  I suggest you follow these methods and check.

  Method 1: Run the fixit.

  The problem with Microsoft Windows Update is not working:

  Method 2: Run the clean boot and install the updates.

  To do this, follow the steps in this link:

  NOTE: After you check the clean boot feature configure Windows to use a Normal startup using step 7 proposed in the above mentioned link.

  If the method above does not work, proceed to the next method.

  Method 3: download and install the Cumulative update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB982480) from this link.

  Method 4: Rename the Software Distribution folder.

  Note If the problem is resolved and you can successfully download and install the updates, you can safely remove the SoftwareDistribution.old folder to recover disk space.

  -> 8 Windows freshly installed hp recovery disk. (the computer is a HP ENVY dv6-7299sf)

  When this update (published February 8, 2011) has failed on my system, I searched for help and have already tried:
  -deactivation of my AV (ESET NOD32) program;
  -uninstall my AV program.
  -the update running with a 'clean' system (only MS services running, according to msconfig.exe);
  -Download of the SSM of microsoft Web site that works with wusa, same error.
  -you try to run in safe mode with network (which would not allow msi service) even if this has been suggested by a microsoft article.  Even after the addition of MSI 'Service' of SafeBoot in the registry (for experts to understand what these are).

  I have Vista 32-bit with SP2, have not run chkdsk, sfc, no error. Other updates went through before and after this one.

  If IE9 builds on this update I will not be able to go to IE9, when available.

  Anyone else having this problem, or is it just my system?

  I recently resurrected from a bad disk (now on a new one).  I got bit by bit, re - install everything, but it's still the early days.

  I had exactly the same problem and did exactly the same as LemonadeAust.
