Hello
You cannot uninstall or reinstall
It is part of vista
read this information on the Defender:
· If you use microsoft security essentials avg avira mcafee norton etc they disable the vista version of windows defender by default
the basics of Microsoft security has its own version of windows defender
and other anti-virus programs use their own particular type of application to scan for spyware and malware
It of nothing to worry and is the default action, which is designed for them to do
If the above does not apply to your machine to read the information on the below link on how to disable the windows defender service in vista or make an autostart to enable
and here is the method to remove it from startup in vista
http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/remove-Windows-Defender-from-Vista-system-startup/
and this is how you would normally activate or disable windows defender in vista from within defenders of own and options tools
http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/disable-Windows-Defender-for-Microsoft-Vista/
and read this information to microsoft:
Error message when you run Windows Defender: «Error 0x800106ba»
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/931849
and if you need to change startup programs read this information on the other methods of doing it without using defender
using msconfig read this tutorial;
How to use MSCONFIG in Windows Vista
Here's how to use MSCONFIG in Windows Vista to disable some unnecessary programs that load automatically at startup
http://netsquirrel.com/Msconfig/msconfig_vista.html
and also try this program;
This utility, which has a knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs configured to run at system startup or login and that the entries in the order of processing windows. These programs include those in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell, toolbar extensions, helper objects to the browser, Winlogon notifications, auto and many start-up services more

Question #1:
Did you receive a warning message that your Windows Defender does NOT work?
If the answer is Yes, thanks for posting this message, Word by Word. Then go to Question #2.Question #2:
You have an antivirus (AV) programs installed?
Norton
McAfee
AVG
Microsoft Security Essentials
If the answer is Yes, then you do NOT have a problem. The AVs have their own advocates, so they close Windows Defender. Raison d'etre: have 2 defenders at the same time will create conflicts. If you have NOT the above installed AV, then here's a way to re - turn on Windows Defender...
Start button > in the search box, type Services > press the Enter key > scroll to find Windows Defender, click on it >...
topic status , it must be said... Has begun
under Startup Type, it must be said... Automatic
If it does not say that, right click on Windows Defender > click Properties > in the new window, make the necessary changes, as above > click OK when finished. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

Exactly what virus or other malware, have you been hit with? How do you have
I know? They were removed? How?What anti-virus and anti-spyware programs you have installed? Are
they kept up to date?Be aware that Microsoft Security Essentials and safety
software automatically turn off Windows Defender for you, because
they contain a lot of the same functionality.Ken Blake

I get a sticky popup windows for about 2 min and cannot close it, even at that time and windows defender does not open I get error 800106ba, plus late 80070524 error
This error appears usually when WD is disabled (default) after that AVG, McAfee, MSE, Norton or a similar program of the VA has been installed on a Vista operating system.

Windows Defender does not work: encounteredan error: 0x800705b4
I can't activated the windows Defender. I get this message:
Windows Defender does not work: encounteredan error: 0x800705b4. This operation returned because the time limit has expired.
What do you use for your antivirus protection? Windows Defender is not necessary if you use AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, Norton or McAfee. These AV programs have their own antispyware component builtin and allows you to disable Windows Defender by design.

My windows Defender does not work well

In the window of reports on problems and solutions, it says that my windows Defender has stopped working all of the solutions. Thanx
I don't know what you mean by "does not * well *," but if you mean that it doesn't at all, please answer the following question: What antivirus do you use?
Many anti-virus programs (Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Norton, McAfee and others) turn Windows Defender. It's good, not bad; they turn it off becauseDefender reproduced what they do. Having both do the same thing hurts your performance and increases the risk of problems that are contrary to each other.

Windows Defender does not work with Microsoft Security Essentials
I just want to confirm I'm sure I see Windows Defender listed on the site alongside the Microsoft Security Essentials in a list of items to choose from - if we choose security while we can not run the Defender is that correct? Vista runs on this toshiba that has been in place. Windows Defender is not running but essentials runs with full daily verified updates scans and other readers of both records - the concern, it is that be enough security we should do other things regarding the last blackened on computers, we have seen happening with friends and the fake software updates We have seen with the neighbors not accepting real software, they thought were updated - but in the end a fake. They were running microsoft security databases, but didn't yet these things happen - no pleasure with the laptop still being down in a different place/city. Any info would be nice to hear, clear terms, just trying to help people close to home and at a distance from time to time thanks Jen
I'll simplify the answer...
1 Microsoft Security Essentials has his own Defender. Running 2 defenders only create conflicts. MSE will stop Windows Defender.
2. no security program is sufficient for protection. Be careful, to surfing and what to download.
3. you can install "we demand" programs such as Spybot Search Destry and Malwarebytes. They do not run until you 'open '.
I have Avast Home Edition for "real-time" protection, and I have Spybot Search and Destroy more Malwarebytes. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

Original title: Windows Defender
I have Windows Vista and my Windows Defender will activate/doesn't not work. When I try to turn it on, it responds by saying: 'it is not responding' and stops automatically. I tried to re - install & who did not work. Any ideas.
Hi lskdjfoie,What have you tried to reinstall? Windows Defender or other programs?I suggest the following steps and check.Step 1:Usually if you have a third-party security software installed, Windows Defender would not work. I would temporarily disable all security software and check if the problem persists.
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.Step 2:If this does not help, I would say you scan SFC on your computer and check if Windows Defender works fine.Step 3:If none of the steps helps create a new user account and check if the problem persists.Let us knowAziz Nadeem - Microsoft Support[If this post was helpful, please click the button "Vote as helpful" (green triangle). Windows Defender - Application not found (in Windows 7 professional OS)
Hello
I have a computer running on Windows 7 Professional on my place of work. However, Windows Defender does not seem to work properly because it cannot be opened when searched for in the START Menu and the Windows Defender icon is not correct (please refer to the screenshot below):
Probably, I suppose that someone had deleted the Windows Defender software before I used the computer.
I would like an active Windows Defender to protect your computer. If all goes well, it can be fixed or re-install the software on the computer.
Please, can someone help me with the correct solution?
Thanks in advance,
Jenn
By your screenshot, it seems you have installed MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials). The first icon beside the ORB start. If it is enabled, the Defender must be disabled.
MSE is supposed to disable Defender when it is installed. They should not be run at the same time.
There are a few explanations here:

System says Windows defender is not active or installed
my computer needs a certain seriouus attention! She claims to be protected, but then it says windows defender does not work as well as many other services when I click the Activate button it gives me an error message indicating that there is not or not installed or is not found... another custom of services on a local computer... just someone can tell me how to undo all the damage that ive done to this pc? Ive even paid 49.99 toshiba to supposedly restore it to factory settings, but even that did not work... I desperately need some security because my daughter use it for homeschooling... I need the directions accurate, clear, step by step on what to do... Thank you
Thanks for your reply. Could you tell me how to back up files and important documents to lose before you do the restore?
It's pretty easy:- Click Start, click Help, and then search for help on "Backup". Familiarize yourself with the concepts explained in there.
- Buy a 4 or a flash drive 8 GB ("USB key") for about $10.00.
- Connect it to your laptop.
- Open Control Panel / backup and restore.
- Back up your data on the flash drive.
- Take the flash for a friend PC drive.
- Restoring a few files to ensure that you can open them.
- After the factory restore, restore the data from the flash drive.
- Use the flash drive in the future as your regular backup media. Remember that all important files should be backed up - without exception!

my windows Defender does not illuminate when I click on
my windows Defender does not illuminate
What other security programs you have running? Many as MSE, Norton, McAfee, AVG, etc., will stop Windows Defender because they have the same functionality, and having two programs running at the same time and make security the same work can lead to conflicts. This is by design and must be accepted by the user.
