Windows 8.1 idle overheating

Hello

first of all, I'm sorry for my English, this is not my first language.

I have problem with my new HP ProBook 450 G1 (I bought two weeks ago). When I'm working, everything is fine. The CPU temperature is rarely above 50 degrees Celsius. Most of the time about 45. When I leave my computer, after about 2 minutes temperature going high around 70 degrees. I thought that there is a background process, but I killed almost all external applications and in the Task Manager nothing uses the processor. What is going on?

I use Windows Pro 8.1 (Student Edition of Dreamspark)

I can add that in Linux (Suse), everything is fine.

I solved this problem.

I noticed this problem does not exist when I opened the Task Manager. So I threw one, and on top, I got Skype (Skype was an active window) and I saw after five minutes of the solve.exe process that used 98% of my processor. I found the file on my disk and removed the whole Math Problem Solver.

Maybe it helps someone else.

  • Windows 7 64 bit using 3 GB of 8 GB RAM when idle.

I've noticed recently that Windows 7 64 bit using 3 GB of RAM slowed.  When I start first of all, the use of the RAM is about 1.2 GB or more.  However, after that my computer has been for some time, that number slips slowly up to 3 GB without me all other running programs.  I thought it could be virus/spyware/malware, so I formatted and did a new install.  The same day as the new installation, I noticed the same behavior.

Is this normal?  Windows 7 is recommended to use 3GB 8 GB inactive?

Thanks in advance for any help!

My issue was not with Windows 7 using large amounts of RAM "at random".  The question I saw consisted of RAM usage to leave about 1 GB and slowly creeping up to 3 GB and stay there until I rebooted.

Through several days of trail and error, I found the problem.  In general, I use a download manager to download files (free download manager, FDM).  There is apparently a problem with FDM and Windows 7 I have observed that the question of the RAM with FDM run and I have yet to observe with FDM, no matter what I do.  Either way, I used this same version of FDM Windows XP and never had any problems with the use of the RAM.  Therefore, I'm not sure if it's a FDM problem or a problem with running on Windows 7 FDM (although my experience with FDM and XP leads me to believe that there is a problem with FDM running on Windows 7).
Without FDM running Windows 7 RAM use is between 880 MB and 1.5 GB.  Everyone know the RAM on this amount use likely has several processes that run in the background as Windows 7, when idle, should never require more than that.
  • How to reset forgotpassword for windows

Original title: after Windows updated PC had to be open with password that I forgot. How can I reset my password without a disk?

After the latest version of Windows Update has been installed and the PC has restarted a window requested my password to open the PC.

I forgot my password at the time and wanted to reset my password, but must activate with a floppy disk in drive A, which I did not.

I changed my boot sequence from CD opening to reload my Windows operating system to see if that might solve the problem.

Only found wallpaper with the pointer of the mouse of the active window. Windows has been idle. I eventually found my password and reset the same settings as the previous.

If the new laptop Windows 8, I guess I would still be able to restore my Windows 7 system image, and only after that I would have all my files and programs in Windows 7 on the new laptop. So I would be able to reuse the product key of Windows 8 that came with the laptop for the re-upgrade to Windows 8 and have all my programs and files in Windows 8?

    Hello

According to the description, I understand that you want to restore the image of Windows 7 in Windows 8.

I wish to inform you that unfortunately you would not be able to restore the image of Windows 7 in Windows 8. However as a work around you can copy all of your data on a hard disk that is eternal and then pasted in the Windows 8.

I would also like to inform you that product key Windows 8, which receive you with the new laptop, you will not be able to use for the process to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

Carefully blow out the fan (all stop & unplugged) and heat with compressed channel.  Do not use on soft surfaces.  If they do not help it may be time to have the "thermal paste" re-applied that needs to be done by a pro.

You can also add a 'cooling' pad which dropped my time of 10F

Have you added extra RAM for laptop? Maybe the RAM is not compatible or has a problem. You can test the RAM with Memtest (bootable CD)

Windows can get damaged over time due to bad judgments etc... It may be a good idea to save your documents and run Toshiba Recovery to restore Windows back to its factory condition.

If the RAM passes the test and the gel is always held on a Windows factory installation completely fresh, then it is probably a hardware problem.

    What version of Windows?

For 10 windows, change the idle time does take to the screen saver turns on then turns off password on resume protection.

For other versions of Windows, the process is very similar. Do it from Control Panel > (appearance and personalization > personalization > screen saver.)

I tried to increase the fan speed you programs 'ATI Tray Tools', has not helped.

Please help me with my problem. Sorry for my English

    Hello

The drivers of Toshiba laptops are a bit different and not the same thing as the drivers from the manufacturer of the graphics card.
The original ATI drivers are made for office use and not for mobile use. Drivers Toshiba takes supported thermal protection that allows to control the performance of gpu and the dissipation of the heat.
If you want to use a page ATI driver then your GPU could create more heat as usual which leads to the unexpected shutdown.

I installed Win 7 on my A210. I didn't install the driver of ATI graphics card because the Win 7 automatically recognizes the graphics chip.
After installation, I went to the Device Manager. Then, I chose the graphics chip and looked for the driver automatically. Windows has found the right driver and installed this
Since the unit works perfectly with Win 7

  • Pavilion laptop g6: 10 laptop is overheating since the loading of windows of ideas?

    Hello

Since Windows 10 loading on my laptop the laptop is over heating and the fan will continue cutting in the sense, when I had Windows 8.1 I had no problem.

No idea why it is now overheating with Windows 10?, it's too much for my laptop and I have to take off and return to Windows 8.1.

    Thank you very much

    Hello

  • Overheating issued with newly installed Windows 7 x 64-Satellite L350D - 10Z

I just upgraded from vista to Windows 7 x 64 on my laptop Satellite L350D 10Z.
Unfortunaly I have had overheating issues since.

The computer began to stop himself after awhile of use, I downloaded speedfan and discovered that the cell was operating at 95 degrees Celsius while playing games, I chose in speedfan that fans would go to 100% at all times

I also downloaded the latest BIOS update but I still read temperatures ranging from 75 to 85 degrees Celsius, the laptop has stopped to close itself to overheat, but it still don't feel safe.

    Is this a known issue?
What can I do keep the temperature down?

    Hello

The temperature seems to be too high and this is the reason why your laptop stops automatically.
You said that what happens during the game
During games all appliances are running with maximum performance and create a lot of heat dissipation

Clock graphics Toshiba down driver the GPU if a threshold has been reached
Other drivers don't support this overheating of procreation.
Therefore, you should use the Toshiba graphics card driver!
Other drivers may be used but only at your own risk!

In addition, it must ensure that the unique cooling grids are dust-free and fresh air could circulate properly never use the laptop on the lap, couch or bet that it would close the vents and could lead to overheating!

  • Lenovo Ideapad y480 CPU overheating with Windows 8

I just decided to switch to windows 8! I love the new OS, but there seems to be some driver problem with my installation. I reinstalled the operating system three times, and I get the same result.

The system seems to work at highert CPU temperatures. 7, he had run at 49 - 55 c, only go to 62 degrees brief moments when I opened photoshop. Now, however, the system goes around c. 49 to 62 when something happens (IE, more tabs of two brower). And then of course the fan has kick.

I installed all the drivers for Windows 8 in proper order as downloadd by lenovo, with the exception of the synaptic and the realtek drivers, that I got from their Web sites. I have any utility installed, including the management of energy.

And I know that this is not a hardware failure, since I just got this back from repair and tested it quite well.

Any ideas what to try next? I don't think I can go back to 7 now.

    Solution!

I was about to give up, but I realized that, in standby mode, the computer was not overheated. I went through the settings one by one, and found the principal who was the culprit. Under Settings Advanced > processor Performace, I changed Performance Minimum of 100 to 99%. It works as fast, and the temperature is much more stable.

However, intel HD is still below normal from what it was on 7, so I hope that there is an update that will improve performance.

  • ProBook 4440 s cleanly put to upgrade to 8.1 Windows overheating 64bits

I took my Probook s 4440 which comes preinstalled with windows 7 64 bit (2 years ago) use it with an SSD in the last 8 months.

A week ago I did the following:

    1. open Notepad

2 - took the time to thoroughly clean all vents and fans. almost no dust was found.

3 - do you have a clean install of Windows MS 8.1 64bits.

4 installed MS Office bloatware and other applications.

5 - installed 'certain' HP utilities like power plan a selected balanced both plugged and unplugged

Since I upgraded to 8.1, I noticed that the computer overheats to the point if freezes or slow down.

As for the fan, I noticed that the fan starts at random (or not) when the computer is overheating.

I noticed that the overheating starting on hard drive (to the left of the mouse pad)

If I put my hand on the left vents, I can feel the hot air coming out.

No, its not heavy CPU usage. Sometimes, the laptop is slow but hot.

    Questions

Can what spare parts I use to replace the fan with a greater RPM?

How can I control the fan to be always on (I really don't mind a bit of noise in order to save my investment)

Am I missing some HP software that will control the overheating?

I see that HP has no fan control application and internet tools such as SpeedFan seem not to be able to manage the fan.

It's a workbook perfectly. Suggestions are welcome.

    Thank you

does anyone have a little app to control fan for some probooks (HPFanControl).

Personally, I would go back to windows 7, windows 8 - 8.1 has a lot of problems & bad drivers.

    Hello PierryGoin

Maybe I'm pointing out what is obvious, but sometimes clearly easily unnoticed past, did you happen to remove the old thermal paste before installing the new heatsink? If yes then you have too much? If the number is indicated as overheating in POST so this has nothing to do with the software at all. You need to recheck your fans, quantity of thermal paste and a video card for possible signs for lack of material.
