  I recently bought a [Toshiba L650/0E8 laptop | http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/notebooks/satellite/l650/psk1ja-0e8017] and accidentally installed the 32-bit version of Windows 7.

  I saved an image of "recovery" from my computer in 4 DVD-R using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. I need to use Adobe Master Collection CS5, but this requires the 64-bit edition to use first Pro CS5 and After Effects CS5. I've put together by reading some articles on the net that I have to do a 'clean' install, but as I've always had a technician set up my computer and have never used a Toshiba laptop before, I'm unaware on how to backup all my files, programs, drivers, etc. before reinstall Windows 7 to a 64-bit version.

  -What do these recovery DVD? Is there anywhere I can download the software/drivers for the 64-bit version Toshiba? I apologize if these questions sound really stupid. Honestly, I'm rather confused as to what to do.

  First of all I have to say it s even though you created the Toshiba recovery disc as mentioned in the user manual. :)
  Some other users here forget it because they don t read their user's manual.

  Anyway, with this record, you can restore the pre-installed Windows version (Windows 7 64 bit) with all the drivers and tools. That means you n t need additional drivers and Toshiba, all tools will be installed automatically. You get out of adjustment of the rear housing.

  But if you use the Toshiba Recovery disk it will wipe the entire HARD drive, then you will need to make a backup of all your important files that you should always after installing Windows.
  This is why I would recommend an external HARD drive. They offer a lot of space to save all your data and with some models, you also backup software, but you can also use the built-in Windows backup tool, it s also nice and works well.

  Yes, you can use this DVD Windows 7 Home Premium retail because it was Home Premium you had before.  If you have 64-bit Windows 7 before, then you want the 64 bit DVD.  If you have 32 bit Windows 7 before, then you want the 32 bit DVD.  If you have 64-bit Windows 7 before, then you can use the 32-bit DVD if you have no choice and you may never notice the difference.

  When you get to step installation product key, it can be easier to choose the activate later option.

  When it's over, then activate via the Control Panel, [view by - small icons, as applicable], page system.  Falling down and it should then give you instructions to contact for activation of the phone.  If there is no problem with that, you can also get to the activation of the phone by typing slui 4 [not only slui but slui 4] in your Start menu search and then following that area through to get the phone number for your region.

  When you call, you will get an automatic response with the choice to make.  You can hang without make any choices at all and you will possibly connected to a human operator.

  The desktop upgrade assistant DVD works almost the same way as the portable version.  It will check your BIOS and if necessary, install the latest version.  And Yes, insert the DVD after the custom/clean installed.  The drivers and software for your model will be installed.

• Clean install with disk XP Pro on Portege S100?

  Searched everywhere for an answer to this, with conflicting results. I just want to put in the disk of XP Pro volume I and re-install Windows. I'll add then all utils Toshiba and I need later. However the XP disc does not detect the HARD drive in the laptop and adding RAID drivers via a USB key does not help. I wiped the HARD drive and used QPart to have a peek. I am quite confused as to what is happening inside the laptop in terms of hidden partitions, RAID, JBOD and other. I want just a single partition with Windows on it - nothing complicated. Is this too much to ask?

  I recently did a clean install with the disc that came with my Dell XPS6400 (bought in the auction) local computer, which had only "Vista 32bits" written on it and no product key.  I thought I could use the key on the sticker on the underside of the computer OEM license, even if the 2 characters in the 3rd section were partially missing - they had to be one of the other four.  When OEM license was initially considered valid, I realized that I had not yet downloaded a service pack, but after that, he was still to come as being invalid!  Then, I found that the version of Vista that was on the disc was "Home Premium" and the OEM for "Home Basic" license key  Do I have to reinstall the whole system, drivers, etc., in order to establish the upgrade?  (Please say "NO", there is an easier way to do this!    Here's the MGADiag. -I hope it helps.  :-}

  So it's very obvious from the actions of Microsoft that Microsoft aims is not to prevent piracy, but double dependent people when their system fails and requires a re-installation of external media (in which case they upgraded to a SSD, or their recovery partition is wiped out. The percentage of those who just end up buying a retail version of Windows when their disk failed hard is very important, something that adds dramatically to the benefits of Microsoft. It was not the case, they would freely allow users to download an OEM ISO of Windows 8, so that they can recover if their hard drive fails completely, as OEM ISO is useless for a pirate without a license (usually built-in to the motherboard) key and a pirate will have easy access to a copy of Windows 8 without worrying. Again, the only people hurt by these policies are legal users, not pirates.

  Now that piracy is concerned, I further suspect that given poor piracy prevention mechanisms of Microsoft that allow hackers to distribute auto activated copies of Windows 7, etc. that Microsoft would have rather let poor people use a pirated version of Windows to completely block and force them to use Linux that would increase the base of Linux users. So I surmise that they intentionally allow ways for hackers to hack their Windows software anyway, because the poor free moccasins will not pay for Windows do anything because they have simply not the money, yet nevertheless it is in the interest of Microsoft to prevent them moving to Linux because most of the poor is just young, and will later money for licenses of Microsoft. But here again the only systems in question here are systems more alumni who have XP or Vista, licenses while other systems that people are supposedly piracy have valid Windows 7 and 8 license keys that Microsoft wants a double payment for!

  This .iso works with product keys well Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. The main issue is to determine your edition. The edition correct will automatically enter your product key and brings you to the screen of the license agreement. Incorrect editing will ask for a product key.   I was going to do a clean install of windows xp and for this I'll use the drive of the Dell operating system I have.   Dell OEM of Windows version are tied to the computer first it is installed on. That's why the disc and product 'cannot' book key using the CD in Media Center. You can try to use the CD key and product of the media centre but be prepaired ro reinstall XP home if it activates or the device drivers does not not to the configuration of your computer. I used the words "cannot" work I've seen in the past apparently universal CD a Dell for some reason any worked.

  I used a purchased copy of Windows 7 to do a fresh install of Windows 7 installed OEM by using the same key as the OEM.  During the installation it ask for the product key and I had to skip that part until the new facility is completed. The reason to skip the product key during the installation is because it looks like "Invalid product key" or something along that line. Then I right click My Computer\Properties and at the bottom of the page click on change the product key and seized the key for the OEM. He was then accepted and activated Windows. Good luck with it.

  I read your post on the new install of drivers of Win10 and wanted to help.

  As to the first, the upgrade of active Win10 through something known as right digital, install some sense, when you perform an upgrade on the spot on an existing Win7/8/8.1, upgrade reuses the existing product key for activation.  After you confirm that the machine is turned on, you can THEN do a clean install on the same machine.  IF you do a clean install without activating the first, you will not activate your copy of Win10.

  That said, MS released earlier to a new update to Win10 and (allegedly), you should be able to do a clean install with NEW media made from multimedia authoring tool and have it activate using your product key of Win8.1.  But, I haven't read anyone done this yet, is just a rumor at this point.

  As for save the drivers, there's a product excellent freeware called Driver Backup.  After you download and install it, you can then save out all your current drivers on a USB key.  This will make reinstall them later a simple process. I know it works because I use this product myself.

• How can I clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit using a upgrade disc?

  Originally, I had a Windows Vista 64 - bit o/s office.

  I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit o/s

  The first time I ran this 'upgrade', I made the mistake of selecting the option UPGRADE instead of using the CUSTOM option.

  For some time since I've done the 'upgrade' I got BSOD problems including caused by video and WebCam drivers.

  This is why last week, I took the plunge and decided to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit using my UPGRADE disc (the disc is not FULL version)

  I selected CUSTOM

  I saw, I had two partitions:

  Disk 0 Partition 1: Win_RE

  Disk 0 Partition 2: CDrive (c :))

  I couldn't find an option to delete my partitions and perform a new installation.

  I ran this and finished installing fine but did not format my drive and it change named my windows to windows.old. Things seem to be ok on my PC, now that I've done this, and I don't take BSoD right now.

  However, I was told that I should be able to achieve a COMPLETE clean install delete partitions to force the OS to reformat and recreate the C: partition.

  The menu:

  Discount

  Load the driver (I have no idea what is this option)

  To make changes to partitions, restart Windows from the installation disc

  I could not click on an option to delete/reformat my partitions and thus abandoned the process.

  I then let the disc (forgive my ignorance) and restarted the PC. I dropped in the BIOS and set to boot from the DVD drive.

  This did not do anything to bring up the WINDOWS SETUP option. It would simply start Windows after that, I suspect, he couldn't find the exe file to start.

  Thus, while everything seems to work fine, I'm frustrated that I can't run a clean full install like what I'm doing doesn't work.

  If someone is able to give me advice on how I can get the installation routine to show this option which would be more useful.

  Select the disc/s click on Delete

  Click new

  Click on apply

  Click OK

  Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

  Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

  When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

  Click on properties

  Scroll down to the Windows Activation

  Click the link x days before activation.

  Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

  Enter the product key

  Click next

  Select the Activation of the phone

  Click Next when you enter your key page

  Select your country

  Click Next, call the number listed

  Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

  Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

  They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

  Click next to complete the activation.

• Using the media update for windows 7 (from vista), can I now re - install 7 via the clean install option, even if it is the path I have chosen when first installing 7 first?

  With a 7 upgrade version (not the full version) I could not use the upgrade option to install 7 on Vista, because it asked me to uninstall 2 programs that would not work in 7 with installation before you begin.  I couldn't do it because my Windows Installer is missing on my computer. (In fact, I couldn't even run the Windows Upgrade Advisor before proceeding with the installation because this program must be installed on your computer before you can run) So, I chose to use the custom installation and it worked fine, except that my computer is now worse than with vista.
