Windows 7 UAC and shortcuts
I created shortcuts to several Regina REXX programs, and they run without interference of the UAC. But when I copy the same shortcuts in my favorites folder and try to run an any of these that I get the familiar and annoying message "do you want to open this file?", referring to the .lnk file. The Compatibility Administrator is without help because it only allows me to select the .exe files. Why these copied shortcuts behave exactly like the originals? Thank you.
There are a few things here that don't ring true, for example
- How did you create a shortcut in c:\Program Files (x 86) \Tools? UAC will not let you do this!
- Why did you create a shortcut? Shortcuts must be on the desktop (where you can easily reach) or in the Start Menu.
- Why would you store a shortcut in the Favorites folder? Its purpose is to store Internet Explorer Favorites!
I recommend you do this:
- Start Windows Explorer.
- Navigate to the folder that contains regina.exe.
- Click right regina.exe.
- Click on "send to", then select the desktop as the destination.
- Right-click the newly created on the desktop shortcut, and then add the REXX as a parameter.
Does this solve your problem?

UAC Trust shortcut 1.0 = > Autostart
A few weeks ago their was no avoid Windows 7 when I had to buy some laptops and PCs for friends. Not wanting to disable UAC, I started imidiately looking for a program for launching some existing programs without the hated UAC prompt.
Eventally, I found UAC Trust shortcut 1.0. It lets you make shortcuts (like a white list), which grow more.
The only downside is that you need to start the UAC Trust shortcut-service manually, each time the computer is restarted.Anybody know a way how to automatically restart this service?
TIA, Jem.
P.s. I've tried the way Planning task on the tracer.exe found in the installation folder, but nothing helped.

All program files and shortcuts from the "Start" menu disappeared
I use Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2) (64-bit). Two days back, I've updated my windows. After restarting the PC, all program files and shortcuts in Start menu disappeared. The shortcuts that I myself had added manually do not work.
Have you tried to do the restore of the system in SafeMode as stated in my answer 1 to you?
If it doesn't/does not work:
If you do not want to repost in the Windows Update Forum (they are the specialists it for the best advice regarding your problem), make this disc Bootable startup repair and use it to do a system restore or uninstall the updates by using the method 2nd in my 1st reply:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

To set the off timer, you enter the txt-> shutdown.exe s t - 45 c "your message".
the '-t 45"is for seconds, you can change the 45 to any number you want.
And the '-'your message' c is the message that you want to add. "
Keep in mind, when you add a message (optional), you put quotes in there-c 'your message '.
Then after--> the name of the shortcut
Click Finish.
If you want to add the icon of stop button for the shortcut that you do a right click on the shortcut-> properties-> tab 'Shortened'-> change icon. You find in the bottom of your tab "shortcut" in the properties.
If you want a command that gives you a 10 seconds timer to turn off your PC, here's the command...

You can put whatever you want in the ('message'-c), and (-s H0).

How can I share files between Windows 7 Pro and a Mac with os x?
I have Windows 7 Professional and my colleague had a Mac with os x installed. We are physically in the same room, sharing a wifi connection. How to share files between two computers? That each of them should do on his computer?
If you display links, please check beforehand that the procedure for the mac is here. I found in the internet or other of the procedures for older systems Win or network only between Win 7 PCs.
MOSH
Of course, you can do it easily. In fact, the implementation of sharing on Win7 last month was almost as easy as it is on OS X. ;-) I find that the snow leopard has the same bugginess of show Windows machines only randomly in the sharing of the Finder section, as it did in Leopard, however. I usually connect to Windows machines by opening a window of Finder and using go > connect to server > smb://Windows-computer-name instead. In the Win7 box, I have the network to the desktop icon (you can get this to customize > change icon).
On OS X, make sure you have checked in the file sharing system preferences > sharing. Click the Options button, and then select "share files and folders using SMB." Add the shared directories as you wish.
You must create accounts/passwords user on the Mac and Windows 7. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop in Win7 (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this.
Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UACUncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).
You can find options to logon automatically for OS X in system preferences > accounts.
On Win7, go to control panel > all items in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You do not want to use Homegroup.
Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
Plug the password protected sharingConfigure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, Configuration File and Printer Sharing ON will take care of that for these machines, and if you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine. With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.
OS X Firewall is done in System Preferences > Security. Click the lock to make changes, and then click the Advanced button to ensure that SMB sharing is allowed. If you set up in the share pod, it will be.
On Win7, create shares as desired. I usually just share the Public, users desktop folder and all hard drives of additional data in the system. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

PROBLEM: ACTION CENTER > SECURITY > USER ACCOUNT CONTROL FREEZES AND REMAINS OFF - I CAN'T CHANGE THE UAC LEVEL. It won't let me change to always warn me - the recommended setting, and I can't go beyond that! The window closed either! I'm trying to close the window by clicking end task in Task Manager - it takes several attempts before / if it can close this frozen window... BUT THE KEY IS THAT I CAN'T CHANGE THE UAC LEVEL - THE SCREEN FREEZES AS SOON AS I GLIDE TO ALWAYS WARN ME - HELP? * NOTE: a few times after the Task Manager tried to close the window without success, I saw a box pops up that says: Manager of COM surrogate has stopped responding... he tries to fix - as if Windows stops responding, and he tries to recover or fix the problem. I would like any help or information please, as to why I can't change this setting, even after I give an administrator password, you are prompted, to say good make - when I am logged in as a standard user. Help? Thank you!
Hi Shellzak,
Thanks for posting this question in the Microsoft Community!
I understand that you can not change the UAC settings on the computer and the system hangs. I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. Rest assured that I will do my level best to help you.
Did you of recent changes to the computer before the show?
I suggest the following method and check if it helps to solve the problem.
I suggest you try to activate UAC from the command line and check if it helps.
(a) open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.
(b) run this command
Reg.exe ADD HKLM/v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1/f
Registry warning: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/
It will be useful. For any other corresponding Windows help, do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help you.

Hi all
I found answers to my question on "Windows 7 Help Forums" http://www.sevenforums.com/> and a program to recreate and fix all the original Windows 7 hubs and symlink [attributes and security properties (full)], called 'Junction box' [site Web of Documentation: http://iwrconsultancy.co.uk/junctionbox>; and the download Web site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/junctionbox/?source=dlp>].
I also found that there are more original than those listed above junctions. My advice is to remove all the junctions, you could have recreated manually (or move them to your backup drive) before running "JunctionBox.exe" (using its configuration file "DefaultJunctions.ntj"). Then run it two or three times; because it is not recreate all the original joints the first time you run it. It recreates the together the legacy of windows (see below), by default (C:\Users\Default), all users (C:\Users\All) and the current user (C:\Users\%UserName%), junctions on the first throw, but not the junctions of temp (C:\Users\Temp) and their targets. - you must re-create the junction target temp manually, yourself, if you want them to run.
Here is MY updated 'Junction Box' 'DefaultJunctions_2.ntj' list of configuration files (list of all the original Windows 7 junctions):
; ===(Start of List) =.
; A list of the standard set of junctions in Vista and Windows 7, for the purpose of repair.
;
; The notation is as follows:
; Section headers are userprofile-records unless otherwise noted by a full path.
; Paths starting with a-specify a full path to the system root. (Usually C:\)
; Starting paths by are relative to the container profile. (Usually C:\users)
; Location paths and junction target are compared to [value] section header without qualifier.
; Default profile settings apply to all generic users when profiles are repaired.
; You can add sections for specific users, if it is not normally necessary.
; Wildcard characters or macros other that those listed above are not allowed.
; Junctions will be created using the target-full paths, regardless of the values relative or complete here.
; Note: Non-English speaking users will need to create their own file, sorry.[General]
; Displays warning if incompatible OS or system-language is found.
OSVersions = WIN_VISTA, WIN_7, WIN_2008, WIN_2008R2, WIN_LONGHORN
OSLanguages = 0409, 0809; Force the creation of junctions in system or user files, or both.
; = 1 recreates (parts of)-structure of profile folders missing. Relatively safe to use.
; = 2 strength deletes any file, folder or the junction occupying the location target.
; -valuable when it comes to corrupt junctions, but use them carefully because may delete data.
; Default value is to leave alone the existing junctions and add only those missing, but set correct permissions on all.
SystemForceCreation = 0
UserForceCreation = 0; The following sections refer to disk files and necessary for each, junctions as JunctionName = JunctionTarget.

How to: rotate screen in Windows 7 by a shortcut.
original title: rotating screen in Windows 7 by a shortcut. Others say that Shift + Alt + arrows should do the trick. However, only of dialogue "-the control panel display" works for me.
There are two reasons for shortcuting the task:
- Have you tried to run a GUI GUI is on tour?
- The option is expected to use the rotating monitors - some texts are easier to read in portrait mode, others in the landscape. This suggests that reversal is supposed to take place dozens of times every day.
What Miss me?
Several months have passed since this thread was started, and a lot of things have happened.
I had the same problem with an ATI Radeon card. Here's how I solved it:-The latest version of Catalyst Control Center;
-in the main screen, you have the "Préférences" button click it
-Click on the first option ("Hotkeys" or similar, I have Italian, don'know exactly what the English name)
-In the list, double-click the items that you want to enable and assign a hotkey (for example CTRL-ALT + cursor). The ones meant to rotate the screen are the first four.
-Click OK. Total time required: about 2 minutes.Enjoy! :-)
