Windows 7 OEM Hardware Upgrade policy

If I buy a PC with Windows 7 preinstalled OEM, am I allowed to later:
1) upgrade the CPU to a faster model with more hearts?
(2) add an additional processor if my motherboard supports?
(3) replace the HD that OEM Windows 7 has been installed with a faster HD more recent?

Here are a few likely Corsican action that I might want to take:
(1) buy a workstation z400 Hewlett Packard 2.4 GHZ Dual Core Xeon W3503 with OEM Windows 7 now and upgrade the processor to a 2.66 GHZ Quad Core Xeon W3520 a few years later, when I have the money.
(2) purchase a Hewlett Packard with Windows 7 OEM z400 installed on the 160 GB hard drive now, but install Windows 7 OEM on a new hard drive to 500 GB 10 000 rpm when I either money or original 160 GB hard drive crashes.

Only, I thought I should ask now before buying a system with Windows 7 OEM installed because I know that there are certain laws determine what I can and can not update when I use a Microsoft OEM operating system.  I want to get all this directly now to ensure that I don't block me in an obsolete technology.

It's a little tangent to my original question, but Microsoft has just made life easier for us power users!

"If you build a PC for your personal use or to install an additional operating system in a virtual machine, you can now buy software OEM System Builder using the personal use license." -

It's crazy awesome! The personal use license terms are very reasonable and they make it where feed us junkies can start back to Newegg and TigerDirect!

Thank you, Microsoft.

You guys Rock!

  • Buy Windows 7 OEM and hardware to upgrade one old PC

I have a computer running windows XP Pro and want to upgrade the hardware and software.

I intend to replace the memory and the hard drive, now in the old days, they told me by Microsoft Licensing, it was ok for that but it was in the days of XP.

Microsoft changing licenses so want to make sure that it is always ok.

I don't want to run Windows 8, as is the new VISTA.

I'm not worried about my files that I intend to install fresh and they can be transferred from the old drive.

Nor am I worried about being locked to the PC once activated.

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

So I recommend that you first install the new hardware, then proceed with the installation of Windows 7 on new material.

  • Windows 7 Retail Upgrade DVD ISO on USB or Windows 7 OEM already on USB?

    Hi all:

I just ordered one of the new generation 5 PCs NUC and up to 10 Windows comes out I would install Windows 7 HP of a retail upgrade DVD.  I have also put already HP Vista retail DVD on a bootable USB to install the first so that the upgrade will be legal.  My question is, I could use a copy of Windows 7 OEM HP already used on another PC on a USB stick and install as an upgrade to the HP Vista installed first from an another USB using the upgrade button to authenticate the OEM version?  Phew!  It was a matter of time.   It would be much easier because Windows 7 OEM on the USB key contains all the latest updates/service packs, and I wouldn't have to do a new USB boot Windows 7.

Another possible problem is that new PC NUC material can cause the initial Vista HP installation to fail?  Vista is NOT listed as an operating system supported for the 5th generation NUC PC but I hope it will at least install and work long enough to then use the Windows 7 upgrade version.   Failure... it would be legal to use the double "clean install" of Windows 7 method and then explain that I have the retail version of Vista that wouldn't install to allow legal usage of Windows 7 Upgrade version?

    The upgrade to Windows XP?

Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

More detailed instructions are available at windows.microsoft.com/upgrade-windows-xp. Here are the basic steps.

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor (windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor) to see if there are known issues that may affect the installation and the question of whether you should install the version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

2 back up your files and settings on an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer). If you do not have an external hard drive, you will not be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. Alternatively, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick, CD or DVD.

    3. you will need to manually reinstall your programs, such as Microsoft Office, after I installed Windows 7. Gather the installation for your programs and all partner/license product key discs. You may be able to download programs from the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger can be installed from the download.live.com/messenger.

    4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)."

    5. when Windows 7 is installed, use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings.

If you are not comfortable Windows 7 installation, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services.

  • Issue of license of Windows 7 OEM

    Dear all,

I want to explain my situation on my lack of knowledge Windows license.

First a year ago of couple, I decide to start an experimental laboratory that will use a number of computer

so I brought several computer game with Windows 7 Pro OEM which Pack in a regular white box
and a red stripe on the end and he said OEM ' pack generator system intended for the system integrator ONLY .

And I have three of these leaves intact, including a set of new computer do use ever for a few years

(in fact, they are still in a box), now it is good to use this machine as a whole to do a job on a daily basis which will be
came across Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft OneDrive.

    So the question is:

-J' still have right to build and use this OEM license with these machines?

-Are there ways to check if these permits has been used or taken by someone?

-He will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free?
-If the part of my computer was broken HARD drive, for example, a re-installation is possible?

    Thank you very much

    Peter

    So the question is:

-J' still have right to build and use this OEM license with these machines?

Yes, as long as they have not been previously installed and used elsewhere.

-Are there ways to check if these permits has been used or taken by someone?

Unfortunately no, you need to install and try activation.

-He will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free?

Yes, you can upgrade to Windows 10 free OEM versions. They are eligible licenses as long as they are activated.

    or

How to install and activate Windows 10 using your Windows 7 or Windows 8 product key

-If the part of my computer was broken HARD drive, for example, a re-installation is possible?

    This is the trickiest part.

When I install a preinstalled (OEM) or the retail version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 Windows 10 license, this license OEM to remain or become a retail license?

If you upgrade an OEM or retail version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 for the free Windows 10 update this summer, the license is consumed in it. Because the free update is derived from the basic qualification license, Windows 10 will be that too many licenses.

If you are upgrading a retail version, it carries the rights to a commercial version.

If you upgrade an OEM version, it carries the rights of an OEM version.

    Full version (retail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-Does not require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

    -Expensive

    Upgrade version (detail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

-Expensive, but less expensive full version

    OEM:

OEM of Windows versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

What happens if I change my motherboard?

In regards to the OEM license , this would negate the 10 Windows upgrade license because he is no longer a qualifying previous base license that is required for the free update. Then, you will need to purchase a Windows 10 full retail license. If the license of basic (Windows 7 or Windows 8.1) qualification was a full retail version, then Yes, you can transfer it.

Since the final Windows 10 user license agreement:

    b. autonomous software. If you acquired the software as a standalone software (and also if you upgraded the software you have purchased as a standalone software), you may transfer the software to a different device that belongs to you. You can also transfer the software on a device that belonged to someone else if (i) you are the first user under the software license and (ii) the user agrees to the terms of this agreement. You can use the backup copy that we do or the media the software provided on transfer the software. Whenever you transfer the software to a new device, you must remove the software from the previous device. You can not transfer the software to share licenses between devices.

    Thank you very much

  • Windows 7 OEM Home of home of Windows 10 (OEM)?

    Hello.

I know not if you have a computer that is running Windows 7 Home OEM, you will have to upgrade to Windows 10 Home without problem. Now my question is Windows 7 OEM Home being related, signed, stuck, what ever you call it the computer one its hardware, it was originally installed on, will be 10 Windows Home also linked, signed or linked as well to the same computer? While it will be possible to upgrade some parts a power keep or reinstall Windows 10 after changing the motherboard?

I ask because I thought of upgrading the motherboard, processor and Ram after Windows 10 takes place. I already looked at the configuration required to run Windows 10 one computer can already perform very well. I wonder if the OEM OS all test will be forgotten with Windows 10? So that people who have there computer upgrades or fixes when come out motherboards can easily change motherboards with to worry to buy another copy of Windows, whenever they change or difficulty / swap on a part.

    Thanks in advance.

Because the free update of Windows 10 requires a license of previous qualifications, it will be integrated into this license which resulted in the upgrade.

If you change the motherboard, you will need to invest in a new license Windows 10.

  • Windows 7 OEM 64 bit and OPK kit?

I was told to buy Windows 7 OEM 64 bit. I want it for my own laptop for my own use, mainly for internet, itunes etc. I just saw on the packaging that I must use the OPK to install it, it is essential because I obviously do not have and not was not recommended, I still would.

The OPK is used by professional system integrators to prepare your computer before it is sold to a customer and make sure that things like the EULA is accepted.

OEM licenses must be installed by professional system manufacturers. Under Microsoft's OEM license agreement, they should not be sold to end-users under any circumstances, must be preinstalled on a computer using the preinstallation OEM (OPK) before delivery to the customer and include to the at least the manufacturer contact information. They are, therefore, designed for installation only on a single computer and are not transferable, even if the original computer is no longer in use. This isn't usually a problem for users who buy a new computer, because systems that most pre-assembled systems ship with a preinstalled operating system. There are very few circumstances where Microsoft will allow the transfer of licensed OEM for a non-functional system to another, but the OEM System Builder License Agreement (SBLA), as well as the EULA (EULA) OEM contract don't contain any provision for this, it is entirely at the discretion of Microsoft, depending on the situation
