'windows install service' unavailable.

I was struck with a kind of virus that has sent e-mail to my hotmail contacts.  I ran some anti-malware programs and seem to have removed the problem, but now when I try to install items such as AVG free, I get an error indicating that the windows service install not working.  In addition, the autmatic windows update fails for the same reason.  I tired the microsoft site for an update of windows instaler service and got 'not OS good' errors or that i did not have permission to install the update, even though I am loged in s administrator.  I use vista 64 but I got tired of all possible downloads on the microsoft page.

I saw that mscofig could be used to restart eirler version of the windows service install so I tried and now at least AVG free install.  I think it was the last part of the correction of virus.  at least I hope so.  Thanks for your time.

  • Windows Vista Service Pack 2 causes the message "Windows install will not be accessible".

I am running Windows Vista with all the updates installed but Service Pack 2. I uninstalled Service Pack 2 because it was causing problems with the windows installation service. I was unable to install microsoft office update because the windows installer could not be accessed, and Adobe Acrobat Reader could not be repaired or updated for the same reason.

With installed Service Pack 2, I traveled all troubleshooting for the windows service install. I have a click with the right button on my computer, manage, service and open the properties of windows install. I have activated the service, but still couldn't install the updates Microsoft office or Adobe Acrobat Reader update/repair. I also tried to configure windows install automatic rather than manual when the computer starts.

I had the problem "Windows install is not be available" for nearly a year. After trying to do a repair Vista boot without result, I uninstalled all updates. The problem disappeared. I decided to install the updates one by one. After you have installed Service Pack 2, the problem with windows install returned. The Service Pack installs completely and then open my computer properties indicates that Vista runs with Service Pack 2 installed.

Uninstall Service Pack 2 and blocking automatic updates will not install it was my only solution to the issue of "Windows install is not be accessible". I fear that it may cause a security flaw in my computer, however.

If someone has encountered this problem, and if so, is there a solution to install Service Pack 2 for my windows service install still works correctly?

    Hi miss.purity,

Welcome to Microsoft answers community forum!

All facilities have their own advantages and disadvantages. We at Microsoft is constantly working to improve, acceleration and provide better services to our users use microsoft products and therefore release of service packs. Service packs are released to solve the problems of the operating system such as the provision of software to hardware compatibility with other products launched on the market (not necessarily Microsoft products), Microsoft publishes fixes for minor problems experienced by users of Microsoft operating system and constantly keep abreast with the latest technology. So I recommend you keep your operating system up to date to benefit from the advantages mentioned above and for the proper functioning of the operating system.

It can cause minor problems during the installation of updates (honestly what OS doesn't?). But its better to deal with minor problems (which can be fixed) after the installation of updates, as the face of the problems otherwise.

So I got advice go you and install the updates sent by Microsoft as it also fixes bugs you mentioned.

If in case you encounter problems installing service pack 2, you can do the following:

    Clean boot:

This article describes how to start your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.
    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.
    5. click on OK.
    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.
    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

If your issue is resolved, follow the how to determine what is causing the problem section in KB article to narrow down the exact source.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796 . In addition, refer to the section on how to restore your computer to a Normal startup mode
