Windows 8.1 on HP Envy

I just upgraded to 8.1 Windows and added that all the recommended HP drivers and updates.  Now, there is no sound and an error message that the upgrade to the internal speakers is a problem.  What should I do?

Hi SharonTN,

I just discovered the same problem with my laptop HP Envy 17 TS a moment ago. I updated yesterday to 8.1 Windows and my audio doesn't work anymore, but I didn't notice until today. After reinstalling a driver Intel graphics to try to resolve the problem (just like others related to HDMI sound), which did not work, I came across a post on the HP forums who spoke to reinstall the audio driver using HP Recovery for Windows 7. While it is not exactly the same thing, the point is to use HP Recovery Manager.

My shortcut for you: look for the HP icon in your status bar at the bottom of the screen. Click it to open the center of the HP utility. Click the HP Recovery Manager. On the left side of the dialog box, see the topic "I need help", and then click on "reinstall drivers and Applications. Check the box 'IDT High Definition (HD) Audio Driver', then click on the 'Install' button below. Reboot when finished.

Good luck.
