Windows Defender is abandoned and forbids me to control startup programs

I am running Vista on a 32-bit computer. I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed and it works fine. I tried to change my startup from the Control Panel programs today. As soon as I click on this link, a message appears that says that Defender is stopped.

If I click on the link to turn it on, after a few seconds it comes back with an error message. I can't go beyond that point. I don't advocate in my list of programs to uninstall. It is not yet on all programs. I see it in the Program Files folder.

How can I get rid of the Defender, so I can edit my startup programs? It is my understanding that I didn't need a defender with Essentials installed.

TIA

> But the fact remains, I can't in normal user friendly way. How should I do?

This statement is a misconception...

You used to get to the via Windows Defender start-up programs. That's all.

The "msconfig" is a method that you is not worn. This does not mean that it is not "user friendly". You didn't know its existence. That's all.

For an example, everyone will tell you how to get to Windows Defender of
Start < control="" panel=""> etc. etc. TEC.

What happens if I tell you, go to Windows Defender by...
Start > Search box, type windows defender > press the Enter key > and this is windows Defender.

What happens if I tell you, to create a desktop shortcut of Windows Defender, so next time just click the shortcut.

So which way is easy to use? For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

    Hello

Windows Defender does not have a Firewall.

If Norton edition is a Suite of Internet security, not just an AV, it has its own firewall, and you have disabled Vista firewall to prevent conflicts.

And this has been explained to you by a previous contributor here, Norton disables Windows Defender, which he is supposed to do.

    There is nothing to worry.

I never noticed before Windows Defender and do not download it.  So I wonder if my copy is legitimate or harmful.  And I use McAfee antivirus.  If it is legitimate, do I use it with McAfee?

I noticed in the Panel of the icon next to the time in the lower right corner, but it has now disappeared.  It was a symbol of an exclamation mark, then he had a rotating blue circle saying it was scanning after that I started the scan McAfee because I was not familiar with Windows Defender.  But he finished what he was doing and it has now disappeared.  I just wanted to know if it was true or harmful, and if there was all I had to do about it.

    Thank you!

If you use Vista, Windows Defender is part of the system. It comes with it. It can not be uninstalled either.
    operating
McAfee has his own defender and run 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflicts. McAfee is supposed to close Windows Defender.

Windows Defender features are included in MSE, defender of loading would be redundant.

    Windows Defender antispyware =

    MSE is antivirus + antispyware.

Then think about MSE as Windows Defender with more added (which is).

I use Windows Security Essentials OK, but Windows Defender is DISABLED and cannot be turned on. What should do?

Windows Defender is part of the Vista operating system. It cannot be uninstalled, nor can you install another fresh copy in the system. This Windows Defender lives and dies with the operating system.

It is called Microsoft Security Essentials, not Windows Security Essentials.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentilas) is supposed to close Windows Defender.
This is because MSE has his own Defender. Run 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflicts.

Therefore, it is normal to find widows Defender NOT enabled if you installed MSE.

You don't have to do a thing. So be.

If you want Windows Defender turned on because you want to access with the startup programs, here's another way without using Windows Defender...
