  • Windows Defender problem - does not open

    Dear Experts,

Recently, I bought my computer with Windows Vista installed. It worked perfectly, but two days when I installed Microsoft Home Premium, McAfee licenced and registered all products including Windows online, I noticed that Windows Defender could not open by asking the following:

«Failed to initialize: 0x800106ba.» A problem caused this program service stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search help and Support to find out how to start a service manually. »

Please note that neither restarts nor search help has helped me solve this problem, whenever I turn on the laptop the session begins with the above given the message.

Make sure that you are logged on as administrator.  If this is not the case, and try again.  That still does not work, start mode safe mode with networking (by clicking repeatedly on the F8 key during the boot process until the menu appears) and then try to do it from there.

If none of these options work, please repost your question in the Windows Vista Security Forum to: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/threads where the specialists of Vista Security (such as the impossibility of updating Defender) will be more than happy to help you with your problem.

I can only answer to your "Windows Defender" problem...

If you have the following AV, antivirus, programs installed, close your Windows Defender. Purpose of these AVs have their own advocates. 2 defenders on the same machine will create conflicts.
Bottom line: it's ok. It's normal.
List of AVs which will stop Windows Defender:
    Norton
    McAfee
    AVG
    Microsoft Security Essentials

If you don't have AV programs above, here's how to restart Windows Defender:

Start button > in the search box, typeServices > press the Enter key > scroll to find Windows Defender, click on it >...
topic status , it must be said... Has begun
under Startup Type, it must be said... Automatic
If it does not say that, right click on Windows Defender > click Properties >
in Startup Type, click on the pointer to the right and select automatic
to the service status, click Start
    Click OK when finished.

    Windows defender problem

If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.

Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and it automatically disables the version of Vista in Windows Defender.

    If it's not:

    Hi 1pinktink,

    Welcome to Microsoft answers forums!

    a. What is the exact error message that you receive?

    b. don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

    c. what anti-virus program you installed on the computer?

This problem may occur if there is a conflict between windows defender and the security software installed on the computer.

I suggest you try the following steps:

Step 1: Disable security software, follow the steps mentioned below

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Activate security software back once the test is completed.

Step 2: The System File Checker (SFC) utility allows administrators to perform an analysis of all protected resources to make sure they are the correct version. Whether SFC should find all incorrect versions in one of these protected resources, SFC will be replaced by the correct versions.

You can still run a SFC scan on the windows vista computer. To run a scan suite SFC as follows:

    a. Click Start, in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

    b. at the command prompt type sfc/scannow , and then press ENTER.

Step 3: Install the latest updates for windows defender

To check updates in Windows Defender, follow these steps:

    1. start Windows Defender if it is not already open. To do this, click Start, click programs, and then click Windows Defender.

2 search for new definitions. To do this, click search for updates now

  • 2nd problem I have is Windows Vista, Windows Defender & MCAFEE.

My biggiest at this stage it is above mentioned. The problem I have is whenever windows is a updated and downloads of updates of their software and restart the computer, I lose access to MCAFEE. I can't access it using the icon on the desktop or the start menu. I get an error msg that bed the point mcshell.exe that this shortcut refers has been changed or moved, that this shortcut no longer works correctly. He then asks if I want to delete this shortcut, or not? I contacted MCAFEE to find someone at the tip to help solve the problem. I had a rep help me solve this problem, so I thought. It's a pain, because I have to redownload MCAFEE whenever this happens. MCAFEE has advised me to switch to their premium to $89.99 package so someone on their end can remotely check if the computer I'm using has virus. I said no. I can't afford it. Windows Defender will also result in a conflict with MCAFEE. I tried to disable Defender, but I guess I did not right. Help, please

Here's what I use and recommend:

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw at them.
Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven very reliable and compatible.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except away from Standard, Web and network is working.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)

Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).
    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free (Avast or MSE but not both)
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes
a scan only, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something to come back here or use Google to see how to remove.

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with
Avast and Prevx running except a low occasional (not much), updated cookie and then run it as
a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • Windows Defender can co-exist with MS Security Essentials? With the Defender had MsMpEng resourse problem.

My system resources were used to the top by MsMPEng.exe when investigating, looked that Windows Defender was the problem.  Installed MS Security Essentials seems to have solved the problem.

If you use Microsoft Security Essentials, there is no need to use Windows Defender. You can disable that and just let Microsoft Security Essentials run things. Microsoft® Security MVP, 2004-2009

  • Problem: Windows Security Center gives me a "alert" that my anti-virus is turned off, but I am running Windows defender and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Windows Security Center gives me a "alert" that my anti-virus is disabled.  I have Win XP Professtional and'm running Windows defender and Microsoft Security Essentials times which I recently uninstalled, restarted the computer and reinstalled more updated.  I read related security problems, but I have not found a match.  I have a screenshot of the Win Security Center Alert, but unable to attach.  It is said: ' Windows found multiple antivirus programs on this computer, but they all report that they could be updated or disabled. " Click on the recommendations for suggested actions... [what I did without success, i.e. update.  «[I uninstalled, stop, rebooted and reinstalled and updated]»

When I shoot to the top of MSE it says, "protection is enabled, and updated definitions.

Windows Defender said: "Nothing detected" and "computer running normally."

Before the uninstall and update, I ran System Mechanic from Iolo, who has done wonders for speed.

    Norman

When it comes to antivirus software, you want one and only one installed and running on your computer.  Two or more may come into conflict with eachother and degrade performance.  I advise you to uninstall Windows defender and use soley mse.

also I strongly suggest that you avoid using "PC optimization" tools.  They can help a little, but they often do more harm than good.

  • Problem with Windows defender.

I installed Windows Defender 10 days ago. I'm going to have a problem that the windows defender automatically turns off service a few times. The last time it happened when I ran a quick scan and in the middle of the analysis, in the system tray, it seems with a mark I opened it and I showed that the Windows Defender Service is disabled. Then I turned it on. But the problem is why what is happening?

    * I also using MSE .

You must uninstall Windows Defender, it's redundant, MSE includes Windows Defender antispyware protection. You must have a program in real time of protction installed on your computer.

    Hi all

I am a newbie with doozy a bit of a problem:

Services of Windows Defender on my local computer no longer works.  The message I get is:

«Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x800106ba.» A problem caused this program service stop.  To start the service, restart your computer or search help and Support to find out how to start a service manually. »

I restarted my computer nothing works.

I followed the advice from another thread in the following way: go to the control panel > click on Administrative Tools > Services > Windows Defender properties > change initially > press on apply.  It seemed that he would work until the following message appeared:

"The Windows Defender service on Local computer started and then stopped.  Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. »

Any help, help, clarity on this issue...?

    Thank you very much! :]

This problem can occur because another security application is used or the Windows Defender service has stopped, or components of Windows Defender are corrupt.

You install any new programs recently? Windows Defender is not designed to protect against the extent of malware. If programs like Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG 9 and Windows Defender both run, your system may experience degradation in performance and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time. I recommend that you keep the Defender off if another application of security protection is running. These security software stop windows Defender work properly in order to prevent conflicts.

If no similar security application is installed, I suggest that we have follow these steps to resolve the problem:

Step 1: Check the Windows Defender service
    =================================
    1. click on start, in the search box, type: "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. double-click on the service "Windows Defender".
    3. click on the 'general' tab. Make sure the "Startup Type" is "automatic". Click on apply. Then please click on "Start" under "Status of Service" to start the service.

If the problem is not resolved, please refer to step 2:

Step 2: Save the associated DLL files
    ========================
    1. click on start, type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the box start the search. Right click on CMD listed above and click 'run as administrator '.

    2. in the command prompt, type the following and press ENTER to each order:

    regsvr32 atl.dll

    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 softpub.dll
    regsvr32 mssip32.dll

    3. close the command prompt, and then run Windows Defender.
