Windows 8 cannot connect to the external hard drive after you have added the drive case.

Original title: I have my hard drive from my previous PC attached to my new PC with windows 8. My old PC had XP. How to access the external hard drive?

I had problems with my XP operating system and could not transfer all the files to my new PC. I spoke with Dell who I believe created the problem with software support. I was told to get out the hard drive, buy a hard drive enclosure and get my files from there. I can't find the hard drive.

Hello

Thank you for the update.

Given that the problem occurs when the hard drive is connected to a different USB port or another computer, it is probably related to the connection of the hard disk.

Method 1: check if the problem occurs in another computer after removing the hard disk enclosure.

Method 2:

Step 1: Check if the hard drive is detected in Windows Explorer.

To do this, follow these steps:

a. connect the hard disk of the computer.

b. press the Windows key + E to open Windows Explorer.

c. check if the hard drive is present here.

Step 2: Check if the hard drive is detected in disk management.

To do this, follow these steps:

a. on the desktop, press the Windows key + X , and then select disk management.

b. check if the hard drive is listed there.

Contact the manufacturer of the hard drive and hard drive enclosure for assistance.

    Hi Andre,

I've struggled for some time with this one, here's how I finally solved it.  Apparently, USB drivers for mass storage devices was not compatible with my external hard drive.  I simply uninstalled the USB drivers for mass storage devices, then plugged my hard drive.  Automatically downloading appropriate drivers, and I was good to go.

  • Move the Windows Media Player files to another external hard drive

The hard disk that contains the files from my Windows Media Player 10 is dying.  I need to move the data to a new hard drive that I bought, but have not yet connected to my PC.  Old and new external hard drives are plug-and-play.

I have a lot of additional information to the library and want to be sure that I don't lose in the process.  However, I have not found anything in the documentation that tells me how to move my database from one hard disk to another.  Can anyone help?

If music files are in MP3 or WMA format, so most of the information is also stored in the files themselves, so that these information will be retained when the files are moved. There are a few fields that are not stored in the files, such as play account, custom fields and possibly star ratings. In order to preserve these fields during the movement of the library, you can use the backup of the metadata tool.

  • Windows Vista does not recognize my external hard drive, Eagle Consus AND-CS2PSU2-BK

I have an HP Presario laptop running Windows Vista and it does not recognize my external hard drive, or my flash drives.

I have an external hard drive Eagle Consus AND-CS2PSU2-BK.  It worked fine on my desktop, which works on XP.  I plug it to my computer laptop and nothing.

When I plugged it in the first place, he says that he needed to download the drivers.  I clicked 'ok' to automatically download drivers and a few seconds later, he said that it successfully completed the driver download/install.

I look under the drives in my computer and he's not here.

I went to start, right click computer, left you click on Manage and double-clique then under storage disk management.  All I see are C drive and recovery disc (D).  No other drives displayed.

I exitted who and set up the Control Panel, double click on Device Manager.  He said in the other topic peripheral USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge.  I don't know whether or not it is my external hard drive.  It indicates the Type of device: Other Devices and under device status it says: "the drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28).  This operation requires an interactive window station.  To reinstall the drivers for this device, click on reinstall the driver. »

He asks if I want to reinstall the drivers, so I clicked that.  He couldn't find them / install them.

Still, I don't know if USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge is still linked to my external hard drive.

Help, please.  The same thing happens when I try to plug a flash/USB.

    Try this:

In the right click 'USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge' Device Manager under the other devices section, click unsintall or press the delete key. Reset with the connected hard drive it must be reinstalled, but under the USB controllers. Make sure the device works on the other computer cable can also go to bad.b

  • Windows 7 and problems with my external hard drives

I have 2 Lacie (Big Disk Extreme) 1 TB external hard drive attached to my desktop system.

When I press the Start button and go to devices and printers, the "yellow icons exclamation point warning" are located next to each external hard drive icon.

Right click on each hard drive icon and going to solve problems, I learned that for each hard drive drivers are missing.

When I let Windows 7 try 'Apply this difficulty', it is failed every time.  It is said that it cannot search the drivers of these drives.

Go directly to the site Lacie, there are no drivers to download for these external hard drives (which are around 18 months of age).

What gives?  How can I get Windows 7 to stop warning me of these external hard drives?  I don't remember having to download all the drivers for these external hard drives when I was with Windows Vista.

    Help!

Try this...  I found a solution now using Partition Wizard Home Edition 4.2, - its free, then open it to find readers and by assigning a different letter on the external drive - Bingo... applying the changes the disk with the icon is displayed in the pane of the computer and I am able to open the drive!

  • Windows 7 does not detect multiple external hard drives

I recently bought a HP Pavilion laptop to 7 Home Premium. I have two 500 GB external hard drives. When I connect them individually to the system, they are recognized and I can copy files to and from these External Drives. But when I try to connect both at the same time, Windows 7 does not detect the drive I connect then. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the disks are powered by the USB bus and do not have their own external power supply the problem is that the laptop does not provide sufficient USB power to control both.

The USB specification, is that each port should provide 500mA at 5V. To keep their batteries, laptops usually provide 500mA to share between all available ports. If you need to use several USB devices with significant power, you must either externally powered USB hub or to provide the devices with their own power supply to cutting.
