The disk (with no key) installed Vista Home Premium, and the license key OEM is for... Home Basic!

I recently did a clean install with the disc that came with my Dell XPS6400 (bought in the auction) local computer, which had only "Vista 32bits" written on it and no product key.  I thought I could use the key on the sticker on the underside of the computer OEM license, even if the 2 characters in the 3rd section were partially missing - they had to be one of the other four.  When OEM license was initially considered valid, I realized that I had not yet downloaded a service pack, but after that, he was still to come as being invalid!  Then, I found that the version of Vista that was on the disc was "Home Premium" and the OEM for "Home Basic" license key  Do I have to reinstall the whole system, drivers, etc., in order to establish the upgrade?  (Please say "NO", there is an easier way to do this!    Here's the MGADiag. -I hope it helps.  :-}

The product key on the bottom will work for what he says he is, Windows Home Basic Edition.

Reinstall the correct Systyem, Windows Home Edition basic operation to use this product key.

And Microsoft sells more than Vista.

To reinstall Vista Home Basic read this information.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought, not that one 32-bit, vista, your computer must be on the hard drive to reinstall recovery Partition Vista to how you bought your computer, which may or may not work after the installation of the wrong edition.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • I can't install Vista Home Basic Edition to a HARD disk formatted my installation disc

My computer crashed by a virus. I removed the hard drive, hooked to my Windows 7 computer and formatted the hard drive. I tried for days now all possible variations in the installation menu and it fails every time! Urgh! Very frustrating!

The disc was sent to me by Microsoft a couple of years with a product key. How can I make this work? Please...!

I was on it for a week now. I tried all the bloody configurations that I could think of!

I'll try what you suggested for the tenth time now - it fails every time! I find myself with a message in the upper left corner of the screen: white all type of small letters on a black screen: "no partiton bootable in the table" - no "partition", but "partiton. Just before comes up and locks the computer I see a flash of blue screen that tries to restart the computer. The Bios can be damaged by a virus? If so - how can fix this?

Too bad... Thanks for the reply, Walter. You made me think in a different direction, that is to say, I realized that the virus was in the CMOS. So I simply removed the battery and moved the RTC Ram rider to clear the clock, so to speak. Boom! It worked! Computer has started in the setup of Vista no probs... 1 million thank - you.

  • Fresh install Vista Home Basic - updates failed, Progs do not install, error, error, error! Why?

Home awhile, its infuriating! Fresh installation using recovery disks on-line manufacturer on a disk that is not partitioned. Active but will not install updates and applications such as avast antivirus and it not install ms office.  Nothing but errors.  Have tried absolutely everything, including independent installers for essential applications and always error.  Can someone please tell me why or how the these persistent problems can be solved?  The only thing I can think is that the laptop was sold with Vista Basic initially, but the new recovery discs, ordered and received from Fujitsu for this model were sp1 Vista Basic?  The diskettes of origin provided by the store at the time of the purchase were defective.

  • Impossible to Vista Home Basic to Vista Home Premium. Don't want to do a clean install. How to get around this problem?

just bought an upgrade to Vista Home Premium with service pack 1.  I'm upgrading to Vista Home Basic.  The program tells me that the upgrade has been disabled and he wants to do me a clean install.  I really don't want to do a clean install.

If your installed Vista Home Basic has recently installed Service Pack 2 > uninstall Vista Service Pack 2 for him >

Do your upgrade to Home Premium Service Pack 1 > then redownload/reinstall Vista Service Pack 2 again.

And make sure your Vista installed and the upgrade of Vista are the versions both either 32-bit or 64-bit, depending on what is your Vista Basic.

Click Start > right click on computer > properties > Info is if your Vista is 32-bit or 64-bit Vista.

How to get Vista recovery Media or the Vista recovery Partition on your computer back to factory settings.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
