Windows 7, updates takes forever

OK, so I recently bought a computer. It is refurbished and I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 because it is Windows 7 and I love the way Windows 10 looks. in any case I order to get Windows 10 I check for updates and I did and waited a few hours and it maintains simply check it says that he has never checked for updates of what it means it will take a long time so he could check or is there something wrong please help if anyone can.

You may need to wait 24 hours or so that the updates of Windows 7 these days is very slow to download.

A better way is to use the media tool to upgrade:

Download Windows 10 media creation tool

Simply select this option of PC/improvement.

After you download the Windows 10 installation files using this tool, you can upgrade your existing 10 Windows operating system, or you can create the bootable USB drive or DVD to install Windows 10 key later. You can also save the installation files to the ISO in offline mode file format, if you wish.

  • Check for updates takes forever, download runs and runs and does not complete

I am running Windows 7 Premium family with Service Pack 1. Verification of updates runs for hours and sometimes he can't find anything. I ran it last night 29/08/2016 and it took 8 hours to complete. I chose a download of only 75kb and it worked for four hours (0 KB and 0% complete) 30/08/2016. Last updates were installed with success was the 28/08/2016 21:18, since then these are the problems that I had with.  Is the best thing to (restore to an earlier point in time) or remove the installed updates? Is there something I otherwise should I do to correct this situation. I seem to be other problems. Appreciate any help.

  • Windows updates take forever...

    Dear Sirs,

I have a windows Vista computer, and lately I'm trying to fix these windows problems to update on my own mistakes. I am trying to find answers on the Web sites, but whenever I'm digging into the problems, a new error keeps appearing.

It seems that I missed files on the windows updates, or some files in the registry are incorrect, and now windows updates keep loading for ever... I even don't see the c:\windows\system32\catroot folder on my PC that is bound to the windows updates.

Can you please tell me what to do? Windows updates are really important to the PC, so I really need the assistance of an expert in the field with my windows updates.

    Looking forward for your answer,

    Frank

  • Defragment drive in HP Assistant update takes forever.

I use HP Assistant development on pc Pavilion Elite e9260f, and the session to defragment took more than 16 hours.   The computer has an i5 processor and a 1 TB hard drive. Is this normal?

    Indywalkers, welcome to the forum.

No, this seems to be abnormal.  I suggest stop defragmentation and try to use Disk Defragmenter in system tools; Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Defragmenter.  I just defragged my HDD (500 GB) in less than 10 minutes.  It can a little longer if your HARD drive has not been defragmented for awhile.

NOTE: When I used support Assistant to defragment my HARD drive failed.  It worked perfectly using the method I suggested above.

Please let us know if this solved your problem or not.

Tried troubleshooting, but check the updates going on for hours without success. Someone help please?

    Hi David (Rollo) Jones:

Many of SP2 for Vista and Win 7 SP1 users currently have the same problem.  Most of the users in VistaForums thread windows update just seems to hang when checking for ScousaJAY found that 'updates...' will be finally completed and the report that the updates are available for download if you leave Windows Update running for several hours.

Because this does not work for you, see the step-by-step instructions posted on 16 June 2016 wire m #l's updates does not, he has been looking for updates for hours.

These instructions are based on the instructions on the page Web of Dalai Search for Windows Updates takes forever?-a possible solution http://wu.krelay.de/en/ and take you through the process of finding a Windows kernel-mode driver (Win32K.sys) updates currently absent from your system, download the standalone update packages (.msu file) from the Microsoft Download Center and pre installation of these missing updates (in order from oldest to the most recent) before running Windows Update in order to install your remaining updates.  This work around usually decreases "checking for updates..." a few hours to ~ 20 min.

If you have completely connected from may 2016 there should be only a lack Win32K.sys update - KB3161664 - you must install before running Windows Update to install remaining this month dozen or so June 2016 Patch updates Tuesday.

  • I try to download the update of 150 and it takes forever! Why Windows 7 update is so slow?

I have a few updates to download and install, but it seems that I can't. Always 0% current even after a few hours of "Download".  I cancelled it and now I ticked the box with smaller update (about 150) and wait more than 10 minutes. Nothing happens. It worked well a few updates ago that happened?

    Edit:

I left my place for a few hours, when I came back that update was installed successfully, but a few hours of 150 of ffs, update? I have to keep my PC for an entire day to install those who are heavy 50 MB?

Please make all below even if you have done some before as it is often the set of operations which solves
    the question.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
