  I installed Windows 7 Home Premium (OEM one) on my computer and then upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate (also OEM) some time last year.   Is the product key for the edition on the sticker at the bottom of the laptop COST corresponds to which edition of Windows 7 installed?

  My question is rather unusual. I see a lot of questions and answers online, what to do if you have lost your original Windows install disks, but I need to know what to do if I "lost" the computer and disks.

  The situation is that I am trying to build my own computer and he was looking through the software on the shelves to see what we had. Well, I fell on an original Windows 7 Ultimate (not OEM and not upgrade) installation disc in its original packaging, including the product key sticker.   Nothing unusual.  This should apply for 99% of users.

  The solution is that, somehow, this machine hardly used became totally corrupt.  Wifi networking stopped and activation has been confused.

  So a factory full reset (nothing else would do) and then everything worked correctly.

  Lessons

  • The system report Windows-X of the activation status is significant noise and not only.  If it says not active there is a real problem to solve, even if the tricks of metro says it is activated.
