Windows explore search in a text list

To the right,.

I have over 4000 jpg & png files in a single folder. and I have a text file that contains 300 names out of these 4000. I need a tool or a way that read the 300 names of this text file, search this specific folder and then show them to me. so I could copy and before them else where.

If you are looking for those 300 names manually inputing each file name in the search box would take a lot of time.

Please advice.

Hello

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to inform you that there is no option to search for these specific files together rather than searching one by one.

Hope that answers your request and let us know if you need more assistance. We will be happy to help.

  • Windows XP - Windows Explorer search the files hyperlink text

Navigation in the site of MS is rather hard to find where I have to post my question.  Please move it to the correct location. (Thank you)

I have a directory with some 400 documents (Word, PDF, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) I want to search for "a word or a phase in the file" via Windows XP ' windows Explorer.

    Here's the question...

The text I'm looking for is in a hyperlink (i.e. to search for "docushare' in my files, but there is a link that looks like THIS); the research within a file does not see the content of the link.

My goal is to identify all documents in a directory that have a link to Docushare (for example).

  • In the Windows Explorer search produces no results in Windows 7.0.

When I open Windows Explorer in any folder and type the name of a file to search in the right corner it lists nothing, no matter what I put in the words.  In Vista, it would begin listing the files immediately I typed.  Strangely, lookups work if I type in the same search in the start menu.  I tried to turn on or turn off the search.  I also ran the program in troublehooting control menu and he said that there is nothing wrong with my computer.

    It's very frustrating.

    Jonathan

When searching for a folder, it searches only in this folder (and any folders below it).  The start menu search everywhere, all the time.

Try 'Computer' or your C: drive and then research, and it should come with the same results as the start menu.

PS It's Windows 7, but the version number is actually 6.1, not 7.0.  The 7 is just a name (and poorly designed, when it does not match the lol, version number).

  • Windows Explorer search feature does not work on a PDF file

I've upgraded to WINDOWS 7 this month. As in the past I am still investigating several cases filled with PDF files for specific strings in the PDF file. The new feature of windows search is not finding files. I have all the indexed folders and have put the 'Options records' both 'in indexed locations... ". "and"always search file names... ". ». Niether option seems to work. I find that the search for a set of folers containing docx files work so I suspect something in the way the new alogrithm of WIN 7 search interacts with the type of PDF file: maybe something to with the recording of the PDF file to the operating system time?

In this very basic problem any help is appreciated,

    Fitz

I am also unable to search the contents of .pdf with Windows 7 files.  Check indexing according to the instructions of Ronnie above Options I have noted that, while the .pdf file has already been fixed for the indexing of content Description filter column shows "Registerd IFilter not found."  I did a bit of research and it seems that Adobe is including the iFilter in its Adobe Reader, but not for 64 bit systems which is what I am running.  A 64-bit filter is available at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4025, but I have not tried.

  • Can we copy the folder and the name of the data file from Windows Explorer and paste as text in Word or Excel?

I have two records with a similar file; some of them are duplicates, and some may have the same name, but contain different data.

I would like to compare files from both folders by name and size of the file.  In this way, I could say if I duplicate files, or files with the same name with different data.

I would copy and paste this information (as text or values) in Word or Excel.  Any way to do it?  Any other suggestions re: comparing these files?

Just take the b out of my order and you will get info from size.

  • Windows Explorer does not display text seen when scrolling

Hi, it's hard to explain, but my music library on a hard drive high school and is the only folder with music, but, when I go to my music library, and scroll by grabbing the scroll bar, the small white box that appears always says, 'mp3, unspecified' - rather than the name of the folder.

If I go DIRECTLY to this folder, that is to say, this car and to scroll, it works.
I have removed/re-added the folder to the library, and configured to optimize for the music, it still does not work.
    Thoughts?

Back in your library, testing of up-right, choose "arrange by" and selecting a different option.  If the problem persists in other arrangements, I recommend the deletion of the library itself and recreate.  No file will be lost in that.

  • List of copy of the files from Windows Explorer in the form of text in an application...

Windows will always add something, or a menu item to copy a list of files in Windows Explorer in the form of text in an application?  I would like to run a DOS command (dir c: /s > c - example.txt) as I did years ago, but as I'm sure your aware, constantly been availible for years and your virtualization Windows MS-DOS command line is incompatible with my new computer... All solutions would be grately appreciated.

    Thank you
    Dave

    Hi Dave,.

I have good news for you:

There are two ways to do what you want:

The first is the simplest and is already in Windows 7 (and Vista by the way):

    1. highlight one or more files that you want to know the way in Explorer.
    2. press and hold the SHIFT keyand right-click on one of the highlighted files.
    3. when the popup menu appears, click the entry in the path of the copy which appeared as if by magic, because you're now the SHIFT key.

A slightly better method, IMO, but it takes a little extra work is to add an extension to the send menu to allow you to right-click on one or more files and choose send to-> Clipboard (as name).  This somehow me seems more practical, because I'm used to the way in which the rear PowerToys when.  Such an extension, which also adds a nice Panel to help you manage the menu send to, is a neat package small freeware called send to toys, by Gabriele Ponti, which can be downloaded here: http://www.gabrieleponti.com/software/index.html#sendtotoys

A nice feature of the program send to toys, is that you can even have it put quotes around any path to file that contains white space.  Practice indeed!

    I hope this helps!

P.S., A command line similar to BACK tool is still (and always has been) available.  On the start menu, select: Start -> all programs -> Accessories -> command prompt.  Or you can just run: CMD.exe

  • Whenever I try to search in Windows Explorer, the files listed do not have the requested content.

    Hello.

One of my end-users using Windows search in Explorer to search for a particular value (> 8).  Once the search is complete, several files are listed, but when it opens in Word 2010 and looks exactly the same value, it is said that the value is found.  Why the world is happening?  What research watch hidden in files, or only the visible content attributes?
    Thank you.

The content property is not available on the upper level, less than, or other symbols comparative.  You can only search for characters.    And if you try to find the real character > itself, which does not work well.  The only non-alphanumeric characters that are available are ____, /, and -(I have tested the symbols on the keyboard).

Update: I have found since the other characters are available, using a special syntax.  For example:

    content: ~ = "> 8"

Who would find files that contain characters specific > 8 anywhere, as long as they are together in this order.

[Update: apparently special search symbols such as ~ = do not work with the content when property indexed research places, but work during the search in unindexed locations.]

And another thing, simply chokes Windows 7 Search on the search for Word files when these same Word files are open, especially if they are in a folder with a large number of files, if I remember that well.

The files listed in Windows Explorer icons are gray.  Some programs cannot find these files.
For example, the thumbnail of a jpg file is grayed out.  If I open the file with Windows and FAX viewer, the image appears but if I opened with Microsoft Picture Manager image is not displayed and a message saying that no files are in the folder.  Other programs, Eudora, BasicX, also can not find the files.  Microsoft Word and PowerPoint have not problems.  I recently did a system restore to two days ago for override contained in an attachment to email USPS.com false Trojan horse.

    Hello

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps:

Method 2: Try to put your computer in a clean boot state, and check to see if the same problem happens.

By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.

Follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click on start toreduce this top that i, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.

    (b) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (c) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart.

Method 3: Try to re save the file and check if it helps.

    1. Log on as an administrator.
    2. Click Start, type cmd in the search for text box, right-click cmd.exe, click run as administrator, and then click continue.
    3. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 shmedia.dll and then click OK.

Method 4: Try to scan your hard disk from the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.
