Windows 8 not to recognise or install USB devices

Windows 8 will not recognize any device I plug.  Some devices operate independently of not having a driver installed as my Passport external hard drive and printer Dell.  I've tried three different USB, Sony, Cruzer Mini and Cruzer Ultra jump readers, all are not recognized, and I can't manually install drivers (if they exist for Windows 8) on these, or any other devices.  I also have a HTC 8 x Windows phone which she also does not recognize.

I tried many solutions, including:

  • Uninstalling in Device Manager and reinstall
  • With the help of 8 all of my USB ports, including 3.0
  • A clean boot and install
  • Manual installation of the driver - device manager does not recognize the driver on my hard drive
  • Re-the drive mapping (to jump readers) - they do not appear on Drive Manager to remap
  • Reset the BIOS

I'm at my wits end here.  I don't know how Windows 8 will not recognize anything, or that it doesn't seem to be a reasonable solution!  Help, please!

Hi Matt,

I apologize for the delay in responding to your request.

In order to detect any what equipment connected to a port on a computer, Windows is based on the drivers or firmware that controls those ports. After reading your description, I think that 'all' the USB ports on your computer are unable to read the devices that you have mentioned and you already reinstalled all your drivers. Please let me know if it is otherwise.

At this point, the problem seems to be caused by a lack or an incompatible driver. You must first with the computer or motherboard manufacturer to verify if a Windows 8 compatible chipset driver is available for your computer/motherboard model. If no Windows 8 compatible chipset driver is available, try to install the drivers for Windows 7 in compatibility mode in Windows 8.

This is how you run a setup in Compatibility Mode:

1. download the installation file, right-click on the file and click on Properties.

2. click on the compatibility tab.

3. Select the compatibility mode that you want to apply, and then click OK.

4. then run the installation using the downloaded installation file.

Let me know the status of the issue once you have installed the appropriate Chipset drivers. If you are not able to determine which driver you should install, let us know your computer or the name of the manufacturer and motherboard model number.

Thanks and regards-

  • Windows will not activate a re - install using the key printed on the netbook, I have

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook on which I had to reinstall the operating system because of problems I had. I tried everything to reinstall the OS W7 Starter edition try the recovery disk method or check with the manufacturer (out of Warranty warranty so no support) and without success. Now, when I tried to activate the version of Windows 7 Starter Edition that I had installed on a drive that I bought with all versions of W7 less any key, Windows does not recognize the key, I entered even if it is printed on the bottom of the laptop on the MS license that I HAVE. I have even a paid upgrade to Home Premium I tried to apply in order to activate the operating system, but it says I need to activate W7 Starter first before the upgrade.

Need some advice what to do.

Windows 7 Starter Edition is actually installed?

Click Start, right click on computer

    Click on properties

Go to the Windows edition section

    Does say Windows 7 Starter?

If this is the case, try to use phone activation:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

I would like to know some information about the problem so that we can help you better.

Have you made any changes to your computer hardware or software?

It seems that the power settings are not correct.

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

    a. Click Start, right-click computer and then click on 'manage '.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.

    c. click on Device Manager, expand USB, right click on the device bus controllers and then click

    Properties.

    d. click the "Power management" tab and clear the checkbox "Allow this device to wake the computer" and then click ok.

If this does not help, then use method 2.

  • Service Pack 2 could not install, windows can not access the service install and slow computer

Please help, I'm using Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I'm not very technical, and I think that my problems began some time ago when Vista Service Pack 2 Installation causing boot failure has failed and that I could not connect. I tried a fix by using the Startup Repair and was able to connect again, but now all my Vista updates since then do not install and now my computer is running extremely slow, constantly trolling.  I also have problems "windows service install could not have access. I have tried to reinstall Windows Installer 4.5 but says "update does not apply to my system. I also tried to unregister and re-register Windows install that does not work. When I try to 'upgrade' my installation disc vista, the option is not available. I think my computer is confused if it running SP1 or SP2. Also I can not install programs because of the installer, the service to publish a work around if needed. Thank you

What application or antivirus security suite is installed and your current subscription?  What anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications?  What third-party firewall (if applicable)?  Who were these applications that run in the background when you tried to install SP2?

A (another) Norton or McAfee application has already been installed on the computer (for example, a free trial version which is preinstalled when you bought it)?

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for Windows Vista, but only for Service Pack 2 (SP2). This support, initially planned to end on November 26, 2009, has been extended until February 26, 2010. Availability of support chat or messaging differs depending on your location. • Touch screen does not work and the message "USB device not recognized".

I have a Samsung Ativ book 9 Lite. Everything works fine until that recently when my touch screen stopped working (is there a function button that could possibly have it?) and I constantly get a notification from Windows Explorer that says "Device not found USB." When I go to the Device Manager page it constantly keeps refreshing, so you can't click on almost any. There is an element that shows as unknown, but if I try to uninstall or disable, it happens immediately. I just downloaded the latest driver for the printer I only use and still no luck.

    Any help?

    Hey Jake,

I suggest to download the latest driver available for the touch screen on the manufacturer's Web site and install it.

    Install the latest drivers

Also try to update the drivers for the chipset of your PC and check if it helps.

  • Why am I suddenly "USB not recognized, one of the devices USB has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize"

Hi all. If anyone out there in Cyber Land can solve this problem for me so I've personally you will issue an eight-pack of ice-cold beer (or a bottle of wine for the ladies lol)...

I'll try not to waffle too guys, so here's...

Right my PC running Windows XP. I also have itunes installed on my PC (I have an iphone 4). Upward until yesterday my iphone and itunes were working well, (once I plugged my iphone in the itunes USB port recognised that my iphone was plugged and synchronization was fine etc.).

But now when I plug my iphone to PC to sync with itunes, I get a pop up box on the lower right part of the screen that reads... "USB not recognized one of the USB devices has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize."

After visiting about 5 different sites now "Ways to solve this problem", believe it or not, I still have the problem bloody! :(

A site proposed shutdown PC and unplug it from the power supply, then plug it back start-up and back... this as did not work!
The other they say that I should go to Device Manager, uninstall all the USBs then restart... it did not work either.
    Tried a system restore
    Tried to reinstall itunes

When I check the names USB in Device Manager, there is one who reads unknown device. I am literally pulling what's left of my hair now. I tried to solve this problem for almost 2 days now and still no joy. That's why no matter what input you guys would be very appreciated. I'm no PC Wizard, so please, don't think you're patronizing me if you break down things step by step for me.

Thank you comrades, cordially, Freddy frustrated. :)

Another said I should go to Device Manager, uninstall all the USBs and restart.

Usually, this works... but can be very dangerous, unless you have a PS/2 keyboard.

I also assume that you have tried all other USB ports on the computer. tried a verified USB device (for example, a flash drive) in the USB usually when you plug in your iPhone. and I tried your iPhone in another computer (I know it's rare for an error message Windows really means what he says, but sometimes the material lacks).

Is the charge of the iPhone when it is connected to the USB port (I don't think)?  This happened to me recently, but a reboot fixed it.  I guess that that happened to you.

I guess that you don't see the error messages in Device Manager or you must declare them.

You can uninstall all USB devices that do not exist as follows:

    • Open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK)
    • Enter the following command and press enter

    Set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices = 1

    • Start the Device Manager by typing the following in the same command prompt window

    devmgmt.msc

    • In Device Manager, click the view menu and select "Show hidden devices".
    • You should see a category just after "Non-Plug and Play drivers" named "other devices."  Chances are that there will be a big exclamation yellow mark beside it.  When you expand the "other devices" you should see several non identified "USB devices."  Uninstall all this.
    • Reboot (with the iPhone NOT connected).
  • When I plug my USB STICK in my computer, I get a message that Windows does not recognize it and it may have malfunctioned.

I was transferring files from one computer to another and unfortunately made the mistake to put only on the flash drive.  Is there a way to fix my flash drive and save my files?  When I go into the properties of the "unknown device" it says that there is no driver installed; However, when I search the driver updates, I get a message saying that I have the most up-to-date software.   I tried USB to multiple computers and it is not recognized on any of them.  Please help :/

    Hello

1 are there any changes or updates made on the computer?

    2. What is the full and exact error message?

    3. the other USB devices detected?

    Method 1:

I suggest that you try to connect to the USB flash drive on another USB port and check if the problem persists.

Also, try to connect the USB on another computer and check if the flash player works.

    Method 2:

Check the link and try to run the troubleshooter and check if the problem persists.
