Windows 7 update Hung?

I just bought a used Dell laptop Windows 7.

It seems there was a problem before getting updates existing. After much research I finally got it to work today. It took from 04:30 until 09:30 download the 165 updates. When you are prompted to restart, I got a notice to cancel and close the updater open to continue, which I did. I went to restart and was invited to again cancel because the music to stop trying to play, which I did. Now nearly 2 hours later I'm still looking wallpaper desktop, no icons, no way to restart it. The lights flash randomly and sometimes burning regular. THE QUESTION... Is it updated or attempt to restart? What should I do?

I understand that you don't see any activity on the screen after updates and I will be happy to answer your query. Let me ask you;

  • Have you received a message saying Windows updates have been installed?
  • Have you tried to disable the power button and restart?
  • What security software is installed on the computer?
  • Do you have installation for Windows 7 media?
  • You have the external devices connected to the computer?

Video card problems are the most common cause of this problem. However, there are several other reasons for this cause, including software not allowing security updates, do not configure any external device conflict, graphics driver being damaged/missing/old etc. Let's try the methods below and check.

Method 1: Remove any external device connected to the computer (except the mouse and keyboard.

Method 2: Restart the computer in safe mode and do back the graphics card driver

Safe mode is an option of troubleshooting for Windows that starts your computer in a limited State. Only basic files and drivers needed to run Windows are started. The words Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you are using.

(1) remove all unnecessary devices in your computer, such as printers, scanners and removable storage devices.

(2) restart the computer.

(3) keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears.

(4) to select Safe Mode, and then press enter.

(5) if we could log into the system in safe mode, please go to Device Manager, right click on your device in the list and select Properties; then click on driver tab and click on the button return to the previous version .

Note: in Safe Mode, your display and office system will look and perform differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary.

Method 3: Reinstall your video driver

  1. Right-click the taskbar, and then click Open Task Manager.

  2. Click on the processes tab, click explorer.exe, and then click end process.

  3. Click fileand then click on new task (run).

  4. In the text box open, type explorer.exe, and then click OK.

  5. Click on the Start button , go into the Device Manager in the start search box, and then, in the search results, click on Device Manager.
  6. Double-click display adapters, right click the display device, click Update driver software, and then follow the steps in the wizard that appears.

Note: After the driver is re-installed, you may need to restart your computer to complete the installation. You may also need to adjust the resolution of the display to its previous value. For more information, see change your screen resolution.

Method 4: Search for registry problems

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.   1. Click on the Start button , type regedit in the search box, and then, in the search results, click on regedit.exe.

  2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

  3. Click to select the WinLogon key and then in the right pane, click on Shell. The value of shell in the data column must be explorer.exe. If the value of Shell is not explorer.exe, double-click Shell, and then, in the value data text field, type explorer.exe, and then click OK.

  4. Close the registry editor and restart your PC.

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a bootdisk of it.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.

    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

    So I thought another reboot may solve the problem, but it doesn't... it keeps just hung to this window.

    I had this same problem on both machines. During his connection, this behavior began immediately after the KB980408 update has been installed. The solution I found is to ctrl + alt + delete, start taskmgr and kill the task of custom settings.     Thank you very much for your quick response. Yes, there are ways to find the product # and the n ° of the device.

    • On the desktop, (first screen of windows with all programs closed) Please press this key combination to bring up the system information which will also give the product # of the unit. Please, note it and n ° of the series unit. Don't post not your n ° of set of information on HP forums. Press the fn key (function key) and press "ESC" on the keyboard at the same time to bring up this information.
    • You may also locate in the bios. Please turn the unit off.  Wait a few seconds and as soon as you put it towards the up keep pressing the "Esc" key immediately, gently several times.
    • It will bring up the start menu. Then press the F10 key to go into the bios. The bios will also give the serial number information and product.
    • A third way to locate the product # would be to power down the device. Unplug the charger and remove the battery.  Then use a flashlight to look inside the compartment to locate the product #.

    Hello

    I did now 2 installs fresh with the HP recovery discs and both windows update does not work. I tried different patches from microsoft that I found online in this regard and nothing works.

    I don't know if it's related, but said SP1 is installed, but when I look in the installed updates it isn't here. If I try to uninstall from a command promt it says is not installed and if I try to install it from the microsoft download it says it is installed.

    It makes me crazy. I was expecting it to work from a clean install, but it doesn't.

    Any help would be great.

    If it says SP1 is included, it means it is included and comes with the system, so you can not unintall it - it is part of the system - built in. You will not see the updates installed because it's built, do not subsequently installed.

    It is a known problem that now when you perform a clean installation of Windows 7, the installation updates will be delayed. This is due because of many things including the fact that W7 is more priority Microsoft because of new OS on the juice of the horizon: like Windows 10. Some users have reported that after the new facility it may take hours of waiting until Windows 7 poster updates are available. But don't worry - they are not that critics and you shouldn't worry so much for them.

    I can offer a workaround is to:

    -Download directly from MS "April 2015 battery maintenance update" and install it manually

    This update package, which combines updates dating all the way back to February 2011, is not be made available in Windows Update. If you install a Windows 7 system from scratch, you will need to go out of your way to download and install it. If you do not, Windows Update will download and install the updated way on day one by one, the slower, more tedious.

    You have now all the updates of Windows 7 since its initial release until may 2016

    After that, you try to install the new updates.

    N ' tried microsoft 'Fix - it' no results.

    -updated the drivers intel, no results.

    -Downloaded System Update Readiness of windows to resolve the error (Windows6 1 - KB982018 - v3 - x 64). When installing, I get the error 0xc8000247. So I'm not able to install this software.

    Looked after errors in the CBS.log newspaper: found M²: cannot read the time value RptTime from the registry. [HRESULT = 0 X 80070490 ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

    Do a clean boot, without result.

    Does anyone know a solution to this problem.

    Windows 7, update services does not, RESOLVED.

    The problem occurs when you change your hard drive for a bigger, in my hard drive of the case a GB Western Digital 340 WD 750 GB drive hard.

    For the Windows automatic updates again you need update the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driverdriver. It will not be updated when you have intel check your drivers! For me, only the 9.5.6.1001 version worked. This driver can be found at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02219204 .

    You can try to install the updates in Mode without failure.  To do this, please follow the instructions below.

    When the computer restarts, press F8 while it is starting up.
    In the Advanced Boot Menu of Options, select Mode safe mode with networking
    Once the computer starts in Mode safe, it will hopefully install the updates that you have problems with.  If this does not work, try the following steps to perform a system restore.

    1. Insert your Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive and start your computer

    2. Press any key when the message "press any key to boot from the CD or DVD shows on the screen.

    3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next.

    4. click on repair your computer.

    5. in the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the drive of your Windows installation and click Next

    6. in the System Recovery Options dialog box, click System Restore.

    7. follow the System Restore Wizard and choose the appropriate restore point.

    8. click Finish to restore the system.

I think I found the answer. My Norton Internet security and Antivirus had expired. When I got Windows security updates, I had no program to receive these updates. I had to keep doing updates on Norton security until I received the message "no new updates were found" after that, I got all the new definitions and update of WIndows was allowed to install thanks to the new KB for your help.
