Windows 7 compatibility on old HP computers

We have more than 300 computers at our school who have the XP operating system on it.  Because XP will expire soon we are forced to get Windows 7 for all our computers.  Because our laptops are so old I don't know if they will work on the Windows 7 operating system.  Can you tell me if it will work?  Our HP computers are HP Compaq 6510 b.

  • reuse the license of Windows XP from the old office to the new office

We have 4 old desktop computers with windows xp I want to reuse the license of Windows XP from the old office to the new office

I bought a HP desktop computer and dell preinstalled with Windows XP. The office has not worked for a few years, he has the processor are P4 and slow work.

I recently bought a desktop computer and wanted to know can I use the same license key to get Windows XP installed on my new desktop computer.

Note: I have lost my original installation of windows CD but have the office and Windows XP product code is available to me.

The old HP desktop and dell came with a license with the sticker on the side.

Any PC which came with a sticker with a key to activate product on it has a license that is related to this PC (and only this PC) for ever. It is not legal to install on a PC using the key videos from another PC.

If the PC you want to install XP on still has its sticker, then as much as you have a compatible installation XP CD, XP can be re-installed using the key on the sticker.

Only commercial versions of XP can be moved from one PC to another. With the commercial versions, the activation key came with the media, not on a label stuck on the PC.

  • Windows 7 Compatibility Mode behavior

I am reproducing this issue I posted earlier, at superuser.com without getting any response. I need to know the answer to this question; more and more of my users have this problem.

    http://superuser.com/questions/743064/Windows-7s-compatibility-mode-behavior

Review the settings of Mode of Application compatibility for a typical Windows program:

The question is: what exactly will happen to the environment (in particular, access to C:\ProgramData) provided by Windows in the program where the only change is to set properties for compatibility with WinXP SP3, as follows:

    The background:

An application that has been updated during the golden age of Windows XP gives us some problems now. Specifically, it is optimized to use a .NET library to write files in a subdirectory in the %ALLUSERSPROFILE% area (on Windows 7, this is generally C:\ProgramData ) which are essential to the license of the application. The files themselves are plain text files.

These text files are created and written to using a much newer and separate program .NET that works without problems, write the files to the right place. But then the old program does not read the files correctly; We have not been able to determine exactly what is happening.

Many users find that setting compatibility mode allows the system to function properly. I need to better understand that much.

This issue is beyond the scope of this site and must be placed on Technet or MSDN

  • Windows 7 drivers for old bridge

Hey guys, I recently got an old computer Gateway 510 SE. I had Windows XP on the machine for a while and wanted to install Windows 7 on it. I ran the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" and everything was consistent. The only problem was that the Aero feature is not supported, but this isn't a big deal and didn't effect me that much. I then installed windows 7 on the computer and I easily installed the audio driver in Device Manager. However, I wasn't able to do it with the graphics driver or Modem PCI driver. I did some research and I very hard to find compatible drivers. Bare in mind that I did the following:

-J' tried install not found drivers in "compatibility" Mode

-J' tried install not found drivers as administrator

I installed Windows 7 on an old Dell Dimension 2400 and works very well. However, I can't understand it. I'm very confused, and help would be very appreciated.

    Here are some features:

    Gateway 510 SE

    Intel (r) Pentium (r) CPU 2.60 GHz

    1.50 GB RAM

    Windows 7 32 bit

    Thank you

    Mark

To start 1.5 G of ram will hardly and drivers will even official support site offers no more card reader and AHCI SATA for W7 drivers.

    Official support site

Time to upgrade the computer if you really want to move to W7.

If this isn't the case, I would stick with XP (half of the computer world is still using it) that he would perform the pants off of W7 on this computer, even if you could get the W7 drivers for it which do not exist.

  • Windows 95 compatibility

Windows 7 has a Windows 95 compatibility mode for older games?

    Lance68,

Yes, it's done, but it is not 100% guaranteed to work correctly. This works for some programs, but not for all.

Right-click of your program, properties tab check "Run in compatibility mode" and W95 is top of the list. There are also some specific options like use res 640 x 480 or 256 colors etc.

But nothing is certain in what concerns if the program is running or not.

Make sure your drivers are updated... and tell the program to run in compatibility mode.

  • After installing Windows 7, linking my old drive with Windows XP on it will let see me all the data in the drive?

Original title: installation of Windows 7.

I install Windows 7 on a new drive. My old drive is Windows XP and all my old data.

IF I had to unplugging the old drive and install Windows 7 on the new drive and then plug the old drive and restart Windows 7 with the old drive as a slave, windows see the old drive as a second drive and view all data on this drive?

Yes, it will be. The old man will be the slave and you can copy your files and settings to your new Windows 7 install on the new drive.

It will not move programs, though. They would need to be reinstalled.

You are welcome for the answer. You will need to use a cd/dvd drive or a removable media like a flash/USB device to transfer the file on the computer in question. You can download the LOM Broadcom 10/100 Ethernet controller driver from HERE.

  • Can I use the product windows XP from my old CPU key to downgrade my new processor from Vista to XP?

    Vista to XP question

Can I use the product windows XP from my old CPU key to downgrade my new processor from Vista to XP?

N ° decommissioning requires installation of XP from an XP installation cd and a retail product key.  If XP is preinstalled on the old computer, the product key on the label is valid for the copy of XP OEM is installed on your old computer, even if it is still on the old computer.   An OEM license is not transferable to any other computer.

Before you plan to install XP on your new computer you must visit the manufacturer's Web site to see if the XP drivers are also available.
