I installed the microsoft Security Center and now Defender will not work.
If that's okay. How can I now change my Start menu?
Use the msconfig method...
Start > in the search box, type msconfig > press the Enter key > uac prompt > Startup tab > here's startup programs >
To activate... check the box opposite.
To disable, uncheck the box in front. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

Original title: Windows Defender
I have Windows Vista and my Windows Defender will activate/doesn't not work. When I try to turn it on, it responds by saying: 'it is not responding' and stops automatically. I tried to re - install & who did not work. Any ideas.
Hi lskdjfoie,What have you tried to reinstall? Windows Defender or other programs?I suggest the following steps and check.Step 1:Usually if you have a third-party security software installed, Windows Defender would not work. I would temporarily disable all security software and check if the problem persists.
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.Step 2:If this does not help, I would say you scan SFC on your computer and check if Windows Defender works fine.Step 3:If none of the steps helps create a new user account and check if the problem persists.Let us knowAziz Nadeem - Microsoft Support[If this post was helpful, please click the button "Vote as helpful" (green triangle). Windows Defender does not work: encounteredan error: 0x800705b4
I can't activated the windows Defender. I get this message:
Windows Defender does not work: encounteredan error: 0x800705b4. This operation returned because the time limit has expired.
What do you use for your antivirus protection? Windows Defender is not necessary if you use AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, Norton or McAfee. These AV programs have their own antispyware component builtin and allows you to disable Windows Defender by design.

Exactly what virus or other malware, have you been hit with? How do you have
I know? They were removed? How?What anti-virus and anti-spyware programs you have installed? Are
they kept up to date?Be aware that Microsoft Security Essentials and safety
software automatically turn off Windows Defender for you, because
they contain a lot of the same functionality.Ken Blake

W7 Upgrade Advisor said it would work with the exception of Windows Aero. When the games to try to come with W7 get window 'game running in software rendering... '. Hardware acceleration disabled or not supported by the video card driver"games will not work. A check says last drivers are installed. Tried to reinstall WXP in separeat partition to see if would work like that but will not because most recent W7.
I suggest that you use XP personally gave a computer which is so old.
If you have a computer with XP (3 + years) and have not changed at least two of these things (CPU, RAM, video card), you should probably stick with XP. Not worth the headache of praying that things work with a material more old which probably is no longer supported on the new OS.
Usually, people that the computer was shipped with Vista 1, 2 or less it several years ago can be upgraded to 7 without too much trouble if it was a mid-range machine. In addition, it seems that Windows is not recognizing your graphics card. It looks like (http://www99.shopping.com/xPO-Hewlett-Packard-SR1020NX-CEL2-8-512-80-COM-XPH) you have an Intel Extreme graphics card. However, nothing about it is extreme. Since it is an extreme Intel card I guess Windows Update should find the drivers for you, but it is not then maybe the video card is just too outdated for 7? I'm not sure.
Moreover, I wouldn't worry much about the lack of updates for XP right now. If ever you encounter more money then get the new computer with 7 on it, but at this time I suggest you stay on XP if your hardware and software actually works and that is more important than a few features of 7.

My windows Defender does not work well
In the window of reports on problems and solutions, it says that my windows Defender has stopped working all of the solutions. Thanx
In the window of reports on problems and solutions, it says that my windows Defender has stopped working all of the solutions. Thanx
I don't know what you mean by "does not * well *," but if you mean that it doesn't at all, please answer the following question: What antivirus do you use?
Many anti-virus programs (Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Norton, McAfee and others) turn Windows Defender. It's good, not bad; they turn it off becauseDefender reproduced what they do. Having both do the same thing hurts your performance and increases the risk of problems that are contrary to each other.

Windows Defender does not work with Microsoft Security Essentials
I just want to confirm I'm sure I see Windows Defender listed on the site alongside the Microsoft Security Essentials in a list of items to choose from - if we choose security while we can not run the Defender is that correct? Vista runs on this toshiba that has been in place. Windows Defender is not running but essentials runs with full daily verified updates scans and other readers of both records - the concern, it is that be enough security we should do other things regarding the last blackened on computers, we have seen happening with friends and the fake software updates We have seen with the neighbors not accepting real software, they thought were updated - but in the end a fake. They were running microsoft security databases, but didn't yet these things happen - no pleasure with the laptop still being down in a different place/city. Any info would be nice to hear, clear terms, just trying to help people close to home and at a distance from time to time thanks Jen
I'll simplify the answer...
1 Microsoft Security Essentials has his own Defender. Running 2 defenders only create conflicts. MSE will stop Windows Defender.
2. no security program is sufficient for protection. Be careful, to surfing and what to download.
3. you can install "we demand" programs such as Spybot Search Destry and Malwarebytes. They do not run until you 'open '.
I have Avast Home Edition for "real-time" protection, and I have Spybot Search and Destroy more Malwarebytes. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

Windows Defender will not be updated
I am experiencing strange shift of internet and I think it's because Windows Defender won't be able to update. I am running Vista x 64 final. I recently started to receive a new error every time I start my computer, something to the effect of Windows Defender service is unable to start. If I try to start it manually, I got the error: 0 x 80070003: the system cannot find the path specified.
Normally I wouldn't complain about windows Defender does not because I have my own solutions, but I believe that it is still problematic within my system. Every half hour or so, my firewall warns me to say that something in a temporary folder called mpistub.exe or something is trying to access the internet. I found this exe is a windows update, so I allow it through. Now, I believe that because the service cannot start, the update is impossible to apply and continues to go to the internet to try to get a shift to internet update, causing news for my pc everything.
Someone knows something like that? I would like to reinstall windows Defender so that it can update itself and let my only internet. And I don't mean simply turning on or off; I can't do this if the service does not start. Oh and I tried to restore to an earlier date, it is not far enough.

It gives me an error code and says that my windows defender is stopped. Is it because I have installed Microsoft Security Essentials to help eliminate the virus. What should I do? I tried unistalling it and reinstall but it won't let me not just uninstall first. In addition, the virus has a sound, it does at the start and he is always on my computer when I start my computer. This means that the files are still on my computer?
