Windows 8 and/or Surface Pro supports "connected standby mode?

Hello

I just read that ' a Windows 8.1 feature called connected standby mode, which allows computers to be put into mode 'sleep' and wake up instantly, is available today than in the 32-bit version "is the reason why" first Trail Bay tablets will use only the 32-bit version of Windows 8.1 ".»

But if this is true, don't would then not it means that the Surface Pro running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit is therefore unable to use "connected pending"?

I didn't notice the Surface Pro or the W700 Acer having problems coming out pending, then perhaps 'connected standby mode' is another type of sleep?  Can someone explain to me.  The "instant on" feature (the case of illusion, or for real) is what tablet users and so Windows 8.

Our company has been delaying the replacement of our laptops Windows XP until the release of 2.4 GHz, 64 bit, 8 GB RAM, SSD 256/512, 4 G/LTE Mobile Broadband Bay Trail devices come to market.  As a benchmark, we are looking for a device (/ Ultrabook/Tablet laptop computer) that would be able to effectively deliver business applications, for example Adobe Photoshop, MS Powerpoint.  2 to 4 GB of RAM will not be enough.

It will be Haswell devices without a fan, we have to buy these, even if they are much heavier and have reduced the battery life because it seems that it would not be until 2015 that see us peripheral Bay Trail capable business, see the articles below.

Mobile Atom SoC stay 32-bit at least until 2015
Somewhat surprising is the notion that Intel will keep its Silvermont Atom processor as a 32-bit platform until at least 2014. Customers who need the ability of 64-bit Atom will have to the Centerton Atom-S the microserver-based processor. It is not known if the successor of Silvermont, the 14 nm Airmont, will move to 64-bit

https://www.NetworkWorld.com/news/2013/091213-Windows-81-tablets-with-64-bit-273770.html

Buyers looking for a tablet with the new Bay Trail Atom from Intel chip and a 64-bit version of Windows 8.1 will have to wait until early next year.

Intel executives said Wednesday the first Trail Bay tablets will use only the 32-bit version of Windows 8.1, despite the support of 64-bit on the chip.

Tablets with OS 32 bit have a limit of 4 GB of DRAM memory, while 64-bit can actually support 512 GB. Most of the first tablets Trail Bay with Windows 8.1 will not more than 4 GB of memory, said Steve Smith, Vice President and Director of development for the tablet at Intel.

"We have the capacity, now it's a matter of when a system of consumption needs, it's probably somewhere in the future, I would say that a few generations away ', said Smith.

The reason is the limitation in the software of Microsoft, said Nathan Brookwood, principal analyst at Insight 64. A feature of Windows 8.1 and wake up instantly, called Eve connected, which allows computers to be put into mode 'sleep' is available now than in the 32-bit version.

Microsoft adds functionality to the 8.1 Windows 64-bit, and it will be available in early 2014.

Intel also does not feel 64-bit is required on consumer shelves, even if he knows what IT managers want 64-bit compatibility on all PCs and mobile devices in the enterprise.

Intel is developing a smart Tablet Trail separate Bay scheduled for 64 bit versions of Windows 8.1, and the processor will be available in the first quarter of next year, said Chris Walker, Director general of tablets at Intel Mobile Communications Group.

2 Surface Pro supports NOT connected to sleep, even if it uses the "Haswell" chip, which supports this mode.

There is a world of difference between standby connected and traditional modes of 'Sleep' and 'put to sleep '. Basically, connected to standby mode, the system really is, but requests are suspended for most. See here for a Microsoft document that gives an introduction connected mode standby.

I don't know why the 2 Surface Pro does not deliver sleep connected; I've seen several data, possible reasons for why this might be true:

  • The 64-bit Windows 8/8.1 version does not support it.
  • It is necessary that the material to be a fanless design (Surface Pro 2A fans).
  • It is necessary for the design to have TPM (Trusted Platform Module) version 2.0 (Surface Pro 2A version 1.2)

Whatever the reason (and it can be one or more of the above), it is disappointing that a product of the so-called phare does not support the feature.

  • Sharable desktop to any number (say up to 50) of users in Windows XP and Vista when all are connected to a wireless ad-hoc network? Or is there a limit on the number of users that can be shared? ___Thanks

Need to have this configuration in a classroom environment.

I don't know what you mean when you ask a desktop or sharing users.

A network computer can share files and printers with other computers, but there are limits that might make it unusable for you.  Windows XP and Vista allow 5 or 10 concurrent connections by other computers, depending on the version.

You need an operating system of Windows Server or Linux server to allow for more concurrent connections to shared files and printers.

I also fear that an ad - hoc network does not work well with 50 computers.

Aero - run the Aero troubleshooter. in "search programs and files" type 'help' (without the quotes) in the results, click "troubleshooting." Click "Appearance and personalization" and run the Troubleshooter "Aero".

If this does not help, make sure you have the correct graphics card and installed updates drivers. Search for the latest compatible drivers for your support site for manufacturers of PC for your brand and model of PC.

Network - open Device Manager and verify that the network connection device works and activated OK. (view as icons not categories) . Search network adapters and make sure that your card is listed and enabled and "working properly" - in the [general] tab of a right click and properties on the device.

Hi SydsMom, welcome to the Forums of HP. If a product contains the necessary built in the RT drivers, he just needs to be plugged and RT Windows should recognize and install it.

I did a search for "HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dw Laser printer" with the: Windows Compatibility Centerand it's Windows RT 8.1 compatible.

Microsoft provides these simple instructions: install a printer in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1

In addition, I'm not familiar with that printer, as it is a business model supported. I suggest posting in the trade forums, to get more input. You can do this HERE.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud window empty and does not ask for connection?

I currently have three computers. A 2010 iMac, a Macbook Pro 2012 and a new Macbook pro 2014. I disconnected and uninstalled creative cloud of the iMac. After buying the new MacBook Pro (2014), I used the mobile 2012 to copy my user profile on the laptop latest (including Adobe applications and cloud creative). However, when I try to open a project from the external hard drive, that I worked out, I get this message:

Adobe Application Manager is needed to solve this problem. However, it is missing or damaged. Please download and install a new copy of the Application Manager 'http://www.adobe.com/go/applicationmanager'.

When I go to this link, I get a prompt to download creative cloud (No Manager applications). Of course, I redownload creative cloud and gives me the steps to install but once the creative cloud installation progress bar ends and CC open, the window is empty and I wonder not identify or anything. I can't access all projects or connect to my computer CC on this new account be.

I deleted the file opm.db in the folder "OOBE" and I restarted the application. I uninstalled and reinstalled. I restarted my computer. I have tried everything for the last hours and made absolutely no progress.

I'm pretty stressed about it than the projects I work on are time sensitive. Any help would be greatly appreciated as chat customer support just left me on hold for almost an hour and I have not found a solution in the forums.

I can connect between laptops (dell inspiron w / win 7) to connect to the internet and browse the entire network. I can ping the IP address of the printer, (192.168.0.115), very well. Everything on the printer is network that worked very well, wireless, eprint, etc.. What I am doing wrong?

    Hello scriptripper,

Anti Virus programs are usually the first thing to look at when it comes down to not install software or things don't not communication between the computer and other network plug.

It's a piece of both sides. A risk on the one hand, it's great that it is made it is work and no risk of blocking, but fails when it comes down to it block do you your own work.

I have used AVG for years and it works very well and is free, after making the switch to MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials), about a year and a half before, have no feel the need to turn it back on.

  • Windows PE and 7 clients trying to connect to servers on port UDP 500

We have a lot of nie on our internal firewall from various machines in our area who are trying to connect to servers on port UDP 500 that are fill newspapers on the firewall. Servers usually aren't domain controllers, some are Terminal Server servers and one our imaging Server (LANDesk). Clients fail to connect to the VPN either. We do not use IPSEC anywhere in their own country.

It seems that UDP500 traffic is generated when accessing other services on the server such as RDP or file-sharing, not all clients are and stop the IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules service on the client seems to stop packets. So I think I know what it does but I don't know why. I have some screenshots of our managed service provider package and connected remotely to a system running Windows PE, looked with TCPView and valid traffic that packages stop when the IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules service is stopped. I do not think its malware.

I'm really excited to know what mechanism is causing these packages and knowledge if we accept it or not.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
