Windows Defender Software Explorer

I had performance problems and has been advised by the community to use Windows Defender to determine what was running on my computer.  In the Windows Defender Software Explorer, I currently have five Windows Internet Explorer running.  All versions have identical information and have been installed on the same date.  The only thing that differs is the process ID.  Can someone explain to me why I would need five of the same version of this software?  If I do not need, it is important that you remove?

I was able to use the Windows Defender Software Explorer to DISABLE a startup program.  The program was DELL QUICKSET.  Now I would like to REACTIVATE the same program, but when I select, all three buttons, DISABLE, ENABLE, and REMOVE stay gray.

I have the same program for the 4 other programs that I have disabled grayed out, I select and buttons are still grayed out, although earlier, I was able to use the same method to disable gthem.

You cannot use Autoruns to disable programs, just control those who start or do not start at startup (if they were added by the program, or Vista).  I don't know why Software Explorer does not activate the ptorgrams - should be because this is the program that the disabled.  Maybe it's an update or some type of permissions (or problem of corruption in the program that cannot be uninstalled or re-installed on Vista without a Vista in its entirety.

We will try this.  Go to C:\Program Data\ Microsoft\Windows Defender\Software off Explorers\ items in the startup folder.  Check the list for the item you want to activate (it should be here as disabled).  Try to delete or otherwise remove this item from the folder.  If necessary, try to right click on the element, and then click Run as administrator (if this option is available).  If not, right-click on the item and click Properties, then security and give you all the rights and ownership (you will have to do it for the folder itself, or perhaps even its parent folder as well or as high as necessary to obtain permissions and ownership).

If this does not work, try to use one of the following free products to remove the file...  Unlocker to:http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

If this does not work, try to uninstall the program and reinstall again (if you have the software or you can get it from the manufacturer's web site)., Dell is good enough to make available software downloads.

  • Windows Defender - Application not found (in Windows 7 professional OS)

    Hello

I have a computer running on Windows 7 Professional on my place of work. However, Windows Defender does not seem to work properly because it cannot be opened when searched for in the START Menu and the Windows Defender icon is not correct (please refer to the screenshot below):

Probably, I suppose that someone had deleted the Windows Defender software before I used the computer.

I would like an active Windows Defender to protect your computer. If all goes well, it can be fixed or re-install the software on the computer.

Please, can someone help me with the correct solution?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jenn

By your screenshot, it seems you have installed MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials).  The first icon beside the ORB start.  If it is enabled, the Defender must be disabled.

MSE is supposed to disable Defender when it is installed.  They should not be run at the same time.

There are a few explanations here:

  • Windows Defender error 126: the specified module could not be found

How to fix Windows Defender on Windows 7?

For some time now, Windows Defender no longer works. I can't install new updates of definition and the service cannot be started. If I try to manually start the Windows Defender service, there is an error message:

"Error 126: the specified module could not be found.

However, I can launch the GUI of C:\Program Files\Windows Defender Defender. However, I tried to download the Windows Defender from Microsoft, but the installer launches because it is said that Defender is already part of Windows 7 x 64.

I'm really looking for a way to get Windows Defender to rework.

First of all, it's what I already know and what I don't want:

    • I don't want to disable Windows defender, I want to make it work again
    • I have no antivirus uninstalled or disabled Windows Defender software, the module really seems to be corrupted (I am software engineer)
    • I don't want to reinstall Windows or use the backup, because I don't know how far I have to go back
    • Windows Defender can be removed from the menu of functions and software, because it is part of the operating system
    • I do not have MSE installed, tried to install it, haven't changed a thing

Any solution to solve this is appreciated. Advanced solutions (Registry hacks, enveloping, manual installs, work...) Welcome!

    Hello

    ·         You have Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer?

If you have windows installed on your computer security essentials, then you will not be able to install Windows defender. Windows Security Essentials has antispyware component installed.

You get the error because you have installed MS Security Essentials, which has its own function to antimalware. You don't need or want to install Windows Defender, too. Leave MS Security Essentials installed and do not turn it off.

I'm a computer technician who makes a TON of virus remove money from Windows computers.  Two-thirds of my tasks of repair involving the elimination of viruses from Windows and trying to fix the Internet Explorer, the worst browser known to humanity.

I have a question about Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool.  These are two programs entirely worthless, evidenced by the fact that computers with them installed still get infected of all viruses, Trojan and rootkit out there.  Clearly, if these two programs of malware Microsoft has done anything to protect your computer, it would have been without having to release still a THIRD tool antivirus, "security essentials" for Microsoft.   I'm not complaining — the way Microsoft Windows absorbs malware like a sponge, put a lot of money in my bank account. Please keep doing what you're doing... however...

My question is, given that Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool doing nothing to protect against malware, why Windows Update keep harassing upgrade us on a regular basis?

Windows defender is not an antivirus program, it is designed to protect against spyware.

What is the difference between the difference between software malware removal tool and Windows Defender?

Windows Defender is a program that you install on your computer.  It runs automatically and continuously, prevention of new infections of spyware and the removal of the 'old'.

Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool is not installed and does not work automatically.  You can run it manually to remove specific malicious software it is seeking.

You want to remove Norton and old and even uninstalled antivirus can leave remnants then download and run
the Norton Removal Tool. Also, I would get Avast and Prevx and you should be in good shape.

Download the 3 to get back to after removing the McAfee antivirus.

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AS ADMIN - REBOOT after each.

(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)

Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with

  • Windows Defender stop working after the malicious software removal tool

I ran windows software and after this removal tool, my windows Defender stopped working says its turned off, but when I try to turn it on nothing happens

This problem can occur because another security application is used or the Windows Defender service has stopped, or components of Windows Defender are corrupt.

You install any new programs recently? Windows Defender is not designed to protect against the extent of malware. If programs like Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender both run, your system may experience degradation in performance and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time. I recommend that you keep the Defender off if another application of security protection is running.

If no similar security application is installed, I suggest that we have follow these steps to resolve the problem:

Step 1: Check the Windows Defender service
    =================================
    1. click on start, in the search box, type: "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. double-click on the service "Windows Defender".
    3. click on the 'general' tab. Make sure the "Startup Type" is "automatic". Then please click on "Start" under "Status of Service" to start the service.

If the problem is not resolved, please refer to step 2:

Step 2: Save the associated DLL files
    ========================
    1. click on start, type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the box start the search. Right click on CMD listed above and click 'run as administrator '.

    2. in the command prompt, type the following and press ENTER to each order:

    regsvr32 atl.dll

    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 softpub.dll

    3. close the command prompt, and then run Windows Defender.
