableAntiSpyware' then 'change '. I've changed the 'value data' from '1' to '0' and no change just the following error as you can see. I tried to remove the "1" value in the "value data" and still no change, just the error message. Here is the error message I received: "error editing value cannot change DisableAntiSpyware: error writing to the new content value.

I don't know if it is advisable to do so, but I even tried in vain to remove 'DisableAntiSpyware' from the registry and I got a different error message: "error deleting values unable to delete all specified values."

I consider myself a moderate computer user. I can install memory sticks and even a sale of hard drive option, I'm not all that only warned. Can someone please? I only want to activate Windows Defender continue to use it again.

Thank you

Malware does not always of obvious signs.

On Windows 7, Windows Defender is not complete antimalware application.  You can find details on what he do in the section appropriate forum - Virus and Malware Note that Windows Defender on Windows 7 is not the same application as Windows Defender on Windows 10.

I urge you to cancel all changes made in the registry.  You have no way of knowing what effect these changes could have in the future.

You really need to have an anti-malware application installed.  You can install MS Security Essentials for use until you have the time to look for a decent [MSSE doing pretty bad in efficiency tests].

After installing a utility decent antimalware software.

  • Scan your entire computer
  • scan all computers which were networked with her and
  • Scan all USB keys, external hard drives & other devices containing storage such as MP3 players that have been used in the computer of the object or one of the computers which were networked with him.

Opinions on the antimalware utilities vary.  This is a support forum for users where users ask questions and answer questions users - there are both good & bad opinions on most of the anti-malware utilities.  Some of these views were clearly trained many years ago but have persisted as prejudice blind while it was impossible for me to draw a strong conclusion of the opinions of the users.

I read several reviews online [PCMag & others] and noticed that many of them according to their critics on the very source of the results of tests of effectiveness .  So I investigated this source directly instead.  I studied the results for Windows 7 and Windows 10 Android so that I could use the same solution on them all.  I limited my detailed studies of these utilities that had reached the maximum score for effectiveness [detection & prevents malware] and then ranked compared to other factors presented as their load on the computer.  The shortlist was Norton, ESET, Bitdefender, Kaspersky and trend.

Initially, I bought Norton.  It does not load the system in the way that it used to do years ago.  However, as several users reported in this forum & in the Norton forum, was undetected errors of installation on Windows 10 which resulted to the built-in Windows Defender is not properly disabled with implications that follow on Windows update.  When it became clear that their helpdesk didn't have a clue about the problem, I put in a cell.

I finally chose Bitdefender.

BitDefender online technical support is also useless that almost everything the world online helpdesk, but I decided that the efficiency was the most important factor.  BitDefender support get there late account, but only if you repeatedly tell them that their previous response has not correctly solve the problem.  The only decent helpdesk, I found was Malwarebytes, which were excellent, but their software has not released very well in tests of effectiveness.

    Hello

    ·         You have Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer?

If you have windows installed on your computer security essentials, then you will not be able to install Windows defender. Windows Security Essentials has antispyware component installed.

You get the error because you have installed MS Security Essentials, which has its own function to antimalware. You don't need or want to install Windows Defender, too. Leave MS Security Essentials installed and do not turn it off.

I use Windows Security Essentials OK, but Windows Defender is DISABLED and cannot be turned on. What should do?

Windows Defender is part of the Vista operating system. It cannot be uninstalled, nor can you install another fresh copy in the system. This Windows Defender lives and dies with the operating system.

It is called Microsoft Security Essentials, not Windows Security Essentials.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentilas) is supposed to close Windows Defender.
This is because MSE has his own Defender. Run 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflicts.

Therefore, it is normal to find widows Defender NOT enabled if you installed MSE.

You don't have to do a thing. So be.

  • Windows Defender appears each time computer is turned on

Everytime I turn on my computer windows defender appears saying that it is turned off. Windows Defender, I opened and he was selected to be marketed. So I checked the box that said turn on windows Defender but whenever I have turn off the computer or restart it, it says that windows defender is stopped. Why this is happening and what can do?

    Hi Babyblues221,

From your description, it seems plausible that another program can be disable Windows Defender.  You use a different type of antivirus/security software?  These are often the causes of Windows Defender turned off.  You can try a "clean boot" to verify that it is or is not caused by another application.  To check this, reactivate Windows Defender, follow these steps:

To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps.

    1. Click on launch , t
    2. Type msconfig in the box start looking for and then press ENTER.
    • If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.
    • On the the general tab, click on Selective startup.
    • Under Selective startup, turn it off box load startup items.
    • Click on the Services tab, select him hide all Microsoft Services check box and then click on Disable all.
    • Click on OK.
    • When you are prompted, click on restart.
    • After the computer starts, start the program or game and see if the problem is resolved.
If Windows Defender is on, there is another program that starts and stops this return.  You may need to try to reactivate each non-Microsoft service individually to find the app problem.
    • Some services may temporarily lose functionality when you perform a clean boot procedure. When you restore the settings, the functionality will be restored. However, the original error message or behavior may return.
    • Be aware that if the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from complete the clean boot procedure. You may need to contact the aid system administrator if you cannot perform a clean boot.

    I hope this helps!

You are running Microsoft Security Essentials? If so, it turns out
Defender off the coast and it's good, not bad. It turns off the Defender because
    It contains the same features.

There are a few other anti-virus programs that do the same

Yes, that's why. Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Norton, and
McAfee all turn them off Defender. It's good, not bad. Not only is at - it
potential conflict, but there is no reason to have both. they are all
basically have something very similar to the built-in Defender.
and both running at once will be your performance level and create the

It is not correct that you can't remove it without defender. Use
