Windows 8 drops wireless connection on laptop

After having upgraded my Alienware m9700 to Windows 8 (starting from Windows 7), I now have questions where the wireless stops simply work. I have to refresh the scan wireless and reconnect to the router to connect. I can assign it directly to Windows 8 as I have other computers-by-side that are not running Windows 8 and do not drop the connection. Also, I changed the network cards to see if mine was a problem. Two adapters abandon the connection. I ran the laptop at the time allowed and they fall at the same time. I ran each separately and they fall. Yet once, it never happened with Windows 7.

Any thoughts?

A short version of my answer, it's what you think.  Windows 8 has a bug wireless where he will fall from the wireless network connections.  I saw where Windows 8 shows you're connected to a wireless network and the system is not actually connected.  Basically, wireless in Windows 8 connections are not strong and unpredictable.

There are a lot of these type of discussions found here and elsewhere (in other forums) about Windows 8 wireless network connection problems.  Windows 8 tablets are also facing this problem.

  • WRT610N frequently drops wireless connections

    Hello

I have a WRT610N V1, which seems to have problems with wireless. He often falls all the wireless connection - not leases for IP addresses. One then we can not reconnect for a period of time, even after the reboot of the router and the modem. I just updated the firmware and do a full reset, but that no longer works. Any ideas?

Hello. Thanks for writing. I had not tried to change the channel until yesterday. I took a live chat with Linksys tech support people. Here's what they said to do:

For the 5 GHz band, set the width of the channel at 20 MHz only. Set the Standard channel to 36 - 5.180 GHz.
For the 2.4 GHz band, set the width of the channel at 20 MHz only. Set the Standard 11 - 2, 462 GHz string.

    A. tab Configuration, basic settings, lower the MTU tab:
    1. set the MTU on "manual".
2 entry 1400 as MTU size.
    3. save the settings.

    B. after that, power cycle (follow the steps below) all of your devices so that the new setting will take effect and the wireless signal are synchronized.
1 turn off your PC/Laptop, the router and the modem (just unplug the power cord to the back of the router and the modem) for a minute.
    2. after one minute, turn on the modem first, then the router and then your portable PC.
Note: Make sure that the lights on the modem are stable before you turn on the router.

This seems to have worked for me.

  • wireless connection on laptop

the little light wireless Blue says my wireless connection is ok, but when I try and connect to the internet that he told me that the wirelesss connection is not lit

    Hello

Try off - wait a minute or 2, then press IT. If it ends up being the current device is bad, then you
can power off and use a wireless module device or contact a real computer store or system manufacturer for
a repair. Check with manufacturer's support the system and the forums for known issues.

Also cut the power to your modem and router - wait 3 minutes and then reverse.
    Restart the computer.

Actually try updating your driver and disabling the network logon.

Control Panel - network - write down of the brand and the model of the Wifi - double click top - tab of the driver - write
version - click the driver update (cannot do something that MS is far behind the pilots of certification). Then
Right click on the Wifi device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - it will refresh the driver stack.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • MacBook Pro drops wireless connection...

    Hello!

My MacBook Pro is down constant wifi connection, sometimes hourly, sometimes every few seconds. It's very annoying and I have no idea what could be the problem... All I see is my MacBook has no assigned IP or auto-assignée IP. It is the only device in my house that has this problem, the rest works fine (several iOS and Android, Acer laptop, smart devices, storage attached to the network and so on...) I tried to use DHCP with a manual address static address as well (I put the Mac static IP in the routers settings using that). It helped for a few weeks, but it seems that the problem comes back. I tried to delete the wifi settings and restart the MacBook and the router... Reinstalling OS X also has not solved the problem. If you know or have any ideas what could help me I would really appreciate it.

    My equipment is:

    MacBook Pro 15 "retina (mid-2012),

    BTHub 4 (Type A).

    Software:

    V10.11.3 OS X El Capitan

If you need information about hardware or software just ask. Thank you all in advance

Wi - Fi connection problems can be a bit difficult to diagnose because there are many things that can affect performance, but there are some tools available:

System Preferences > network > Wi - Fi > (help me) > (Diagnostics)

This will check once for gross problems. But it tends to find any when your Wi - Fi connection works and does not at all when you connect Wi - Fi has abandoned.

    --------

Hold down the Option key while you click on the wireless icon in the menu bar. This will display a number of important parameters on the performance of a Wi - Fi connection. a little, it will look like this:

What values show you for Mode PHY and channel?

What CISOS or the signal strength?

    What emission rates?

very important and how many other networks do you see listed?

    --------

Also note that there is an entry for the diagnosis wireless at the end of this menu. This isn't the same simple diagnosis of mind as in system preferences > network Panel. It can be called from this menu for a more complete look at your Wi - Fi configuration. Will be to report obvious problems, but once completed, you can also choose to leave the window open to control your connection.

If you do this and go about your business, any unusual event will cause a warning to appear.

  • Windows 7 drops ethernet connection _every_time_ I restart my computer

    Hello

Every time I restart Windows 7, I completely lose my wired ethernet connection. It's not the mistake of bonjour service. It is not a statement simple ipconfig and renew the error. Literally, the system considers that there is no network card in the computer.

The only way it's fixed is to shut down the computer and stop it at the wall and wait for the power flowing. Turn on the power and the computer.

This didn't happen using vista or xp and I have made no changes to any settings.

Can someone please help with this question? If this isn't the case, please tell me who I should be emailing or where I should post this problem is solved.

    Thank you.

Same problem here too! I have the nForce also, Win7 x 64, maybe it's a driver problem. I'll look for some different drivers. I'll inform you guys if I find a solution.

FIX * well I have the Nvidia 590 SLi Mobo, went to nvidia Web site--> download--> product drivers: nForce--> etc. Fill out the fields and got the latest drivers, restarted and BAM! Right droit relie connected to restart, didn't have to toggle controller, looks that Win7 had just taken the wrong drivers when it has been updated. I hope this helps everyone!

  • Windows 8 drops network connection sharing and cannot re-establish the connection

First of all, let me say that this is the same exact symptoms I had with Server 2008 and network shares.  http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2194664

    Now on my current problem:

    I have a windows 8 pro with a SAS/SATA connected 3.5 to raid 5. I'll call this PC1

    I have a windows 8 pro running on Hyper-V hosted by PC1 VM. I'll call this VM1

PC1 is hosting the share PrimaryData F:\

PC1 is hosting the share SecondaryData P:\

The VHD VM and actions are all on the PC1 SAS/SATA Raid5

I have a custom power script that I ran at a time to avoid any form of sleep on all of the machines I use.

I use PPM to the PC1 on VM1 drive mappings

Then, I run a program on VM1 which converts the F:\ share data and once converted it moves other than P:\

This program runs until the data are all converts who should then take days, but he cannot because only a few hourly VM1 displays a red X on the actions of PC1.

When I try to reconnect the actions, they are not reconnected. I ping from PC1 VM1 but I can't connect with a command Net use. Once I got it to reconnect by running a "net use \\PC1\Datapath\PrimaryData" and accidentally forgot to add the mapped drive letter, but strangely it restored all my mapped drives disconnected. I was never able to reproduce even once. Normally, once Im locked, reset is the only answer.

I noticed this is a common problem with users of Windows 8, but his treatises as if it were the first time someone saw that and I saw all my sites of clients where I support Server2008 and spent many months, beating my head, try to understand this.

Please let know us which tests you want to run me and I'll do it and re post. I can duplicate the question at least once a day.

It is possible that I have solved my problem.

Well I don't know if this will work for other users as Im running Virtual Machines, but I edited my power settings for the hard drive itself and it goes 20 m forever if the hard drives never cease to go and so far, I don't lose connection again.

If I stay connected throughout, today I'm going to transfer and this can be closed.
  • Loss of wireless connection on Satellite Pro L10

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L10, with wireless capabilities built-in. I recently bought an ADSL Modem Belkin Wireless G Router. My desktop PC can connect to the internet via cable and cannot therefore have my laptop. However, when I connect to the internet via wireless connection my laptop sometimes everything stops. This isn't something to signal that I'm only about 2 feet from the router, and it is not that I can't connect to the internet, as I am on this at the moment. Is that in a few minutes, the connection will be lost and I can't seem to find what I can do about it.

The other problem is that when I click the icon at the bottom right of the screen, the "Wireless network connection" window opens. Here, it shows the wireless network I'm trying to connect and it shows with a strong signal, but it is almost always said not 'connected '. He said never 'connected', even when I am connected to the net and surf away!

Anyone has any ideas at all?

It sounds a little to the Wireless LAN card is unable to obtain a valid IP address.
These interruptions may occur for different reasons.
But especially the new version of the driver Wlan and/or Bios should help resolve these interruptions.

What card Wlan do you use?
If you are using the Intel Wlan card you can also visit the Intel Web site to download the most recent version of the WLan driver.
Please also compare the BIOS version available on the Tosh site with the version preinstalled on your laptop.

Wlan card properties contain some useful options that could improve the quality of the connection. Energy saving options should also be required to check other functions in the tab advanced and disabled.

  • HP Pavilion G6: Wireless connection slow

    Hello

Given that I update to windows 10 my wireless connection is slower.

Test on speedtest.net in my house, dowload speed is at best 1, 5mbps and download 2.5 Mbps (which is strange uploading faster than downloading) and at the same time my other laptop Acer becomes 7, 5mbps download and the same 2.5 Mbit/s in upload. In my house, I have a service of the internet 3G / 4G.

    Hi @miguelsoare,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems, with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion Notebook g6 and issues with slow wireless speeds. Here is a link for troubleshooting wireless connection, if you need.

If the problem persists, I would change the channel on the router. Routers are able to communicate to your laptop on several different channels. Sometimes, this fixes the speeds.

Some say that it helps to fix this Microsoft Fix it.

Here is a link to help as well.

Please let me know how it goes.

I have a new (5 months) Acer Aspire 5732Z which works in Windows 7. Wireless connection shows that it is connected (full bars) but I have no internet access (there is a signal of yellow exclamation over bars error). Thank you. I decided to call my Internet provider again and this rep was able to solve the problem without delay. From what I learned, if you get a representative who was not helpful, call again...

  • How to make the computer to look for SBRIO on a LAN connection when wireless connections LAN and are active

    Hello

I plugged my laptop to a SBRIO using a cable, I also did the same mask subnet the SBRIO and my wireless connection for laptop is also active. I run an application to transfer files from the network to the SBRIO. I was able to download the files from the network using the wireless, but when I try to transfer the files from the laptop to the SBRIO the application attempts to use the wireless instead of the connection to the local network. Is there anyway that I can apply to use the LAN connection instead of wireless?

    Thank you

    Mouda.

You must manually configure the settings for the SBRIO and map NETWORK cable on the PC. They must be presented on the same subnet. Using the crossover cable, you can configure your PC to use an address like 192.168.0.10 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Configure the SBRIO to use an address as 192.168.0.11 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The PC uses the network connection by default for all addresses that do not match the specific subnet on teaching secondary (cable in your case) NIC
