  AFAIK, you can't transfer 'settings' without going through a working Windows installation, although you could, of course, copy all the files of data, including the 'Favorites' (favorite IE) to X:\Documents and Settings\nom_utilisateur\Favoris (where X: is the letter of the old hard disk).

  Depending on what you want to copy things from the old drive, there are manual methods to retrieve the data; You'll have to ask specific questions.

  Of course, you need to reinstall old programs from original installation media (or the downloaded installation files).

  Just break out the old drive in any old computer as the 'system disk' is not likely to work unless you do a repair installation of Windows, which is becoming more trouble than its worth just to copy the settings of the program.

I had also installed the utilities for the motherboard and graphics card. So, I decided to do a clean install. Each time, it fails during the expansion of the files. The error message is, "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupted or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. "Error code: 0 x 80070570." He gets up to 30% each time. I tried to install for a V300 Kingston SSD (120GB). I also tried another SATA II HDD (750 GB) with the same problems. I downloaded a new ISO and tried to install from that. Yet once, it is not at the same point. I noticed that whenever it creates a partition system reserved 100 MB which is almost full. At one point, I got a message saying that there are about 8 000 MB of free space. (I think that was all trying to manually unzip the files by a tip I found online). I found several suggestions for similar problems, but the solutions proposed did not help. I'm sure it will be a simple solution, but I'm out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

  If Memtest86 fails then you need to get into the BIOS and set the RAM timing.  Memtest86 + displays the calendar then use the value displayed and compare to the real specs for your memory.  Also, you may need to increase the voltage to the RAM (in BIOS) place a small amount.

  My Win 7 Home Premium Dell Studio T435/9000 dead.  It was a motherboard problem, I chose not to replace the CPU/Mo with a duplicate.  The hard disk MBR is good, I could read it and when I installed in an Optiplex 990 at work, it is initialized.

  I had the chance to receive a new Dell T5610 with 2 CPUs of a parent.  It came with professional Win7 preinstalled on an SSD, UEFI boot on a GPT disk.  But all my apps are absent and even a rat-pack obsessives like me do not have all the CD and install the files for the various applications on the old hard drive.

  I want to use my old hard drive on the new PC, then after that it's stable, migrate the old hard drive to the SS disc supplied with the PC.

  First problem was to learn the differences between MBR and GPT.  After this was learning that Home Premium does not work on a PC with two separate processors.  I use Win7 professional for that.  With the help of this forum, I was able to do this by using the Optiplex 990.  I run Win7 Professional on the Optiplex 990.

  I take the former home of hard disk go BIOS to legacy.  Old hard drive that boots on 990, does not start on T5610.

  I try various advanced options, safe mode, low-resolution video, nothing works.  I get a BSOD is a hard drive error, STOP 040000007 B.

  I try Startup Repair tool and get the following:

  Thanks to you all.  But the solution was completely different.

  Dell said the motherboard on the accuracy was so different from my old PC that unless I reinstalled Win7 Professional from scratch on the old hard drive, motherboard would not work with the old hard drive.

  They have guaranteed that the old hard drive would work on a 8700 XPS.  After some problems, I managed to do the work.  Problem solved.

  Hmm. check that you can start the Windows Installer service and it is enabled.

  1. Click Start > run...
  2. Type cmd /K net start MSIServer
  3. Press enter and monitor messages in the window of the console open.

  If the service is started successfully, then download the offline version of the WLE from here and try to install it. Select all items to install because they are dependent on each other.
  Download the new log file, if it fails to install again.

  If the program is not compatible, then you try to install and run the program in compatibility mode. However, not all software for earlier operating systems will run on the new platform for Windows 7.

  Try using the following steps:

  (1) right click on the program

  2) click Properties

  3) click on the Compatibility tab

  (4) select run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or other operating system, the program has been run successfully.

  Well, I ended up installing FF ESR, and I found the old behavior.

  I backed up my current installation, and then just installed above my current ESR. (Make sure the folder installation points is the same as where FF is already installed) No problem at all - Favorites, settings, and modules were all still there. Piece of cake.
